i have just sent a poem to everyone, it is not from one of the seeds though.

I find i can't make myself write good poetry to demand...lol so this is just a contribution to the group writing

I go away for a week on 26th so wont be contributing for a week then. Jane just delete mine until you are able to contribute again, i am sure you will want to be back with us.

Helen, happy with a character for one week, but not sure about continuing with the same character every week. However if it is what everyone else wants no problem, may not be very good for Maggie though?

Jane

Jane Report 20 Mar 2010 16:03

Oi you bossy britches !!!!!!!.Fancy not letting me go lol.Seriously I am not going to be able to contribute anything for now as I am going away next week and things are a bit hectic and all up in the air.I hope you aren't going to beat me into submission at the meet.

Hi everyone, I have just been catching up with this thread that has increased greatly since I looked at it a couple of days ago!

Teresa, I like your idea of the three characters. Strangely enough I was going to suggest something similar: that one week we create and draw an imaginary character and describe him or her, then in subsequent weeks, a scenario is suggested and we each put our characters there and write about that. I thought about perhaps being in a restaurant, in a hospital ER, taking part in a sport, a family get-together, airport,....could be fun!

Yes I have left Stella on the list because I think it is only temporary, she'll be back, she'll miss us too much lol.

Same for Jane, she hasn't been able to contribute much and thought it best to withdraw for now, but I'm not letting her and will speak to her at the Peterborough meet. So for now, I've left her in it. so there ner.

AnninGlos Report 20 Mar 2010 15:28

The more the merrier.

Thanks Teresa for that, I have amended my list.

Stella if you are looking in, I have left you on the list but will remove you each time I send out until you return to us. If in error I send you a piece I apologise in advance, just delete it!

The email has gone out

I dont' want anyone who might not have received it to think they have been thrown out of the group. That's nto the case at all. This is really only us finding out who are active members able to take part either as readers or writers. We dont' want to clutter anyone's inbox with loads of stuff.

Anyone who wishes to keep in the group who hasn't received a revised list this afternoon, just drop me a PM and I'll add you back in.

And if anyone wishes to join us, or come back, you'd be more than welcome. The door is always open, just come on the thread and say so.

whatever you come up with Lol!! But to start maybe 500-1500 words.

Well.... my fellas are going to be watching the match... and the warm up before, and the cross examination afterwards... so I'll be blowed if I am going to do anything that even remotely smacks of *domestic goddess-itis* lol

So I shall sit and play with the writing, see what I come up with.

What is a good length?

Daff, once TW sends out the revised list we can send pieces out tomorrow. If you have anything written send that, or, this week we had three 'seeds' with which to start off or include in a piece or poem they were:
Take any of the following 3 story seeds and use them to start a piece of fiction or non-fiction.

1. The recruiter’s face was inches from hers when she ……

2. March. That was the month when ……

3. Surveying the damage, Ben wished that he’d listened more to his ……

But if you haven't got time to do anything by tomorrow, send it in next Thursday. However if you are on the edge of your seat and itching to go........

*bounces up and down on thread, pencil and paper at the ready*

I haven't looked at the books yet.... well, I went to, and then got side-tracked.... but I shall in a moment... thanks for that, TW.....

I am all poised, ready and waiting.... or have we started yet?

I reckon it is because it is the last one in stock with no more due until June and it is a rip off. I will look in waterstones.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 19 Mar 2010 21:33

What???

I bought mine last year from Amazon, 12.99!

Just looked, you're right.

Have a look in Waterstones, I'm sure it's cheaper than that. It's not that big.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 Mar 2010 21:30

I think writing from life will have to wait a couple of months. Amazon has one new (2008) paperback £24.99 and one to pre-order 2010 June release £8.99

and I can't for the life of my see why the big price difference.

AnninGlos Report 19 Mar 2010 21:24

Now my head hurts more.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 19 Mar 2010 21:20

Well done Ann, thats the sort of thing I mean.

But it illustrates the different reactions to the same situation...

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 19 Mar 2010 21:19

There is something similar in writers forum magazine, but with six columns and six categories...and you throw a dice for each one...then put them together to make a story.

AnninGlos Report 19 Mar 2010 21:18

the farmer in the field, the girl sitting under a tree, the guy out hiking with a backpack.

Farmer
Hmm, I will just keep an eye on the guy, don't like the look of him and I bet he will be trying to get talking to my lass over there. Hope he knows there is a bull in the next field. I hope he shut that gate. I should have brought the dog.

Hiker
She look nice, looks a bit shy, I wont try and chat her up though as I don't have time, I need to get back before dark Don't like the look of the old bloke though, I presume he is the farmer. where is his dog, they always have a yappy dog with them that doesn't like walkers. Better make sure I shut the gate with him watching.

Girl
Hmm, he is nice looking, wonder if he will come and talk to me if I smile at him. better not, our dad doesn't like me talking to strange lads. Hope he isn't going to cross the next field with the bull in it. Maybe I had better warn him

Thanks for that about the books TW.

AnninGlos Report 19 Mar 2010 21:11

I've only just returned from soap land and already my head hurts!!!! I was writing all afternoon so I will look at this tomorrow.

Good exercise in my book too. 4 columns headed

1st character,,, 2nd character,,, the emotion,,,, the setting
Police officer nurse jealousy pub
Alien accountant envy London eye
gardener doctor lust slough
schoolboy gangster revenge hospital

For a quick exercise you 'mash them up' take one from each column and produce a story is say five minutes.
