Hello everyone-it's nice to read a thread which has positive,interesting things on it,and no nastiness.I don't come on the boards much,but read them with interest.I've spoken to some of you before-Just Jean,Liz,and maybe Sparkling Ann.It's nice to have Christmas over and done with,and have a few days off work to relax.

My name is Margot,I turned 60 this year,but believe that you're only as old as you feel- I certainly don't feel 60!! I live in Melbourne,Victoria,Australia,
and tend to be a thread-killer,hope I don't kill this one!

My OH has had his prostate out 4 weeks ago and is recovering well from that.We are enjoying the antics of our 2 little Pomeranians-we have just had them clipped,and they look so funny! The lady who clipped them left a fur collar around their neck,so you have this contrast between the unclipped part around their neck,and the much shorter fur on their body.It looks quite comical.All their long,Winter coat has been removed,and the new coat growing is nice and soft.They are lovely,loyal dogs,who love to snuggle up on my lap,and always give unconditional love.They are just adorable,and I don't know what I would do without them.

Our weather has been fine and sunny for the last few days,in the early 20's C I think,not like most of the weather that has been discussed here.


We had a lovely Christmas,and I hope that everyone reading this also
enjoyed theirs,as well.I would like to wish all GR members a happy,healthy,prosperous New Year,and hope that we can all knock down some of our brick walls,especially our Irish ones!

Glad your husband is recovering well from his op and hope he will continue to do well, with contentment in your little dogs and the nice weather he has no excuse eh? i bet the dogs were a comfort to you when he was in hospital too.

Enjoy your time off work and relaxing, isn't it a shame the time goes so fast. I am looking forward to spring, I hate these dark days and the nasty weather altho the snow and ice has gone for the mo, from Norwich. It's my 'difficult' time of year now so will be better after the middle of Februay and especially when I see the spring flowers coming through.

Hello, Margot good to hear from you again, my oh had the op some time ago and all is well too... we had a lovely quite Christmas with D making a great meal we should have gone out for a meal on Christmas Eve ,but we were snowed in and its been over a week since we have been out, seems odd as we live on a major road, it is the side streets that was the problem we have to use the back of the house as our front door,as we have yellow lines at the front , the back was very deep in snow and then ice, but its raining now so hopefully the last of it will soon go, I hope this is all we are getting !!! I'm back, fell asleep yesterday watching tv.

I had Christmas Day by myself (by choice) was going to have an Irish Dinner, but when it came to it went off the idea, what I really fancied was egg and chips! So went ahead and had them (2 eggs). For breakfast I had toast and Stilton Cheese. The pleasure of living alone is that you can do what you want, when you want.
Had the Irish Dinner yesterday, but fell asleep afterwards, just too much food I guess.

Last Sunday I was walking in Mortimer Forest with my son and two younger grandsons. Views were spectacular, will have to try it again sometime.

Ann I think that the Deleted Post was a gremlin, not a person, just a silly fault in the system.
Please don't let it worry you.

Hello all, back from Milton Keynes, journey up was not too bad, freezing fog across the Cotswolds, otherwise OK. Journey home was OK too although very busy on the M40 and around Oxford.

had a good christmas but glad to be home, son's house is sooo chaotic Lol!! And I am fed up with watching football on TV.

Thank you to all who have kept this thread going and welcome to those I have not spoken to, I can remember Claire, Marilyn and Antipodes and Margot, although I think we have spoken before. and hallo Bridget, good to see you too.

I remember going to the Lake District for Easter in 1971. It was warm and sunny for the time of year, but there was still snow at the top of the higher hills. Beautiful.

Had a lovely present as you know, my Rose picture,(thanks again) it's stood all the time across the room from me so I can see it, and next to it some roses from my son, his card which had roses on as well and a pink hyacinth in one of those glass jars. It's starting to flower so room should smell lovely later on. I got the hyacinth in it's jar from a fete a few weeks ago, like a dope I stood it in my bag to bring home, knowing there was water in it, don't know why but the woman who made them to sell had filled them to the brim and I didn't notice so everything in my bag got soaked, credit cards, paperwork, everything, I did swear! And it said blue on the label, and she told me it was blue, it was the last one but it's definitely pink! I don't mind what colour they are, I love them. It will go in one of the tubs outside with all the others after it's flowered.

I got a book written by Norfolk people about Norwich and a cd to go with it which will be a laugh with the accent lol and also the soldiers cd, and the Stavros Flatley How to be a little bit Greek book from my son, as well as the roses, and K got me a big box of Thorntons chocs, a Victorian style photo album, for my old family photos that I am getting more and more of from my cousin, as well as money towards some boots (am hoping the ones I like are reduced so will go shopping soon) as well as a box of notelet cards that I had shown him in a shop (as I had the album lol) He also got me Susan Boyle's cd and the Will Young hits cd, the latter was without me hinting!!! He got me one of those fleecy blankets with the sleeves in from our local shop, I had hinted about that so he got it on behalf of his son, who has to pay him when he gets back from Angola. Only started getting gifts from him the last three Christmases. O.h's Dad and stepmum sent me four flowery shower creme tubes (from M & S) there's rose, lavender, iris and magnolia so it was a very flowery Christmas - lovely!

I am quite glad it's all over tho, just have to write some Happy New Year notelets to those I missed doing cards for, if I can find the address list!

Liz, you did well for presents didn't you and your OH came up trumps with some good pressies. I love hyacinths too. We bought some late ones in a sale so theyw ill flower in the spring all being well, they are in bowls in the conservatory. Yes thanks, the journey was not too bad, freezing fog on the way there and heavy traffic on the way back. Would not have liked to have had to go down any side roads in Buckingham on Christmas Eve, they were sheets of ice by the look of it, but main roads were fine. And, yes, glad to be home and have N Year to look forward to. Daughter and her husband are coming to us, will be strange with no Grandchildren but they all have their own things planned.

My Grandson went back to Cheshire yesterday afternoon as he is back at work today and my daughter is going to stay with a friend till the new year, my son isn't feeling to good he has a awful cough so staying away from him.

Hello all, I have just been reading this thread and there are so many new people, lovely, and welcome to you all.
I have been here a few years now, my name is Carole but go under Caz, I am 65 and housebound so these boards keep me going. I live with my hubby in sheltered housing and have a Cockatiel for company. I have made a lot of good friends on here which is something I never expected when I first plucked up the courage to post.

I used to sit and read the threads wishing I could join in but not knowing how I would be accepted, no need to worry though, they are a lovely bunch of people.
The boards have changed somewhat since I joined, I remember one thread that was all jokes, I used to sit and read till I was crying with laughter, it was such a good thread. We should have another one llike that, but I am no good with jokes so won't start one lol.

Now I have seen this I will pop in again, nice to meet our new ones and hello to my old mates.

Good morning to you all. The sun is shining and the frost is making everyithing look very pretty.

This is my first chance to get back on here since my last post and it has taken me a little while to read all the postings since. So lovely to see new people and lots of old friends joining in again.

Jude, good to see you - over the years we have made several attempts to be at the same meetings but so far it hasn't happened. Methinks I will have to make a trip to Wales in 2010!!! I agree that age is just a number - but lately I have begun to realise how high my number is. Just can't keep up the pace anymore - so frustrating.

Will be going to my daughter in Solihull for New Years Eve - I do hope the M40 is not too bad then but it is always pretty busy. The worst part of our journey will be the M25 - always bad, back in August when I last drove up there it took almost as long on that stretch as it did for the rest of the journey - it said "delay 25 minutes" but was more than 45 minutes.
4 sons and one d-i-law will be going - and hopefully my eldest daughter as well. Those of you who know me will perhaps remember that she has had a really bad 5 years. There is good news - in January she has her 5 year check which looks like being positive and her mental health is now good as she is back on her medication. My very best Christmas present was the big hug I got from her on Christmas day - after 4 years of her not even speaking to me. We had a lovely two days with her and my g.daughter (who is now 19) as they visited on both days.

My son-in-law gave me his old laptop which my eldest son Chris has been fiddling with so that it should now work well - he is a bit of a perfectionist and is still not satisfied that he has ironed out all the glitches but I think I can now wrest it from him and start to use it - so that when he is monopolising this computer I can still keep in touch .

Hopefully will be back before then but just in case may I wish you all

Hello Caz, lovely to see you on here. It is so nice to have a few threads now where we can 'call in' and chat when we feel like it. Must try to keep them going. kathleen, that will be good if you can have your own PC so that son doesn't monopolise it! So pleased you got a big hug from your daughter, I am sure it will have been worth waiting for.

Caz, what a great Christmas presant. I hope that your daughter's good health continues. Must be good for her daughter too.
I know that mental health issues can be really debilitating and so difficult to explain to thoses "not in the know".

Have a good time in Solihull, you have missed The German Christmas Market in Birmingham. But lots of other things to see (besides family).

Has anyone visited Birmingham Beach in the summer? Free deckchairs but bring your own bucket and spade.

Keith, when did you find out the correct day for going to the Lakes? I hope that you hadn't already put your suitcase in the car!

Ann pleased that you had a good time in M.K. and your return journey wasn't too bad.

One of my grandsons had his sixth birthday while I was there before Christmas.
He has now told everyone "I am nearly seven" While his younger brother insists - "I'm not four, I'm five next birthday"

They seem to be in such a hurry to grow up.

I loved being six, Father Christmas used to call. It really was a time of innocence.

Liz, yes, I did just what I wanted to , without upseting anyone. Will look forward to having sibs and bro-in-law here on Wednesday. Somehow there just isn't the stress that goes with trying to get all the food (and everything else) perfect on Christmas day.

Your Hyacinth may not be blue, but I bet the air was when you saw the pool in your bag.

The Stavros Flatley book sounds interesting. Let us know about it when you have had time to read it.

Hi all......made it to my sons on Christmas Day and was joined by the rest of my family. Still lots of snow around, and was very icy, as well as patchy fog,so took it steady. Motorway very quiet thank goodness.It is nice to get back to normal for a couple of days until Friday, New Years day anyway..lol
Now going to watch The Tudors from episode one...yeah!. Present from my grandaughter...and this time I am going to try to keep up with who is who...lol

Good on you with starting this thread.. and I see Catie on here as well - tho she hasn't been for the last few days. She could divulge all about her trip to Germany.
I will have to go back and read the pages - Liz certainly packs a lot of lines on a page - maybe will have to recommend this thread to the reading group - either that or WW's diary.
