Teresa - just wondering how this has gone for you. I have terrible problems with gagging reflex and so my top denture is very small compared to normal ones. I've spent a small fortune having hypnotherapy at Catterick Garrison Army Base following referral from my dentist.
Anyway, several years on, my denture does not fit properly and so I'm having to have a new one made which will be larger than the one I have now. At present it takes me half an hour or so each morning to get over the gag reflex and fit the denture in. Might as well have shares on Fix**ent because I go through so much of the stuff.
I'm telling myself that I'm paying £198 for this new denture so it will work. Get it next Friday! Was there yesterday for a moulding and it was like having evostik in my mouth - it tasted disgusting! My dentist commented that it was like a military exercise getting even the moulds made and so I reminded him that he'd sent me to Catterick Army Base.
Tell me that you're getting on ok - please? Any tips on how to get over this gagging reflex? I can't even hold pegs in my mouth when hanging out the washing

I'm doing fine. I do have problems withthe gag reflex and like you can't even hold pegs in my mouth. BUT....there are days when I still gag once or twice, and days when they feel so comfortable I don't gag at all.

I have noticed that, when I'm concentrating on something, I push my tongue to the top and suck hard, like sucking a toffee....and that will set me off in the evenings, so I'm trying hard not to do it. I'm hoping that will settle when I get the bottom set

But other than that they are fine. Unlike the first few days when I gagged every time I tried to speak! If my mouth gets dry, that's when I gag, so try having some water nearby, take a sip, it helps.

I want to go back and get a metal place when I can afford it, less bulky than the plastic one...at the moment, I still want to take them out to eat...as if it ws a boiled sweet. LOL, then I remember its me teef!

But, I am eating better, and chewing properly which means less stomach upsets at night.

THAT is the reason why I am dentist phobic ...I gag.

Soon as they stick anything in my mouth...even when it's the mirror thingy..the stick with the rounded mirror at the end where they're looking more closely at my teeth...I'm heaving like crazy.

Have an appointment booked for 28th april and the thought of it is making me turn cold.

*shudders*

Last time I went I vommed everywhere lol

NOT in a hurry to repeat the pleasure....not when I'm not in any pain anyhow.

TW you are awesome ...NO WAY could I have done what you have.

Respect to you xx

Muffy, put the tip of your tongue as far back on the roof of your mouth as you can

That's what my dentist told me to do when I had the impression done...and it worked, I didn't gag once

More so, tell the dentist....he can help you with that.

If we want to take impressions or xrays on someone that gags, we spray the numbing liquid on the back of their mouth. It seems to work for most people, but not all.

Fingers-crossed, I haven't had anyone be sick in the surgery.........probably jinxed myself now and get one tomorrow!!

There's spray Joanne?

Honestly?

Now if I knew I could get through it without gagging I would've gone years ago !!!!

Having been sick all over myself the last time I've always been reluctant to go again without being in extreme pain.
