Sorry for late reply we had to join in a virtual meeting earlier and it turned out to be a complete waste of time. All it involved was going over information that we already knew and have agreed with :-|

ZZzzz Report 30 Jan 2023 22:43

I was lucky in that my Dad died in 2011 when I was 58 and in his sleep.

Oh, my youngest sister had the sun shining out of her errs too, could do no wrong in my Mums eyes but I was my Dads favourite and was his shadow in my growing up years.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 30 Jan 2023 22:14

I don't think so as I had an older sister and the sun shone out of her rrrs

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 30 Jan 2023 22:04

That is a good ending then thank goodness, I wonder how your so called Mum dealt with it, that might have been the cause of her bitterness to you, just guessing though.

LaGooner Report 30 Jan 2023 21:29

He was part of a very close family thank goodness who supported him and his remaining daughter(my so called Mum). He remarried a couple of years later and had quite a large family

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 30 Jan 2023 21:23

Oh my goodness that is a lot to have to deal with and on his own too.
How on earth did he cope with it all?

My Grandad was badly gassed at the 2nd battle of Ypres and got sent back here just before the whole of Ypres was destroyed. When he got back his daughter aged 7 died and just over a year later his wife died of the Spanish Flu. His brother was also missing and later was listed dead in France.

ZZzzz Report 30 Jan 2023 21:02

My Dad had said that Granddad had shrapnel in his but not which part and that at some point in Dads life he managed to squeeze it out when it became infected and the record said he was a casualty so that's good enough for me :-D.

LaGooner Report 30 Jan 2023 20:47

We all wish that I am sure. I wish I had known what Grandad went through as I always thought he was just a miserable old git. My cousin had information of where he served and what he went through in the army and also personal tragedy bless him.
