RMS. Why are you off the norty step?? Goes and checks the Hartnell's thread. Just as I thought, that poor thread is languishing somewhere in the bowels of page whatever. Go take a look, answer the questions, and then I might let you go play in the snow.

Good morning LLPC. Welcome to Nut Lodge. I hope you are wearing the correct colours of red, blue and yellow.

You may however stick your tongue in your cheek and say, well done to LGs team.

By the way I think we need another thread. For questions relating to family history. We chat so quickly on here the questions are often missed as the pages fly by.

Back to work. My desk is now covered in papers. Which seems a bit stupid as it is only Monday morning.

Dear AuntySherlock

Hello or Good morning

Hope you are well.

Cannot see the full moon here in UK.
East End of the capital.

The weather has been bad..........cloud cover and more rain.

Do you get a mini-winter?

The UK one seems to have gone on for years!

Take care
Best wishes
xx

Morning all. Just had an email from Crystal Tips who sends her love. She has a lot of things going on at the moment but hopefully will be back to see us soon.

Here is a poser for you Aunty. Can you see if you can find the marriage between Elizabeth Cashman born 1879 Aghada Cork Ireland and Charles Powney born 1879 Midsomer Norton Somerset,England. The marriage according to 1911 was 1904 give or take a year. As he is listed as a Royal Marine (can't be found on 1901) he could have married abroad.

Yes we could do with a seperate thread for this wonder what we could name it ????

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 09:56

LG You have illustrated my point exactly. While we chat we often throw in a query - like my one about the focus person in a GR tree. To which, I might add, I'm still waiting for an answer.

We need a thread for short questions. Not a thread which will continue on following one family search. Not much goss. You would still need some because a discussion on how stupid one or more of the answers was might be necessary.

A name?? Needs Nut Lodge in the title. Something to do with quick replies, from a genie or wizard. Fast tracks. Ask the Nutters.

Think about it. Off to take a look at your question.

LaGooner Report 1 Mar 2010 09:59

Love ' Ask the Nutters' very appropriate. Are you going to get it up and running???? LOL

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 1 Mar 2010 10:11

Just googled Charles and turned up interesting info about him.

LaGooner Report 1 Mar 2010 10:43

We're famous LOL. Entry on Google. Yay.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 10:58

Oh heavens you are on google. Now we will have to bow to you.

Had a good look. I can tell you where the marriage is not, and that is most places.

Lots of Powney's in India.

Not one called Charles marrying an Elizabeth Cashman. Found a widow Elizabeth Powney marrying another bloke.

Going to read all the info on google.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 11:07

Just read your thread. Those are the results I am picking up except I can not find Elizabeth Cashman connected to Charles Powney. Need to go look again.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 11:16

LG Do you have his regiment number by any chance. There are two Charles Powney names in the National Archives WW1 list but neither is listed as a Royal Marine.

Medal card of Powney, Charles T
Corps: Essex Regiment
Regiment No: 350623
Rank: Private...
1914-1920 WO 372/16

Medal card of Powney, Charles E
Corps: Royal Engineers
Regiment No: 299492
Rank: Sapper
1914-1920 WO 372/16

And this is not going to help find his marriage. I reckon we need to look at any marriages with Charles Powney in the equation.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 11:19

And have you done a 1901 census check for Elizabeth Cashman.

There is one born in Ireland with Mary for a mother. And that is not much good because you have no idea if it is her.

And all of this should be on your thread so it adds to the info you have.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 11:24

Ask the Nutters sounds like exactly what it will be like.

Where are we going to bury it. And what ground rules do we need, apart from asking questions about family history.

Oh what a novel idea. By the way we need to be careful we don't split research between a home thread and the Nutters thread.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 1 Mar 2010 11:36

Found a marriage for Elizabeth Cashman in 1906 in Tynemouth northumberland. Not a Charles powney in sight.
