We all make mistakes, and we all have typos that are typical to our style. I cannot type JUST, without thinking about it, or just going back to correct it from jsut. That's why I would never get away with having a second account, not that I'd want one anyway. I've got sloppy typing on here, and I don't always spellcheck. I spend most of my time editing out the errors after posting LOL.

Hayley's spelling mistakes, which really are down to dyslexia and are definitely NOT a measure of her intelligence, are rather endearing. I remember her 'nevres hangin' out' and how often has she been turmatised?

Even a certain amount of text, as much as I hate it, is tolerable, and I'm used to stray.

I have a relative on here who can't spell well, she spells as she speaks, and her being a cockney, I love it. It' s part of her. Again, endearing.

What gets my goat, is the deliberate 'error's when I know a person can write and spell properly. That' sj ust pure laziness and bloody-mindedness, and really doesn't reflect well on the person at all. Then for that person to follow that up with a mindlessly stupid excuse, is ridiculous.

Wmsl.... nooooo, not you, Rose... but there have been a couple on here... and quite a few on that other site, lol.... although it seems to have mellowed a little recently!!

I know I make mistakes.... but hecky thump.... life really is too short to be worrying about the odd mistake or three.... I know what you mean about grammar and spelling when it is deliberately executed badly on thread after thread (not the little colloquialisms we all use occasionally) , though. (Not talking about textspeak or dyslexia, or people who genuinely can't spell either!) And then suddenly... there it is, virtually perfect grammar and spelling, proving that they are able to do it, and are deliberately *dumbing down*.

Now that is taking the mickey... I don't get cross, but I do feel very sorry for the people who feel this is either amusing, or necessary!

Runs quickly to check my grammar or should that be "quickly runs....." or "runs to quickly check....." ?!

Daff I have a friend called Sheila and no matter which way I put the i and e , it always looks wrong :)

I used to be very good at spelling, but have always had a couple of blind spots, lol... receipt being one, it always looks wrong!!

Since the chemo, I have to struggle a bit more with remembering... it is things like i's and e's, lol... it is improving, but I had some neurological damage from one of the chemos so they don't know how much will come back over time.

What really gets on my nerves is when someone has a whinge about the grammar and spelling of another poster... and makes mistakes him or herself... now that is appallingly rude and ill-mannered, and also very pompous and.... erm, there is another word and I can't think of it just now!! lol

Budgie I hope I would never "ridicule" anyone over their spelling! A poor speller can have very legitimate reasons for being so, lack of education, dyslexia, poor eyesight and so on.

Also 'sloppy language' contributes, eg the use of "should of" which should be "should have " ..."should've"/should of"

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if the words are spelled or pronounced correctly as long as they are understood...but it still irritates me when people who can , don't! lol.

Hayley I have read that about people who have dyslexia who use coloured spectacles to help them. (i.e. glasses with coloured lenses)

Hayley yours is 99.9 and half % is in plain english and readable.that makes the difference,.......I'd rather see an odd word missed out or a word mispelt and know what it suposed to be.
and youre still learning at 29.:}}}}}

I make lots of spelling mistakes on words I've not used to a long time,,,and have to sit and juggle it about till it looks right .,its old age,,,:}}

Ahhhh but Hayley, you have a way of expressing yourself so your spelling errors don't really matter:-)

I can spot a spelling mistake a mile away, it jumps out at me, but I am getting sloppier since I started using my computer.

Kate believe it or not it could be the text, I find reading black on white difficult but coloured paper is easily I used to have a rose coloured ruler but havent used it for about 2 years I was shocked to see with this magic ruler that words have gaps when they didnt before, another of my traits is missing words from the sentenace ..normally its small words or getting the correct letters in the wrong order..

As Ann says, Hayley I definitely exclude dyslexia, and admire anyone who has to cope with that and type on a chat board !

If I am reading something (anything) I immediately pick up on spelling mistakes, I proof read a newsletter for that purpose. It is when I am writing/typing that I have trouble which is strange. If I recognise a spelling error, why do I also make them?

Rambling

Rambling Report 29 Nov 2009 16:15

lol Hayley mirror writing i can cope with strangely enough, but if it is upside down I just switch off totally :)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 Nov 2009 16:13

I think Rose said she excluded dyslexia Hayley, you can't help that and on here you must work hard because mostly your spelling is fine.

I can't ever seem to spell "incovenience" correctly but I seem to be tuned in to notice spelling mistakes and I don't know why. I did start reading at a very early age, though, so maybe that's it!

I remember at uni, when I was preparing my degree show work, I often printed final things out then realised I'd made a spelling mistake (why do these things only ever show up when you've printed it, I wonder?) so I would then go back and reprint it because it would have annoyed me. I did notice a lot of spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes on other people's work but I never knew whether to tell them or not - I am sure when employers look round degree shows they notice small details like spelling.

I sometimes read my sister's postings on Facebook and I just can't decipher them because it's in text speak, which I have never been able to get into!

Rambling Report 29 Nov 2009 16:13

I think there is a difference between chatting 'in a hurry' where you really don't have time ( or inclination) to check every word , I think of that on here, msn etc as like real 'speech' and you don't 'correct' that it is typical to you as it were.

Poor spellers who are always like that, lol, annoy me much less than those who are perfectly able to but can't be bothered ;) ... I don't like text speak much either as it takes me longer to write and read lol.

Hayley, you are right about the English language being difficult, all the 'rules' like "i before e except after C" have exemptions ...I still have to type 'friends' carefuly because it is a blind spot with me , and 'weird' etc. :))

A paper dictionary is no use to me (unless it has pictures lol ) the on the net is good as mostly it can guess at what I am trying to spell, as I try to spell by the sounds of the word so s and c is not good or i and e but mostly good with ph and f ...

but practice does make perfect I have imporved over the years, I freely admit to be being dylexic more so since I learnt to spell it and yes over the years have been the butt of many a joke even with my own family funnily enough when our children began to show signs the laughing stopped and they became more interested, but at least mine is spelling and reading not mirror writing now that would be a remmub..lol
