Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 9 Dec 2009 21:37

Mummo, it's all very upsetting for you to see things go wrong - have you spoken to your doctor about all these errors, if he contacted the hospital maybe they would get things right and not be so slipshod.
I hope the infection can be cleared up soon so your poor hubby can start back on the road to recovery without these setbacks. Glad you have someone at home to speak to and your daughter will be back soon, won't she?

You will have to copy this thread and read it out to Eddie when he is home and well again, only he won't have to laugh too much or he will hurt his back again.

take care of yourself - hope things are better tomorrow

Hi, well spoke to the person in charge of the ward today, and we got things sorted, the nurse that was rude to me yesterday was kept right away from us and they showed me all Ed's xrays and explained what was happening and what was going to happen ,so all sorted thank God.
They were moving Ed ito another ward today but they weren't ready for him so its been musical beds all afternoon and now Ed has a water infection due to having a catherter fitted and its making him hallucinate again, they said if it continues they will have to sedate him because they even caught him standing by his bed this morning, for Gods sake he was right opposite the nurses station , so they put his brace on him and put him back in bed , l know there short staffed but l couldn't believe he got right out of bed. I left his mobile phone and he has just rang me to tell me he is up a ladder , when l told him he was in bed he wouldn't have it and swore to me that he was up a ladder outside of the hospital where there doing some building work, then he cut off, so l rang the ward just to check that he wasn't telling me the truth and there was no answer then Ed phone back still insisting he was up this ladder so l asked if a nurse was near him and l heard him call someone and they said the would be right over then he put the phone down so at least l know he is in the ward.
Just before l left the catherta that Ed has up his backside leaked all in the bed God it did smell but then we had to wait a good half hour till they came to change it so as it was 7.30pm l said l would shoot off then as l had been there since 2.00pm and just couldn't take anymore...............will it ever end.
So that l'm ranting on here again but l am here on my own till my son gets in from work and that won't be till 10.30pm, so sorry friends you got in in the ear, lol. xxxx

PS l promise l will give you some good news soon ( fingers crossed)

So sorry to hear of this latest set back, I would complain to someone senior, I know nurses are over worked but that kind of attitude is just unacceptable.

Hi Mummo, After the positive progess Eddie has been making. I'm so sorry to read what an awful day Eddie & yourself have today.

But good for you for sticking by your guns (I wonder how many people often just accept what the nurse had said).

I do hope these problems are resolved tomorrow & the day will be so much better for you both.

Oh Mummo what a horrible day you've had,and you sounded so positive yesterday.

Like others have said you must make your feelings known to who ever is in charge on ward tomorrow,as leaving floor etc. in such a way is against basic hygiene hospital rules, no matter how short-staffed they are,it is so important.

Hope things are better for you both tomorrow, thinking of you, stay strong

Grabagran Report 8 Dec 2009 22:02

I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED TO READ YOUR UPDATE.
I WOULD'VE ASKED TO SEE THE MOST SENIOR MEMBER OF STAFF IN THE HOSPITAL NEVER MIND THE WARD.
YOU SHOULD TRY TO SPEAK TO EDDIE'S CONSULTANT, AND TELL HIM OF YOUR UTTER DISGUST AT THE WAY THE STAFF ARE TREATING HIM, AND THE WAY THEY SPOKE TO YOU.
EVERY HOSPITAL HAS A COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE, AND YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS, TO ENSURE THIS KIND OF THING IS NOT ALLOWED TO CONTINUE.
WE ALL KNOW THAT NURSING STAFF ARE UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE, BUT THAT DOESN'T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO TREAT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING LIKE THAT.
AFTER ALL THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN A CARING PROFESSION.
HOPE YOU GET A BETTER RECEPTION TOMORROW MUMMO.

AnninGlos Report 8 Dec 2009 20:57

Mummo, how frustrating for you and Eddie after the good care he has had from ICU. You have had a lot of good advice here, do try and have words with his doctor, ask about the angle of the bed for eating, don't let them intimidate you and if the bag leaks they should properly clean the floor to avoid infection. You could also try to speak to whatever they call the person who replaced matron these days. And, I agree, a camera is an excellent idea. I realise that the nurses are probably overworked but they should not be dismissive of what you are telling them when you have spent all the time with Eddie and know what his treatment involved.
