I am so glad that he is on the specialist ward and that they seem to be on the ball. Hopefully you can both settle into a routine now so he can get the care he needs and you can get the rest you need.

Hi all, well we had a good day today, Eddie has finally been placed in the spinal ward and feels a lot happier, the nurses are really pleasant and the whole ward seems a calmer place.
He wasn't confused today but when he's tea came and they lifted the bed so his head was a bit higher so l could feed him l did notice he started to see a couple of things yet when l lowered him again he seemed to be ok again, and when l was talking to the young lad in the next bed he was saying he gets like that when his head is highered so no way am l going to let that happen again when l'm feeding him, lol.
I really want to say a big thankyou for your support yesterday, once again you all came out on top.xxxxx

Hello Mummo ......I've just read back over your past couple of days ( I have been cut off the Internet since Tuesday am......grrr ) .

Anyway , I'm pleased to know that Ed is on a ward and out of ICU......your experiences of being on the ward however are not good : (
Obviously the ICU can watch a person 24/7 but on the ward it is not so easy to keep an eye on someone . The fact that poor Ed is still suffering hallucinations must be a great worry to you as there is no knowing what he might be thinking of doing .
I remember when I was first put on the ward after my big accident I un-plummed myself from drips and things and was trying to get up ( I was convinced that something from Dr Who had got me and was trying to escape ! )
I'm sorry that they have said he won't be home for Christmas but hopefully you will have better news before much longer .
Chin up my love , and keep trying to think that each day brings him closer to getting healed . xxx

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Dec 2009 12:05

I have been away for a couple of days and am saddened but not surprised to hear your news.
On one particular ward, my mum had some awful treatment before she was moved to a lovely ward. I should have demanded to see the ward manager immediately, but I didn't for a while. Once I did, things were sorted out.

If Eddie is moved to the new ward, ask to see the ward sister as soon as he moves. Don't settle for seeing the nurse in charge of him. These change every couple of days as the shifts rotate and the new one has no idea of what has been going on. Make sure you tell her the whole catalogue of errors in the previous ward, so they won't be repeated again. Tell her that you were on the point of having to make a formal complaint about his treatment. That will make her ears prick up and hopefully she will take notice of things. If things do go wrong, then ask to make a complaint. We are far too reticent in this country and put up with things which we shouldn't.

That may sound harsh,as most nurses are very caring people, but I had two months of daily visits before my mum died (at a ripe old age I hasten to add) and I saw some really shocking treatment.

Equally once she did get on a nice ward, she was lovingly cared for,so if you need to, fight for his rights and dignity.

Glad things got sorted at the hospital Mummo, now hope Eddie will be settled and soon over the water infection.

You rant away, ranting can be good if it makes you feel better and releases frustration.

Always thinking of you both

Mummo, good that you managed to speak to somebody and get things sorted. I am sure that being understaffed is a problem for them and also if more than one patient is on the same drugs it must be very confusing for all if they all hallucinate, nurses must begin to wonder what is real. I do hope that, now he has the brace fitted he will start to improve. I know when our friend was on morphine his hallucinations were so bad, so frightening that they took him off an put him on another drug. He was seeing terrifying monsters climbing the walls and lashing out at the nurses etc. Then, even though they put on his notes that he was allergic to morphine, the next shift of nurses gave him another lot. (L hospital Stevenage)

((((hugs)))) and hopes for an improvement tomorrow. and don't worry about ranting on here, it is what we are here for.
