Janey
Are you a member of the BNF?

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Nov 2009 18:32

David: "Thanks for the history lesson, but you refute that Red Indians scalped settlers? Well, well. How's that for denial!"

You haven't stopped beating your wife? Well, well. How's that for rotten?

When I posted a link and quoted this:

"the young men who have joined the Mohawks in a scalping expedition against the French and Indians"

then I think only the wilfully blind or otherwise dishonest would state that I refute that Aboriginal people scalped colonists. (I can't, even in paraphrasing you, bring myself to use the unbelievably offensive term "Red Indians". What on earth is wrong with you?)

The European colonizers -- the European SOLDIERS -- obviously approved of the practice. They adopted it and used it enthusiastically.

Made a break from cutting people's hands off, or hanging them for petty theft, I guess.

The Europeans were hostile invaders. Hey, they still are, aren't they?

Why on earth would you cite the actions of the peoples whose homelands were invaded and occupied as examples of something the military should be used to combat, and the actions of European militaries against those peoples as anything I might approve of?

History is history. I am no more responsible for the actions of the European militaries in North America in the 18th century than you are. And for either of us to mutter on an internet discussion board about what might have happened if the Europeans had not been the savages they were in the 18th century is about as pointless as arguing over what might have happened had Picard not defeated the Borg in First Contact.

Is this a pop quiz, or just a trick to get me to google so I can be derided for bothering to find out about things I don't know about?

The BNF? What might that be?

The Bibliothèque nationale de France?

Sorry.

Your true nature is now showing through... you're just a pathetic man-hater, aren't you? Why else all the viscious bile in your posts here. I think that you really need help...

Or they could be referring to the Botswana National Front, or British Nuclear Fuels!

Green pen was insinuating that you have verbal diarrhoea (sp)

I just love a well formulated reply.

No doubt the next person to post will be telling Janey her Mum's got nits!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 15 Nov 2009 19:05

I considered both those options after. ;) Thought the Botswana one most likely!

Remember, my mum may have nits, but she's got cancer. And my sister has cancer. (Well, hopefully they got all of hers, but my mum's lymphoma can't really be got, and she probably has about 5 years.) And me, I've got the botched eye surgery. I think everyone is supposed to be nice to me.

I do just want to add, because there was some controversy over the question of whether someone had wished for me to be banned.

The subject of this thread is the deletion of my previous thread. That thread was gone. Dead parrot.

So when Julie*Ann said, early on the first page:

"hopefully janeys been deleeted"

... well, I just don't see much ambiguity.

I found the various names that I've been called, false accusations that have been levelled against me, armchair diagnoses of my physical and mental state, etc. etc., all so amusing that I've kept lovely screenshots of them! In their original state, of course; no amendments or embellishments allowed now.

In the end it really doesnt matter what anyones opinions are of our soldiers or soldiers from another country,,,,,it doesnt stop anyone feeling proud of them for the courage they have shown in signing up within the last 10/15years with full knowledge they could be deployed to a middle east war zone.

Every country needs its military defences and that also comes as a human, no country anywhere in the world cannot have its military without men and women.

Julie Ann.
The Unknown Soldier is in Westminster Abbey,,he was taken from a field in France left unidentified and laid to rest in the entrance to the Abbey as a mark of respect and rememberance to the fallen of war of 1914-1918.

Many of us on here have demons of one sort of another, and sometimes we do express opinions which are considered by some to be eccentric or outrageous.

However, we must accept that others may disagree with those opinions from time to time, and they should be allowed to have their say without being shot down all the time, as you seem to want to do.

I don't see any false accusations, on here, most have been honest and truthful.

PS are you really a silly cow?

I've never seen Janey have a problem with anyone disagreeing with her. However, it's a shame that some can't disagree without slinging insults and getting personal.

Me, I'll be spending this evening watching Michael Palin's The Last Day of World War One. (Sorry, Sylvia in Canada, it's on TVO, the Ontario public/educational channel.) My mum watched it earlier this week and said some of it was difficult to watch -- it was her uncle (whom she never knew) who was killed in the last throes of that wretched war.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Day_of_World_War_One

Then it will be Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World, a documentary made from the book.

http://www.amazon.com/Paris-1919-Months-Changed-World/dp/0375760520

which I'm looking forward to a lot. If they'd done it right, Hitler might never have happened ...

Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy and Curb Your Enthusiasm and Bored to Death, too, of course. Might not make it all the way through the heavy Sunday schedule in one night. Somewhere in there (fortunately, the CBC shows its programming in 5 different time zones and we can access them all), a bit of Battle of the Blades. Male pro hockey players partnered with female figure skating champs competing at ice dancing. Eat your hearts out, foreigners.

To quote

"Cãt I've never seen Janey have a problem with anyone disagreeing with her. However, it's a shame that some can't disagree without slinging insults and getting personal."

Are you on a different planet to the rest of us?

This is exactly what Janey has been doing to others for as long as many members can remember, i.e. slinging insults and getting personal to anyone who dared to offer a different opinion to hers.

I think most members are trying to draw a line. You might want to consider doing the same.

Oh I thought this had sunk. Just come on this evening. It is preferable to me the initiator of the thread if you can keep it civilized please. If not I will delete. You may not agree with Janey but she has a right to her views without name calling. Thanks.

My my.

"This is exactly what Janey has been doing to others for as long as many members can remember, i.e. slinging insults and getting personal to anyone who dared to offer a different opinion to hers."

"Generalization", anyone?

Actually, that's what's called an attempt at proof by bald assertion.

You sez it, and that proves it's true.

Just so's you know:

Not.

Just another sorry, tired attempt to discredit someone whose views you do not wish to be seen or heard, or heeded by anyone who happens to see or hear them. By character assassination.

Another charmer, aincha?

I have disagreed , vehemently, with Janey on several occasions ! She has strong opinions (!) and though her arguments (IMO) are not always right ....in 'most' cases she argues with reason and passion, sometimes I suspect the latter quality of making her careless with the former :)

But , she does always put her own name to the argument and takes what ever flak hits... I hope I do the same, certainly in respect of using the board name that goes with my membership number.... I really feel that I want my 'enemy' to know me, and for me to 'know my enemy'....

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 15 Nov 2009 21:23

Ann I could not agree more.

But, you also need to take note that the rest of the membership also has a right to express their views without name calling from one individual.

It works both ways.

Greenpenman whoever you are I monitored this thread all yesterday and although very forthright in her opinions, I never saw Janey make any personal comments against anyone, she kept to the subject throughout and I wish everyone else would leave personal attacks out of it.

In fact I will quite likely delete if this gets any more personal.

GreenPenMan "Are you on a different planet to the rest of us?"

Well, I have been accused of being on a different planet in the past but I stand by my post.

I, myself, have disagreed with Janey in the past and she's challenged me on what I've posted but she's never resorted to insulting me personally. That goes for other posts too.
