Hi Barbra. Don't you start :0))

If Persey wasn't so far away I'd be over there to give her a box around the ears.

How was your Christmas?

Ours was very quiet and very hot!

Persey,

I deliberately type that way to give you something to pick holes in :0))

Actually, it is still dark in the mornings when I commence typing and my new keyboard only has braille characters.

My OH very kindly offered to paint the alphabetic characters onto the keys, but as she is of Ukranian extraction, these proved to be the Cyrillic Alphabet.

You just can't get good help any longer!!

Allan

PS I haven't found how to operate a spell-checker yet on this site. It's a good job that I'm not into witchcraft!

Just discovered I forgot to put out the cheeses - there was that much food I didn't notice that I hadn't done the chesseboard.

Well we will be having flash cheese with our leftovers.

Allan is your typing getting worse?
Did you get a new keyboard and it has gone all wonky when you replaced your computer?
Or is your new computer not compatible with your old keyboard and they are having a row?

LOL ricket, is that when you rick your back playing cricket.

mormally - is that where two mormons that would normally ride two bikes instead ride on a tandem it becomes mormally.

There is Welsh, Scouse, NewZild, Strine and now Allan or should that be Allam. ;-}}}

Hi Sandie

Yep, I have mixed feelings regarding the ricket. I don't mormally follow the test matches but this series has been different.

Unfortunately, Australia had dominated the cricketing game for so long that it actually became boring.

Look after that ankle!

Mixed feelings / sidings with the cricket I guess...or are you still a Pom at heart .lol
My Bil an excellent rugby player, lived in SA now in the US still wants Wales to win every game.lol

Don't follow cricket myself , like watching paint dry! IMO.. Smack me down all you cricket lovers .lol

Trying to do a bit of elevating the ankle and walking on it, it's well puffed up at the mo, but not painful unless I touch it !!

Where is everyone tonight..?
Out enjoying themselves I hope:)

Hi all~~~~

I am not a poet
and don't I know it !

Lovely ones from you lot:))

Have to tell you I'm not a Welsh speaker, can understand rugby commentary.. cos I know what's going on, and general day to to day lingo.
But I made a bo bo with Pen Blydd Hapus ... it means Happy Birthday.lol
A while after I'd typed it something came into my mind thinking it was wrong .lol

I'll correct it.....
Gyda dymuniniadau gorau am y Nadolig a'r Ffwddyn Newydd :)
With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

I got the Nadolid Llawen correct in my first Welsh post.. Merry Christmas!
Hope you all had a good one:))

I slipped on slushy snow with ice underneath on Christmas eve and have a very swollen painful sprained ankle, and an aching back.
Phoned the Dr for advice, she faxed a prescription to to the chemist but by the time my dau got there it was closed.
Dau ,who was with her friend, a recently Graduated nurse went to the local supermarket for anti inflammatory meds for me :))
Still hobbling tho.. nothing broken I'm sure ( an ex First Aider )
Keep taking the tablets ...as they say .

Can't do my usual daily walk, cos of this snow and ice and iffy ankle :((
Never mind, I'm not a choccie person so I won't fill myself with all the sweet stuff over the festive season and put on weight..hopefully:)

Have a good time folks~~~~~

G'day to everyone.

3:15pm on the east Coast of Oz ( Christmas Eve )...so 8hrs and 45 min to Christmas day....and even less for our Kiwi neighbours.

Carolee. Merry Christmas mate....:>))

Officially on holidays as from 1hr ago.
A pleasant sunny 34c today for us in Melbourne, and the streets/traffic are un-normally quite.
I guess, most are at their work Chrissy break ups ( hic )

Christmas day forecast for Melbourne City and suburbs is 28c.....so hopefully we will get it.

Have a great Christmas....and see you in a few days, and will leave you with a small Chrissy Tony's poem dedicated to Allan's "Ethics" thread.....lol

T'was the night before....!!

T'was the night/day before Christmas,on thee Ethics thread.
The Aussie's awake, while the UK was in bed
The Kiwis were chanting,"kia ora" to all
From down under the Southern cross,did we call

From here in my study, around early twylight
My computer switched on, i settled down for the night
I logged on to GR, with click of my mouse
From here in my Southern Hemisphere house.

I clicked onto Chat, in the blink of an eye
But the thread it had moved,way back to page five
I nudged it, and bumped it,and jiggled it some
And it shifted itself, right back to page one

It wasnt the Ethical thing,i agree
But i needed to read the last post after me.
Now Barbra's, Now Sandie's,and Persephone's too
And Colin's,and Allan's,....the ones that i new.

And other folk also,had typed in tonight
Some that iv'e seen,around on the site
I know them by name,and have read their posts
Some from the inland,and some from the coasts

Then onwards and upwards i scrolled through the thread
Reading each one, with my eyes turning red.
My neck it was aching,and my throat it was dry
So i reached for a Beer,as the fridge it was nie....:>))

So i started to type,and added my post
And then raised my glass,in a guesturing toast
To all on the thread,i wish you good cheer
A Merry Christmas to all,and a..... "Happy New Year"

Av a good un

Cheers. Tony..:>)) "The Poet"...lol

Good afternoon from a partially sunny, still snow laid South Wales:))

Hope every one is well:) My lot have colds :(( all still working tho and passing it on to their colleagues.. where they probably got it from in the first place !!

Love to see the discussion about dialects is is still on going. lol
I have 2 cousins ,poms, who live in Oz., One a £10 pommie, who's not been back to the UK, the other an ex air hostess who married an Oz pilot.and has returned a few times.Most recently when her mum died.
I've spoken to them both recently and whilst they may have lost their Welsh accents, are obviously Brits, no sign of an Oz accent.
My sister and Bil both born in S Wales emigrated to S.A in 1982 (?)where their son was born in 1986, when they visited in 1991 neither my sister or Bil sounded different, but my nephew had a definite S.A accent. They now live in the US and he has picked up a US accent, sister hasn't. Bil has a bit of of a US 'drawl'.
One thing that sticks in my mind about S.A slang ?wordage , nephew kept asking where his tackiees where we would call them trainers-- sports shoes, also used for leisure :))

Tony and Perse~~
You're testing me now with some of your sayings, some obvious ,some not:) Sussed the Merry Christmas.lol
Loved the 'conversation' you had with the waitress Tony .lol
Hope I haven't missed Colin...
I typed out a Best wishes message to him , but it doesn't seem to have been posted !
~~~ to any one on the thread I've not mentioned and are not on this page , Allan , Barbra , Carolee are:)
Nadolig Llawen i ti ~~~~ac Pen Blewdd Hapus :)
To save you all googling...lol
Merry Christmas to you and a Happy new Year :)
I expect we will speak before then, but bye for now~~
Ho ho Tony, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well cobber.
I thought afterwards I shouldn't have said excuse me I should have said scuse I. Or maybe 'don't come the raw prawn with me!!' Or "fair suck of the sav"
My OH can't stand it if you are in a pub for a meal and the waitress comes up and says "are youse (ewes) ready to order".
He had to reform me - I would drop the g and say how ya doin' or how's it goin.
My cousin (born in NZ) who lives in Melbourne had a young NZild rellie staying and they thought she was wanting chops but it was chips - she said to me the language must be getting bad over there.
Stiffen the crows
It's time for some shut eye.
lolol...Perse.
My first encounter with a Kiwi was back in the 60s.
She was a receptionist for a company i contracted for.
We were having a friendly chat in general and during the conversation i asked if she had kids
Yes, she said...... i have sex!.
So i says...yes well....... we all have sex now and again.....but how many kids do you have?
Kia orana e kia manuia rava i teia Kiritimeti e te Mataiti Ou ....mate...;>))
Excuse me Tony I will have you know that my Husband and I do not get picked as being Kiwis when we are in your lovely country. When we tell them they say to us "say fish and chips" and expect us to say fush and chups but we do not. Not every Kiwi has the dead give away vowel sounds. A few people asked if we were from Tassie but all others took us to be just another Aussie bloke and blokess. Fair dinkum.
Even here in NZ there are different accents and if you are on the West Coast of the South Island or down in Gore - you will notice that more than a fewy roll their r's. The Maori also have different pronunciations for their words and I once had a clever dick Canadian tell me how to say Whangarei. To which I replied it depends on which area you are from and which tribe.
We have just had a new splashback fitted in our kitchen and the person fitting it was from South Africa, but he also happens to be Chinese. You just do not expect a Chinese person to talk with a very distinctive South Africaan accent.
And you are right the Scots and the Brits never lose their accents and my smart a**e husband can usually pick where they are from in England as well.(he worked as a truckie over there when he did his OE) I can usually spot a Yorky, a Brummie or a Liverpudlian but can't pick the rest of them.
