Do they flower (like our pohutukawa and rata) at Christmas time Allan?

They do make a mess when they have finished flowering - bit like my bougainvillea - the petals travel from the deck and into the kitchen for a visit.

Hi Barbra,

We've got some slow growing Callistemon to put in as a hedge plant. The variety we have bought grow to a height of 1 metre, with a spread of 1metre.

At the moment they are still in pots as it is too hot and dry to plant anything in the garden at the moment.

We still need another nine or ten but have to buy them as we see them as they are not always in stock.

I have found that I should not be thinking about something when doing another. I was about to take out the plastic milk bottle to the recycling bin but was thinking of something else and here I was heading out the door carrying the utensil basket from the dishwasher. I had just emptied the dishwasher and was probably thinking about something else then as well.

G'day to all from a hot WA. 35c today and next three days forecast for 33c.

We had one day of continuous rain last week and now back to dry conditions.

I only did one day at work last week as nothing had been organised for me and the entire department was on leave until 10th January!

See, I came on here then promptly forgot I had. still I notice there has not been much activity anyway. We had a beautiful day today here in Gloucester Sandie, brilliant blue skies, a frosty start so slippy road and pavements, quite cold but crisp and dry.

We had dreadful snow Friday , buses didn't start until 10 am, no taxis on the ranks, main roads were quite iffy, hubby got our car out and got to work , but it rained in the afternoon and yesterday , so it's all gone again now .lol

Very frosty this morning, haven't ventured out to put veg in compost bin yet !
Is that Bourton on the Water you were speaking about Barbra..?
Haven't been there since I was about 8.
My dad and mum had friends in Tewkesbury, dad lodged with their parents when he went to work for the Post Office in that area ( before he was married, pre 1941).. you had to go where the work was ! He lived in South Wales. He and mum became firm friends with whom I called my aunt and uncle as we were very close , and I spent many a summers holidays with them,( on my own ) beautiful area.They spoiled me rotten.:)))
They also spent many hols as families with us in West Wales.
Unfortunately they have both passed away so I don't frequent the area now, but am in contact regularly with their son and DIL who moved to the United Emirates many yrs ago , now in Lanka ( as they call it ..lol)

Clear blue skies now , had lunch, so I will do the recycling bags in readiness for tomorrow morning.

It can get very cold up on the top of Mt Wellington and the snow can be quite thick up in the car park and then the next day it can be sunny as and no snow to be seen.

Our Mt Wellington is just a little hill (don't let Huia see me say that) but it is one of our dormant volcanoes. Our up hill down dale city is covered in them several dormant volcanoes surround where I live.. Some have craters in the top where they were once alive and kicking. People love to live on sheer hill sides in NZ, quite a few of them have slid down these hills as a result of the weather, what people will build just to get a view.

Ann when we first went & stayed in Bourton it was quiet then,but as time went on there were deck chairs on the grass along the river banking . thats why we stopped going . . alot of places have changed . ~~~~~~ Allan ,,Perse dont like curry . . ;0))

I have been to Tassie twice and found it to be a fantastic place. Although my daughter was born in the UK, she saw her first snow in Tassie, on Mt Wellington.

Perse, My parents had very good friends (I think the men were in the RN together), I called them Uncle and Aunt, in the 50s they emigrated to Tasmania. They are long gone now but I think their son is probably still there, He is the same age as me so an oldie if still alive. he became a teacher. They used to write to my parents and they loved it there.

Will that be a full day's work sitting on your hands then Allan?

Tony - I saw the Gene Kelly and long legged Cyd Charisse, Brigadoon version at the movies and since on TV but have also seen a version (must have been made for TV) with Robert Goulet in - also had Peter Falk (Columbo) without his raincoat.

Hi there Barbara in Scotland where they eat more takeaway curries than anywhere else. My gran who died before I came along used to talk to her sister in Gaelic - my dad said most of the time the kids couldn't understand them but they knew what she was saying when she told them off. She was from Ancrum & her parents eventually settled in NSW.

Ann of all the places over here on this side of the world I would say that Tasmania would be top of the pops, there is so much beautiful scenery and being settled before the rest of OZ, the buildings and bridges are just that much older plus they were built by the convicts. The place is absolutely steeped in History. Though when I first went there and we arrived in Hobart - I looked out at the airport and thought OMG this is like the "Flying Doctors". And the food is fantastic, I had never seen so many varieties of pies.

I never really travelled to the Southern realms of the UK unless it was to do an Army Reserve Camp, but i did travel extensively in the North of England and North Wales.

use to have most of our holidays in the cotswolds . had a few days there & then went to Devon & cornwall . stayed in Bourton , lower slaughter . moreton in marsh , beautifull places , then started coming up to scotland 16yrs ago & finished up living here . 4yrs now love it . no competittion here .very freindly in the village . & shops . when you go to the gp maybe 4-5 people in the waiting room . & they have time for you . hated all the hustle & bustle of busy towns & traffic .. time to chill now & enjoy retirement . We had a day of heavy rain yesterday but no thunder. Temps have also dropped to mid-twenties.

Ann, it was never my intentention to start another Aussie thread as I used to be a regular on SueMaid's thread. This one was just part of a long standing joke about a couple of us male contributors to Sue's thread going off the rails everytime Sue went away.

As most others on here know, I'm originally form the UK. Born in Manchester and came out here with my young family in 1982. We have lived in the Bunbury area since 1986 and OH and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary last September.

Regarding the job at Waroona, I phoned yesterday to find out what time they wanted me, only to be told that my 'boss' is on leave until next Monday. I have his email saying that I should be there today and tomorrow so it looks like two days sitting on my hands! OK so long as I get paid for it; it will certainly go on my invoice

Tony, I am not native to Gloucestershire but have been here almost 19 years this time and we were here for 8 years in the 70s, love it, the Cotswolds are beautiful. We are about 8 miles from Cheltenham.
