Provided we keep calm, and stick to the same story, we will be fine.
Mother is a very shrewd, and wise cookie. She will see through the sisterhood for what they are.
Just explain that the minute her back was turned, the petticoat warriors took full advantage of the situation, becoming aggressive and unreasonable. Mother would have predicted this anyway.

Given that we were outnumbered, pursued by frenzied blood thirsty females, hellbent on revenge, we had no option other than to escape the thread and seek refuge in another place.
Tactical retreat being the most expediant course of action given the grave situation we found ourselves in........
Berona swinging her steam mop, Linda with a giant blender, threatening to mash us into smoothies - Diane hurling empty Bailey bottles at us, Barbra swinging her bagpipes round her head, Alison with a hot iron, Carole swishing her riding crop, Pat throwing books, Perse doing the Haka, armed with a wasps nest.
Of course, when Mother returns, the sisterhood will be lining up, falling over themselves to tell tales - none of it the truth.
Like I said, justice will prevail, Mother will not be fooled so easily, and we will be exonerated of all charges.
Case dismissed I think.
