Hello to you all,

Bridget my diet is going well and I find it quite easy to stick to it, haven't lost any more weight though:)

Had a stroll around the craft market this morning but did not buy anything, it looked quite festive down there as they were celebrating their 10th year, lots of balloons everywhere. There were some beautiful paintings but I couldn't even consider buying one as our house already looks like a gallery:).

The sun is shining but it is rather chilly..

Have a lovely weekend and look after yourselves.

Good morning to you all. Jan you must be pleased with the doctors view etc but as has already been said, take one step at a time.
Val, I hope that you are managing your new diet, it is really quite a healthy diet and these days. The weight loss must be very pleasing!

I am not staying on line for a while as we have a tremendous electric storm happening right now and jet and Joe really do not like the noise, they become quite stressed.

Hopefully it will not last too long

My surgeon was happy and I don't have to see him for 6 months, I also had a visit from the physio and he has given me some extra exercises to do.......so all systems go now, but I have been warned to be cautious and not go OTT...

Best wishes all

Thanks for your thoughts Ann and Tess.
Ann hope you are OK after your visit to the dentist.
Greenfingers , hope your visit to the surgeon went well and that all is fine.
Our water restrictions are to be lifted from Monday after the good rain we hve had over th past couple of weeks. We have decided that we will continue being careful and use the tanks water for the garden, and we won't save the bath water to fill the cistern!

Off to yet another birthday tea this morning, but as I am now on a diabetic diet I won't be having sweet things to eat. Since starting this diet last Wednesday I have lost 2 kg. I must say that I have not found this too difficult.

Look after yourselves.

Tess, minus tooth now. We were really pleased to get there and find the dentist we have had for the past 7 months has gone. Neither of us liked her she was very abrupt and not at all gentle. The new dentist seems very pleasant (as dentists go) he was very gentle and I didn't even realise the tooth was out. Just have to take it easy today now and not disturb the 'clot'. (another £58 plus £48 for OH's filling!)

My thoughts have been turned to Norway Too, I feel so sorry for the parents of those who were killed at the Island especially. They sent their children off in good faith. One parent was so lucky, she had two children there and both escaped. I have never been to Norway but. like others have always viewed it as a peaceful country. But the man has to be insane so it could sadly happen in any country.
What is puzzling is his ability to have gained control of a machine gun. I don't thinkt hey have said where he got that yet.

Greenfingers, I hope all goes well with your check up. I envy you being able to paint, i have to content myself with taking photos and 'painting with light'.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone...I am sure that as parents our thoughts are with those in Norway who lost their children...all those young lives...awful

Off to see surgeon this afternoon so he can assess his handiwork !!

Went back to my art group yesterday...nearly finished a painting of our house, which I aim to use as a Christmas Card

Val, sorry to hear about the death of your friend. Atleast, as you say, she is now out of pain.

Ann, hope all went well at the dentist, and thst you are feeling ok now.
I hate (fear) the dentist too, am hanging on to my remaining teeth with all my might. I don't want "magic teeth" any more.

Green fingers, so pleased that the wedding went so well. Good on you for managing to wear heels after all this time.

I seem to have forgotton to say that my memories posted a few days ago were of the early fifties.

Since I last posted my thought have been (big time) with the people of Norway.

Thirty years ago (1981) My son and I went to Norway for a holiday. A beautiful friendly and peaceful land.
It is a holiday that will remain in my memory for ever.
We didn't go to Oslo, but flew into Bergan and travelled around a bit.
Like most other people I have been stunned and shocked by the terrible events of a few days ago.

Will be back with more memories soon.

I hope that you are all well.

Not a happy bunny this morning, off to have a tooth extraction in an hour or so and I do so hate the dentist.

Looking out of the window this morning I looked across the sea which was like glass, dark ridge of hills behind and just coming up was the sun and the sky tinged with pink, it was such a beautiful picture - I thought it would make a very nice jigsaw puzzle.

You might remember my friend and neighbour who was told there was nothing more which could be done for her - sadly she lost her battle with cancer yesterday morning. Although sad, I know she is not in such unbearable pain any more. It would be such a wonderful thing if a cure could be found for this.

On a lighter note, I am off to have my hair cut and permed this morning, I always feel better after a hair-do.

Yesterday I forgot some of washing out on the line, only saw it when I opened the back door this morning, I must say I was pleased to see it still there!

Take care.

Glad all went well Jan, it sounds lovely

Tess how wonderful to have had some of your childhood in the wonderful lake District. Loved your sister's ambition to be a 'visitor' when she grew up!

Just posting a few notes...our daughters wedding went really well, it was a lovely day, weather just right, hotel great, registrar perfect and everything had so much meaning it wasn't what I expected at all. Daughter looked beautiful and the groom and his son didn't look too bad either !! The meal was lovely and because there was only 26 of us for the meal it was really intimate, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when the speeches were given and that included the groom. Both PH and I are really tired today, all that socialising is tiring...we met the grooms godmother and aunt and his dad again and got on really well, and I managed to wear heels for the first time in two years

they are off on their honeymoon today

First Memories....

We lived in Keswick in the Lake District. I took for granted the beauty of the place. Played outside a lot, despite being under school age.
Remember some of the neighbours, who were referred to as Aunty - - - - or Uncle - - - - .
Some of the neighbours ran guest houses and frequently had "visitors" staying. My older sister stated that when she grw up she wanted to be a visitor!

Also remember Mum saying that I couldn't have any more (of whatever food I was eating), because I had had my ration.
We sometimes had family members staying with us, we would walk down to the lake (Derwentwater) with them to start them on their way to a days walking.

Also had am Scottish great-aunt stay. She used to do shadow pictures on the wall, as a special treat before we went to bed.

One day my Mum went to Carlisle to get the biscuits (well, that was what my dad said), she came back a few days later with a baby boy! (but no biscuits).

This is when I started having ambitions-
To have a whisteling kettle like aunty Dolly.
To have magic teeth (that could move) like aunty Vi
To have a motorbike and side car like ------ (his name escapes me just now), who worked for the RAC.

Dad was in the army, sometimes I walked down to the Parade ground to have a nose.

The only possession I remember is a windmill, the thing on a stick that ywirled around if you blew on it or if the wind caught it.
I know that I must have had other play things, I just don't remember them.

Dad was posted to the Far East, leaving Mum behind with three young children. She would have to get everything ready to hand back to the army, (possibly at short notice) as well a look after us and get everything packed for our sea voyage.

To make things easier, she packed everything up and we moved to her brothers home in Birmingham
This meant that she caould do the "hand over" in her own time and then concentrate on us and the upcoming sea voyage.

More later.
