MaryinSpain Report 3 Jan 2012 10:50

Good morning all
Belated New Year greetings to you all. We had a quiet New Year - took a bottle of cava on roof terrace just before midnight to watch the fireworks - now that was disappointing - suppose it is a sign of the times - town hall having no money. Thursday night sees the Three Kings Parade which we will be going to see - weather permitting - I just love seeing the children's little faces - they are so excited - and almost fight for the sweets that are thrown to them.
We are having such wonderful weather at the moment - sometimes very windy but a sky so blue it could be summer - well exagerated a little - but mostly so mild - just hope we do not pay for it later. February always seems to be the month when we get winter.
Like Gerard we are trying to eat all that food we buy in just for the festive season - although I did not think we went that mad - couple of packs of Pringles - of which at least half is still left - couple bars of chocolate - and half of one is still left - oh and the mince pies I made - hubby got a couple left but I have a jar of mincemeat open so he will have to have a few more.
Well I have done the ironing this morning, not a lot to do but at least it is out of the way now. So I guess I will have to do a little cleaning up now - catch up with you all soon.
Take care
Love Mary xx

Good morning to all my Cyber Friends,

The sun is shining but it is still chilly at nearly 10.10hrs.
Another late night last night as two friends arrived to watch the last round of the darts with my OH and whilst they were doing that I ded some family research. Now I find it strange how for weeks or even months I can look for evidence of this or that with very little result...and then... All at once.....they are almost talking to me!! Does this happen to others? I do hope that I am not the only one!

All pains and aches have disappeared so far today, so hoping that it stays that way.

Not sure what we will be doing today but I am sure that we will keep busy.

Bye bye for now :-D :-D

Good morning Cyber Friends,

I hope that the sun is shining either literally or in your hearts. We are very late this morning doing all the little things that have to be done each day. The reason for this is that we sat up until gone 02.00 hrs watching the dates competition, such drama and not just from the players!!

Woke this morning to a beautiful blue sky with the sun shining. The town is back to normal having celebrated New Year, everyone is back to work. The next big day is 12th Night and we will go into town to see the Parade and the
Three Kings, Mary, Joseph and the newest born child who will be in the
parade representing Jesus. Sweets will be thrown to the public and music will
go on for a couple of hours until about 01.00 hrs.

The following day all will be back to normal.

OH has just told me that two of his friends will be her for 21.00 hrs not sure if this is for football or darts as he then went downstairs to clean the pool and sweep the garden etc.

Well that is about all for now, with the exception of asking for prayers for my two year old great neice. I have added to my ZZ post

Take care everyone, enjoy the day, "be good and if you cannot be good be carefully" as my grandma used to say.

Bridget.

Good morning Cyber people

Well what a day yesterday!
OH commented when we went to bed last night that we hadn't eaten a proper meal all day. Crumpets, sandwiches and Christmas cake. Cheesy Footballs, Twiglets, Cheeselets, Cream & Chive Hula Hoops, Nuts, Roses Chocolates, Dates, Figs, Prunes,Chocolate Dates, Cups of tea, and finally a large glass of Baileys. About 10,000 calories, but no proper meal - sounds like Christmas to me!
I can feel a diet coming on! but not until after the new year!!!

Bridget - sorry about the back - I have been very lucky with my health, my only real problems are my right ear, and that has been troubling me since before I was a toddler, and my right knee, (an old cricket injury from 30+ years ago) but it only flares up, when I get too heavy (Oooops!!)
Great family news - when it comes in threes and the first two are good news the third one will be good news too!!
My football team are playing QPR this afternoon, so we are hoping for a good result to finish off 2011.
Time to sign off now, must take OH a cup of tea in bed, and I wish all of you and yours a Happy and Prosperous 2012
:-) <3 :-D <3 :-) <3 :-D <3 :-)

Good morning to all my Cyber Friends.
My sciatica is still very painful and OH said that I woke him several times throughout the night. The difficulty is that it could disappear as quickly as it started and I really hate taking pain killers but I have taken them this morning.

Wonderful news this morning from the twin son who is not in the Army , he proposed to his partner yesterday and she accepted, not sure about dates for the wedding. I am thrilled for him as he did marry when he finished uni and was shocked beyond belief when she left him. He said right up to very recently that he would never marry again. I am delighted for him that at last he feels able to move on in this way. His lady is a very practical, down to earth young lady, with a kind family who have accepted him into their family. The lady concerned has a child of 10 who she has brought up her son with help from her parents, having the child when very young, however I could not fault this girl who told me everything when I first met her.
No date for marriage yet.

So a birth, and a wedding next year......hope no deaths??!!! <3 :-D

We are going out shortly to buy a few bits and pieces such as more fruit, but will be back latter.
Wishing everyone a happy day

Bridget

Good afternoon everyone.

I hope that you are all having a splendid day.
We have been busy putting together some fairly cheap plastic units each having four trays which can be pulled out. One is for all the polishes, sprays, etc and for the dusters etc. Then one for all the fresh veg and fruit, and the third is for tins and packets when we buy in bulk. It has stopped the over loading in the store cupboard and under the sink so we are very pleased. Then of course we had to empty the larder cupboard and clean it etc etc.

Oh is one getting a late lunch ready as we are at the quiz night tonight.

That is about all my news for now,

Bridget

I wondered how good the audio books were. Well sounds as if they are good for insomniacs then. Am just over halfway through Netherwood on the Kindle and enjoying it too.

Berona Report 27 Dec 2011 23:03

Thank you Ann. I count my blessings. I have four wonderful children and during those last twenty years, they have found partners and now have families of their own. They are all good people and good to me - so I really can't ask for more than that.

I received a Kindle for my birthday and ordered the two Greaders' choices, but mistakenly ordered one as a audio book. I had to get my DIL to download it for me because I didn't have a WiFi connection (I do now, thanks to Xmas!) then got a surprise when it started talking to me! Each time I try to run it, I feel myself going to sleep! I don't think I will be near finished it for the review date. It was great reading the other book. So different from holding "London" - with more than 1300 pages - made my wrists tired!

Sending you a ((((((hug)))))) Berona and lots of thoughts as this time of year must be so sad for you. I don't blame you making yourself comfortable, if you can afford it you have all the things you need to make life easier.

Hazel, so sorry that you didn't enjoy your Cristmas.

Berona

Berona Report 27 Dec 2011 20:48

I'm always glad when Christmas and New Year are over. I have been a widow for twenty years now and have got on with life, but when this time of year comes around, it brings it all back to me. My soulmate died on 22nd Dec and the funeral held on 29th, so although it doesn't seem like twenty years to me, I make the best of it and am glad when it has passed.

I live on my own these days and I have a dishwasher. The one thing I promised myself was that I would have comfort in my old age - and I use my dishwasher about every three days - I have my air conditioner on whenever I feel cold or hot - and I cannot bend or stretch to hang out clothes - so I use my dryer! I know it's not what the government advises - but I 'conserved' energy in the days when I couldn't afford to buy the appliances or pay the electricity bill - so I'm making up for it now.

Good heavens Bridget we use the dishwasher all the time for just the two of us. Life is too short to spend it with hands in the washing up bowl. We do was some things by hand but otherwise run the dishwasher every two days.

To everyone

I had a message just a short time ago from Val who no longer is on the board but we have stayed in touch.
Both Val and her husband are fine and had a very enjoyable Christmas with friends visiting. Her garden is doing well and she often thinks about us. Their health is good, just the usual aches and pains that most of us older members have from time to time.

Val sends her wish of good health to all of us and a good New Year.

I have promised to stay in touch and we will be writing to each other once a month. I will report back each time.

It is rather cool here to say the least....the trees are beginning to sway, and Jet and Joe are snuggled up to me as I write this. TV is rather boring, maybe it is the time of the year. So sad today when I heard that one of the well known chefs from Australia had lost his wife and three daughters in a fire at home and has suffered 40 percent burns himself. It doesn't bear thinking about....

Morning all
Hubby back t work this morning and I too must do a little housework. We had our next door neighbour around Christmas Eve for a meal - I did a load of tapas with a large bowl of salad and crusty bread - it went down very well and we finished with homemade mince pies. - well they did I do not like them. Christmas day we were on our own - first time for a few years - and had a very pleasant day - went for a walk in the morning and sat outside a bar watching the sea and some large rollers.
Yesterday did not do too much - did go down the town for a walk - had some lunch and fell asleep for an hour.
Like you Bridget I have never managed 12 grapes - wonder if anyone has.
We will be staying in New Years Eve with a bottle of champagne and of course the famous grapes.
5th January evening, weather permitting, we are going to see the parade - which I really enjoy seeing the children's excited faces.
Well enjoy your day
Love Mary xx

The sun is shining, the town is quiet, Jet and Joe are sleeping and snoring and OH is reading his book.
West Ham had a draw last night and all in all it was not a partcularly good game, but to have a goal against them just about 10 minutes from the end was a disgrace

We are staying at home today, no gassing around for I need to vacuum everywhere upstairs where we spend most of our time. I have not done much housework in the last two days...well nothing really apart from washing up!! No point in using the dishwasher for just two people.

Christmas does not end today where we live as the Spanish consider 12 th night the most important date. The parade is normally fantastic, the three wise men arrive, sweets are thrown to the children and adults and this is the day that presents are given.

I really enjoy New Year and we stay at home. On the balcony we raise our glasses as the bells ring out and have to eat 12 grapes, one at a time, whilst the bells ring......I have never got to actually finishing this...it is more difficult than you think.

Is anyone going to the the sales in the UK? I used to go to Harrodsburg every year to buy my children clothes which I would normally not have been able to afford. First husband bought me a beautiful mink coat one year....wish I had not donted it to a charity about 10 years ago.....here in Spain the ladies still wear there's.

Looking forward to more entries, will try to get back later to day.

Meanwhile please enjoy your day

Well, that's it for another year! We had a full family get-together on 18th, as we now have to share our children with their inlaws - and this year, it was the in-laws' turn to have them on Christmas Day.
On the actual day itself, I was at daughter's home and joined by her in-laws, who are in the same situation as I am with sharing their children. So, we had two days of Christmas fare - with so much festive food that I didn't feel I would be eating again for another week!
Add to that the fact that I received two presents which contained chocolates - and need I say more??? Back to the diet when the chocolates run out - which will be very soon!!
