I am pleased that two hours ago an Agent asked if he could look at out house as someone has looked at it from outside on several occasions and now they want to know the details. Agents been and just left and the chap is interested.
He telephoned the person who is looking and will call back later today to agree a time and day!!

I am becoming more excited every day.
Only a few days now and I will see my lovely granddaughter Evie for the first time!
I have many many photos but not the same as holding , watching. Looking, learning all about her whilst I can see her.
Mum and dad, one of my sons, are not forgotten as they are a wonderful couple.....

Thank you Ann for explaining why there is a problem this year.

Will be back soon, Jet & Joe are demanding that I play with them!!

AnninGlos Report 3 Sep 2012 10:02

Bridget I think that it is a mixture of things. GCSE certainly didn't seem so difficult as O levels (I have taken both).

And the exams themselves changed whereby some of the marks were allotted for course work and some for the actual exam. In my opinion I feel it is easier to get a higher mark for course work if, like myself, you found revising and retaining information difficult. and also exam nerves mean that sometimes marks are affected, so if the course work gives a good percentage towards the total it will raise the levels of passes.
However, I think that is being changed back to exam only.

The problem this year was specifically with English when the exam boards changed the marking to make it harder to get a C pass and above. This being the pass mark that many need to get into 6th form college to take A levels. The problem arose when it was realised that one group, who took the exam earlier in the year were marked more tolerantly than the later group. So you could have two friends of equal ability one with a C pass and one with a D.

Good morning to all my cyber friends. It is pleasantly warm today, thank goodness for that! The heat this summer has been almost unbearable.
Jet and Joe are definitely getting old! Gone are the desire to run everywhere, they spend a lot of their time dozing or just sitting on patio watching their world.

OH is down stairs, having looked around the garden making sure that they are having the right level of water, and feeding when needed. Yesterday we were lucky to find that many of our figs were ready to eat......I have had several and they are delicious.

I have been rather annoyed about the changes to our trees...however I have now found how to use the system BUT it still does not allow one to see the whole person and family! I like many others will just have to jog along but I am still going to leave the highest cost and go back to the minimum,

I have been watching the news, especially the changes in education in schools. It is all so different to when I was at school. I cannot decide if grades have changed which is why so many people get such high results or are they just brighter than my
time at school?

Well enough from me, so enjoy your day

:-)

Am I the only one who likes the new tree ? I only have a lap top so does that make a difference ? Do we all need the threads more in the darker months, soon to be on us ?

They don't use the High Altar in August, and the choir is absent - so it's a lot less formal :-(

Bridget, I have not tried to access my tree on my IPad but sometimes when you need to hover, with the IPad you need to 'touch'. i.e. if, on this computer, I want to see when somebody joined I hover over their name. On my I pad I have to touch then name or just under and it will give the same information.

Unless you need to access a lot of records, if I were you I would downgrade to standard when you renew. A lot cheaper. :-D

Gerard, a bit puzzled as to why church will be better now after the holidays. In my memory church never had a holiday and just continued the same. Have things changed?

Bridget

I absolutely disliked the new tree when it was introduced, too many glitches and mistakes, but now it is much, much better than it was, of course this is on a computer not an iPad, although I still preferred the old version.

I had some good news the son of one my cousins, who are from the Czech Republic, contacted me from Australia, where he lives with his sister, we hope to swap some photos and history. (I have a photo of his English grandmother holding me when I was a baby!)

Church will be back to normal this Sunday (after the holidays) - it will be great to have the choir back too.

Looking forward to your postings
Love and Prayers for all

Good morning

How are you all?
Now I have a dilemma .......
I deplore the new layout of the trees and am seriously thinking of leaving GR...but I have also thought of just not renewing at platinum level. I use my iPad for a lot of my work, it is eay to carry around , is the new format better when using a computer . I ask as some people seem to be able to hover over certain things on the tree and then see items which I cannot on my iPad ?

I need to charge my iPad now as it is very low but will be back later

Bridget :-D

Friend came round last Friday evening and checked cooker for me. he comfirmed that the element wasn't working, so ordered a replacement. Heard today that it is on its way. So friend will come round to soet it when it arrives.

Went to my new exercise calss today (this was fourth time). Seemed to have done more this week, so aching a bit.

Have got a decorator coming round tomorrow to give me a quote for doing my reception rooms.
He is busy till early October, but I'm hoping that it will be well worth the wait.

Mary, I hope that you and your sister are able to find a decent home for your mum as and when it becomes necessary
It must be very isolating fo her having problems with vision and hearing, no wonder she is a bit crabby.
Bridget has given you a lot of really good advice. Your poor sister proably needs some support and a hug too.

Hope that you are all well.

Mary

When my mum went into a home - she hated it at first - she had just had a new knee fitted and it wasn't working too well. She was well looked after but she didn't make too many friends and watched a lot of TV. My brother in Eastbourne visited once a month and although I lived just as far away I visited every week. My mum was a bit of a grumbler too but I made sure she enjoyed my visits. My brother in the USA had arranged for the Nursing Home in the first place (it was expensive £400 per week and that was15 years ago) but he was only able to visit her once (favourite son though!) - I think visiting is what she needs and to be reassured - that's my opinion anyway. Good Luck with the visit!

By the way still not a lot happening my end - although I did get in touch with a second cousin once removed last week on Genes - she seemed pleased so that is good news.

Prayers and good health wishes for all - back on soon

Mary

I expect you will know this but in my experience no one likes to go into a home but most people do settle. Mind you some " residents" have a good time once they have settled but you would never know this when a visitor arrives !!

I expect you and your sister will be aware but is really important that photos, pictures etc are on display, that the person has their own bedding, clearly marked who they belong to, same with clothes, shoes, eats.

Listen to your mum but do not allow it to last more than a few minutes,.,.,tell her you have come to enjoy seeing and talking to her not to listen to a lot gof grumbling g.

Is there a garden that you can take her out to, it often detracts people who are "moaners".

Good luck with your visit

Thanks for your comments Bridget and Ann - I have said much the same to my sister but as things stand at the moment I think mom will end up in a home which is probably the best place as she will have company and my sister will be able to do as she wants. I just know my mom does not want to be in a home so guess who will get ranted at when we go over !! I do appreciate how frustrated she must feel but my sister is not like me or mom.
Thanks again ladies

Mary I wonder if your Mum just feels very isolated, not being able to hear is bad enough, even when you have aids as I do, but not being able to see she may feel shut out from everything. She will take her frustrations out on your sister because she is close to her. Does she have any friends who call and see her?

SpanishEyes Report 25 Aug 2012 17:05

Mary
How nice to hear from you. Re your mum, elderly people often do ppear to upset their relatives not meaning to be so difficult but perhaps just lonely at times and not to be able to say what they would like to say in case they are a nuicence or in case they sound silly. I am sure that life must be quite hard if you cannot hear or be as mobile you would like to be. Mind you I do recall being quite cross with my mother when she was I'll in her 80s......

Please please everyone say prayers, or what ever you do when you really do want something. We have just had a phone call to say that a family are possibly interested in buying our house!

Thanks and have a good Bank Holliday

MaryinSpain Report 25 Aug 2012 09:52

Ho all
Well my excuse for not adding is that the room the computer lives in is so so very hot I cannot stay for too long. Last night we did not even eat our dinner outside as it was so humid it was cooler to eat downstairs. Today it is breezey and so much more pleasant. Must admit this summer has been so much hotter - know I should not moan - suppose it is the humidity that makes it so much worse.

Also my mom is back in hospital and Thursday evening my sister phoned me up in tears - mom had been ¡having a go¡ and really upset her. Don't really know what is wrong with mom - she is 89 deaf and almost blind and also has mobility problems too. She has been checked out for dementia and also had a brain scan all which came back clear but her mood swings would suggest something is not right. Anyway we are going over end of September so hopefully things will be better by then.

Glad you are back home Bridget as has been said no place like your own home is there.

Enjoy the time with your family Ann but I am sure you will.

Well must be off and sort myself out.

Enjoy the Bank Holiday for all those in the UK

Mary xx
