Morning Bridget,
My OH doesn't fly for real he uses a flight simulator! (Microsoft 2004 with updates)
Weather today is a little cloudy but it is still warm and very pleasant. There is a nice gentle breeze, just my sort of weather. I hibernate when it is too hot.
I will PM you with the people you can contact re Denmark & Germany.
Regards
Frances
Apologies to Ann for adding an e to her name.

Hello Bridget,

Well done on the quiz last night, it sounds like fun. Is it a regular event.

We had some rain again last night but this morning the sun is shining.
If we don't have decent rain soon we will be having water restrictions again.

Our ladies meet monthly and we try to have a speaker or go on an outing.

The visit to the new Policlinic was very interesting, after seeing all the facilities we had tea and milk tart at the tearoom and had our meeting.
In an emergency we can now go straight to the Policlinic and not have to waste time getting to the nearest hospital which is about a l5 minuite drive from here.

I simply love cryptic crosswords, the one we have in our daily newspaper is from the Daily Telegraph. Then of course my friend sends me the puzzle from the Lady Magazine which is quite different to anything here.

Flying? My you are adventurous!!

My filing system is also quite simple a sleeve for each family member.

Have just returned from taking my husband to have a haircut, and he sure looks a whole lot better!!!

Well every body have a lovely day.

Good morning everyone I hope that it will be a wonderful day for you all!

Frances, I will send a PM with the names etc of the people I am trying to reseach in Germany and Copenhagen. Thank you for your offer.

Keith,
have you settled into your ne work place, do let us all know how you are doing, going to any more concerts?

Val in SA
How was your meeting, is it monthly and also which are your favourite types of crosswords.?
I like the cryptic crosswords but do not do many of them as OH is so fast at them that I become demoralised. He also does crosswords on line and really enjoys The Englsh Times crossworrds.

I am plodding on with the filing and have decided that simple is best and a folder for each family name.

I have a lot of certs to order and think that the cheapest way is to do this online...I shall have them sent to my sister or daughter and then they can forward the info by email, until I visit them again. The post here is AWFUL!
We do not have a delivery because we are up the mountain and we cannot rent a box in town because there are not enough...hence everything completed online!!!!

More info on the flying please. My regret in life is that I never learnt to fly...twice I thought i was going to..first husbvand worked for BA and they had a flying club...two months before I was due to start it closed and second time when we lived in Essex near to Epping Forest I was going to learn at the local flying club, but Black Monday took a hefty swipe at us so I couild not justify spending the saved money... Maybe I could have a go on line..eh eh. now that would be fun.

The mornings here are now very darlk until around 7am and the temps have certainly dropped, Autumn has arrived, although the trees all around are evergreen so we do not have those wonderful autmnal colours that one sees in the UK. I fact I miss the seasons, we seem to have Winter and Summer only,.

Which is your favourite season and why?

Well Jet and Joe are telling me it is time to feed them, I need my morning coffee and my quiet time, mood is better today, not sure what made my mood lower yesterday....

The Quiz last night was well attended and my team came second..the same team always win but we only meet for friendship and fun so no hard feelings...the two chaps are TV freaks and the score was 98%....of 8 rounds of 10 questions in each round.

Bye for now

hope to hear from you all today

Bridget

Gosh Ann you are terribly organised. I have everything in binders but they all the same colour, black so have added the names on the outside. I am trying to do a separate resume of each family with added pictures of places and people if I have them, but I keep getting side-tracked.
Regards,
Frances
PS OH is quite good at landing aircraft, even think he could do it for real, well he has had enough practice (on the flight simulator, I mean). We had a flight in a helicopter when we were in Germany so now he is determined to master it. He actually hates flying for real!!!!

Good afternoon all, Frances I thought my OH was the only one who spent a lot of time flying (or trying to fly and land) various aircraft and helicopters. He is fine with the flying but not so good with landing so hope he never has to take over the controls of an aircraft!! We'd be going round in circles!

Keith, pleased to hear your good news - holidays here you come then??

Bridget, I have all my family history stuff in acid free holders in 2 ring binders. According to names, blue binders for paternal, red for maternal on my tree and Turquoise for maternal and green for paternal on OH's tree. General notes in one black and one purple binder.

Good morning Bridget,

Am I early this morning??

Seems as if it will be a nice day to-day. Our Ladies Fellowship Group is meeting at our new Policlinic this afternoon. We are going to be given a tour of the facilities which should be interesting, and then we will be having tea and cake at the tearoom. I am looking forward to that.

I have received my crossword puzzles from my friends in England so that will be what I will be doing to-day!!

I saw the fish recipes but we are not great fish eaters, we have a bit of fried fish and chips now and again.

Another nice SA wine is Spier.

Hope you all enjoy the day.

When I go back to UK I am going to buy these acid free sleeves.
I have set up the first five files for different family surnames, Ford, Cowley, Jukes. Dael and Fillmer.
Dael and Fillmer are the most difficult to find as Dael originates from Denmark and Fillmer from Germany in the 1800s.

I went into the garden a while ago to listen to the band music from town but it was too hot to saty there.
OH told me that the music woke him this morning at about 04.30 hrs but have to say I didn"t hear it, so it looks as if the Mayors plan has not worked completley.

Val in SA did you see the new recipes?

well going to do some more research now

Bye

Hello Bridget,

Not exactly! I have everything in acid-free plastic sleeves in Lever Arch Files at the moment, I have each person's certificates etc. together. I don't really know what else to do. Perhaps there is someone who could advise us.

200 messages - WOW!

Do you have a system for the filing? This is a serious question and if anyone else would like to share their system I would be pleased to read it. I am hopelss at these tasks, as my employers have always said "I think outside the box" which has been very good in my career BUT is a D??n nuisance at other times.

All advice is welcome

Bridget

PS I think this is the 200th message!

Good afternoon Bridget and everyone,
Late today as OH has been using the computer, trying to land a helicopter in one piece, unsuccessful so has given up.
Lovely weather again, a few clouds and a slight breeze, perfect in fact!
I know what you mean Bridget, about an unexplained feeling of being down in the dumps when things are going fine....do you think it is an age thing or have we just got too much time in which to think?
My husband does tend to show an interest when I find something out of the ordinary, by ordinary I mean dates of birth etc., like his grandfather's WW1 service record but other than that he is not interested. Hey HO!
Enjoy the day
Frances

A very good morning to you all,

We had some rain during the night which was really nice and I had hoped it would continue to-day but alas no such luck. Although still cloudy, the sun keeps peeping through.

Glad to hear you had good news Keith.

I sorted through a lot of my papers yesterday afternoon after I returned from lunch, so now at least everything is in files. The sad thing for me is that no one else in my family is interested in my research. I am waiting for a death certificate which I ordered in the hopes there will be some useful information on it re the person I think is my ggggrandmother.

I am off to have a cup of tea.

Have a good day everyone.

KingKeith and Berona,

You both beat me to the thred this morning.
keith delighted to hear the goodnews but not as delighted as you! Please come back and let us all know how the transfer is/has gone and are you enjoying the new role?

berona, well it is nice to know that you pop in and read some of the entries, but how about joing us with some daily thoughts, fun, concerns etc. Meanwhile thank you for your kind message

Top Everyone. We went outlast night for our fortnightly Indian meal. Now generally speaking Indian food is really not good here and we do miss it. BUT the local tiny English Bar has a good size terrace and some Indian folk who live about 45 mins away and have a resataurant come once a month andcook real Indian food for anyone who wishes to partake and the cost is reasonable.. SO we do have to book ahaed. We always go if possible otherwise who knows, they may decide that it isn't viable. When they went on holiday I even bought some for the freezer, which those of you who know from the Culinary thread will know I do not do often.

Keith I shall very positive thoughts for you today when I sit and contemplate, I also have a lot to be pleased about this week despite the son who split his tendon and is now in Plaster,

Does anyone have good days without really knowing why and then feel down in the dumbs when everything seems to be OK..??

The weather here today is warming up fast, and I think it is going to be evry hot again. The sea is definetly a good blue , there are a few clouds in the sky soo.....

We are going to have apasta dish tonight I just have to think exactly what, OH defrosted some minced Beef by accident, he forgot to put it back in the freezer when taking out some Ice Cream yesterday.

Val in Sa, your description" the sea looks cruel, dark and very choopy" gave me an instant picture of what you were talking about. Thanks.

Not sure what to do today, not for the lack of things to do but rather a lethargy of not wanting to do anything except maybe read a book, sit in the garden, write a few letters, oh the choices we have to make???

Well time to wonder around the gardens and have my special time, I must remember to include those who are feeling better, had good news etc not just those of us in need.

Well take care, I shall pop back later today to see if anyone else has had the time or inclination to write on here today

Bye

i know what yo mean about the music!!! LOL It used to drive us mad! The music would go on until aroiun 3am and then at 3.30am the disco used to come alive and the Singing, OH MY GOODNESS THE SINGING, we used to sit on the balcony and simply gave up trying to sleep until around 06.00hrs BUT this year that has changed. Local government has decided that after midnight loud music etc must not continue, I think there must have been a lot of complaints, so fare this new legislation has been adhered too, however next Saturday will be the testing time.
Mixed views about the cigars......always looked good but health???????

Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your day and the lunch out. Can understand about yoiur OH being exhausted but I am sure that he also enjoyed going out, maybe just having a coffe or tea out would be better for him next time. It takes quite a while to recover as I am sure you know.

The sun has returned and the weather is pleasantly warm, haven't checked the thermomitor since this morning but would take a guess at around 30c. slight breeze, Blue sea, blue and grey sky and a very slight wind.

Hope we Keith on here soon I wonder if he has settled after his location move and if he has started training staff yet.

Take care everyone. bye until tomorrow
