Good morning all Well I forgot to wake up this morning - well not quite true - woke up numerous times in the night . remember Paul getting up about 8.45 and then zap - woke with a start and it was 9.54 !! I can have restless nights but sleep when most people have been up and about for hours.
Yesterday Paul and I sat at the computer for what seemed hours booking a flight to the UK. Modern technology - I said it was far quicker in the days of travel agents !! Must be getting old. Anyway, we have booked to fly to Newquay, Cornwall on 17th August for a week and we will be bringing my mom back with us. I have tried to say how humid the weather is in Spain during August but does any one listen - NO !!! Why do they think we want to get away in August - oh well my mom will have to have cold showers. She was so disappointed when the volcanic ash reduced her two week holiday in Spain to only one in April- so she will be here for a couple of weeks then my sister will fly over and take her back.
Val - am thinking of you today . take care.
Great idea about having a discussion on here Bridget . perhaps we can pick a topic in the news and go from there.
Well I really must get my act together and do something - what I am not to sure about - still feel half asleep.
Bridget - hope your hubby will be feeling better soon and hope the British summer makes a come back.
Take care all
Love Mary xx
editted to add congrations Bridget and all your staff on your audit results xx

Good mornong everyone. Well now. is Summer weather now finished? I woke this morning here on the south east coast to a damp grey day and the miist isincreasing...even the segulls and gathering together and huddling. The air is very still and there isn't a sound to be heard apart from the birds. at least I can hear the songs of the birds even though I cannot tell what the birds are.
Val I thought about you when I woke this morning and simply want to say that your are in my quiet time each day and I say a prayer for you and your family and I shall add an etra few minutes thinking about you all. Take care of yourself. Ann what are you up to today and what is the weather like where you are? I was delighted when you came back on the thread as it is rather pleasant having electronic pen pals for that is how I think about eveyone who posts on here. I just had a thought, wonder of wonders....what about having a particular subject each week which we all disucuss? I look forwward to some responses...hopefully. Well that is all for the moment so have an enjoyable day and val a we shall all be thinking of you bye for now everyone, hope tp hear from you soon
Take care of yourselves

Ann in Glos great to see you back on this thread I had thought that perhaps it would simply fade away..I am delighted that is still going. As for the bees the person I had contact details of told me that he had spoken to someone at the Town Hall I think but they would not deal with it because it was the wrong type of bee!!!
Apparently they also said that their sting is mild,,,now that is a very strange statement as anyone has an allergy to bee stings can actually die from the stings.
Of course I can understand that they are needed for the ecology of the world and wish that they did not have to be killed but I was terrified and it reallly did feel as if I was in an Alfred Hitchcock film
anyway welcome back and lovely to hear from you.

Oops.sorry hadn't realised that this thread had been activated again, last time I looked it seemed dormant.
So sorry to read about your brother Val and will think of you Thursday at the funeral.
Bees in the lift sound horrid but perhaps instead of spraying and killing them the agent should have got somebody in to collect them. I was watching a programme on TV and bees are becoming endangered. If we lose all our bees we wont have any veg and fruit as we need them to pollinate, a bit extreme but they explained that it was quite possible that it could happen. So bees are valuable.
Sorry your OH is poorly Bridget, hope he recovers soon. Also sorry you are under the weather Tess, hope you also feel better soon.

To Val and MaryinSpain and anyone else who reads thia thread.
Val, I shall be thinking of you at the funeral and offering a prayer for your brother and everyone at the service.
OH is still rather low and has a dreadful cold and a high temperature but it is lower than at the weekend. He has always been the same about ill health, only had one day off from work in the whole of his career and that was when he collapsed in the street and suffered Adult Sudden Death! Fortunately it happend within about 600 metres from an ambulance station and so he was dealt with very quickly. He was hospitalised and then discharged himself 24 hours latter.... His mother was a Hypochondriac and this has left him being the direct opposite. He is not a believer so this is our only life and we live and then we die..thats it according to him.
I have learnt to accept this and he is an excellent husband and wondeful step father to my 4 children so what can I do .... On a happier note the sun has shone the mood of my colleagues is excellent following a wonderful Audit result and the auditor was there from 09,00hrs to 19.30 hrs result to day was that we achieved 85% The staff have worked so hard and I was thrilled for them.
Now you may be wondering why i didn't post earlier and that is because I forget to pay my 6 monthl tarrif to GR
Ah well never mind I am back now
Happiness to you all Bridget

Sorry to hear about your brother, Val. As you say, he is now out of pain, so you don't have to worry about him anymore. My thoughts will be with you on Thursday.
Will be watching the football, Spain v Potugal in a few minutes. I suppose that I should really suppor Spain, not just because a few people on here live (or have lived) in Spain, but also because I find that my greatgreatgrandmothers maiden name was (or seems to be ), Spanish! So looks like I have Spanish blood too. Will really have to sort out a passport so that I can visit Spain soon (perhaps next year). My passport is out of date, so can't go to many places at the moment.
Hope your OH feels better soon Bridget, and that your Bees have vamoosed. Encourage him to visit your GP after all, it might be something that is easy to sort out, giving him a new lease of life.

Goof morning Bridget I thought the same - you should and did post no. 500.
What a shock being stuck in the lift with bees - a month or so ago we were having a bbq on roof terrace and hubby said what on earth is that buzzing noise - on looking over the road a swarm of bees had settled on the roof od the house opposite. Paul went and told the Spanish lady and she phoned the council and out they came within the hour - and it was a Sunday too - it was interesting to see the man put up a ladder on the back of the truck up to the roof were he managed to get all the bees into a box.
Val . will be thinking of you on Thursday xx
Hope your OH is feeling better Bridget - if not make sure he gets to the doctors. Perhaps he is missing his home.
Well sorry must be off - got the dreaded ironing to do before it gets too hot.
Take care all Love Mary xx

Good morning all,
Although it is only 7.30 a.m. here it is quite warm already and this is supposed to be winter!!
I will be off to Grahamstown to-morrow for a few days, as my brother's funeral is on Thursday. I feel very unsettled at the moment but I'm sure that after Thursday that will pass.
I don't like bees either I must say, hope you are free of them now Bridget.
Hope your OH is feeling better now,,if not he should pay the doctor a vfisit.
Have just done the washing, so must go and hang it up. For two people we sure do have a lot of washing!!!!
Take care.

Bridget, perhaps, like me, most people thought that you should be posting number 500 on your own thread!
I'm afraid that I am like your OH at the moment, very low energy etc.
Sorry to hear about the bees, it must have been really scary. Have you managed to speak to the other people in the flats who were effected?
In your place I would put away (or cover) anything YELLOW I reckon that wasps are attracted to yellow things, not sure about bees. But it is bestto be on the safe side.
Still hot and sticky in the West Midlands (UK) Just hope that I can get a good nights sleep.
I'm off to give it a go anyway.
Tess

Hello everyone
I feel a little disappointed that I am the the person who registers the 500th message so know I am wondering if we will reach the 600th posting. I know several of you have had difficult times recently so writing on herereally is not in the priority liist and I hope that you are all coping. Others i expect are on holiday or simply caught up in daily and family life.
When I came home tonight as usual being rather lazy i got into the lift to go to the top floor well OK it is really only the scond floor!! as the lift started to move I cold hear a buzzing and looked up at the galss covering the light and it was full of BEES! I was terrified and could not stop the lift as it was mid floor. I could not get oouit of the lift fast enough and as I stepped out it was even worse the floor was covered in them ,some deadB UT others were very much alive. I immediatley telephoned the agent who told me that they had invaded two flats last night!!! He has visited and sprayed all likley places but I am not sure that I shall sleep tonight.
Anyone have any adivice or have the same reaction as me??
OH not very well he has been out off sorts for some days now and feels very lethargic so I hope it isn't anything to bad. He refuses to see a doctor and tells me he is a fatalist!! Going to look at some other threads now so hope to hear from someone soon
Blessyou all and keep welll

Good morning to you all. The Hog Roast. When I lived in Attleboruogh for about 2 years I started by living in Bed & Breakfast but quickly become friends with the owners and yes once again I was supposed to be here for 3 months anded ending staying for 2 years. Our now friends and the landlords said I could stay with them and just be one of the family. I quickly became involved in the local community including the local Rotary.
Each year a charity is chosen and the Rotarians have various events to raise funds and this year it was all about our serving soldiers,
Over the months there have been raffles, walks, quizz nights etc and yesterday was the last event The Hog Roast.
Fortunatly it was held in a world famous Nursery owned by Peter Beale who has been honoured across the world for his specialist knowledge of roses and he also develops new roses.
About 80 people came to the Hog Roast served in home made bread with home made apple sauce and of course the crackling. There was a raffle with some truly great prizes but I didn't win any, and a live band who were excellent. we were able to walk around the grounds with the perfume from the roses simply hanging in the air just enough to sense them but not overpowering. I met many people who knew from my days working here and they all still knew my name and I could not always remember theirs but they were so friendly and kept asking was I back here for good now. We raised £600 so that was added to the total and presented to the Army representive for "our boys" which brought a tear to my eyes as I thought of my serving son and all thoose other lads I know.
we came home and carried on partying until about 2am and then it was up he wooden stairs to bed.
Tonight we are having a BBQ for about 20 people so now I must go to buy the meat and salad This is in homour of my OH who had a birthday yesterday. The sunis shining it is beautiful weather so bye for now

Val Please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother. I will think of you and your family in my quiet time.
Mary in spain thanks for your reply to my "am I being mean" it is re-assuring, A friend has told me that here is a shop called Coast, well I think they are nationwide and she said they are reasonably priced so I will have a look on line and if I do not find anything I will wear what I described earlier.
we are out this evening for a HOG ROAST and a fund raising event organised by our friends to raise funds for a local charity so that shoul be fun. It is being held in a garden centre called Beales which is owned and run by Peter Beale a famous rose gardener, so it will be in a wonderful setting
Will write about it on my next posting Bye Bridget

Good afternoon all Val I am so sorry to hear about your brother - but he is at peace now and pain free and I am sure you have lots of happy memories.
Bridget I don't think you are mean - I would wear your navy dress and pink jacket and save your money for the church wedding outfit. When our eldest son got married I wore a navy suit I had bought for my sister's wedding - mind you did not have a lot of choice as he only gave us 12 hours notice . bless him !!!
Have a great weekend all and let's hope England and Spain come up trumps and win their next matches.
Love Mary xx

Hello, I'm here, but feeling sad as my brother who was in High Care for the past week gave up his battle early this morning. He was in such pain that I could not wish him back.
It is a perfect day here weatherwise, the holiday makers will be very happy. It's the time of the year for the Billabong surfing competition which I think is next week and the town is full of visitors.
Take care.
