We went to the auction for that house that was too far away for us. A couple older than us bought it... he went straight in with a bid for $750,000 and then there were negotiations and he ended up paying $830,000. Most of the properties at the auction got turned in... one was a farm and it got up to 6million but it was not enough.

We are still waiting for what we think will be the house for us.. we know the outside very well but the people who are selling first went to the agents to put it on the market in Feb, but then decided to paint it. Now they are nervous about selling.

Maybe a topper pad would soften the bed for Tec.. it can make a world of difference.

Must go have been up since before 7am, done a few things and now got to get ready to travel..

Bye Persie

Are you getting any further with finding a permanent home?

I have done something similar on the lawn here, but as it is a rental I am wondering why I am fussing about it. There was that many weeds here when we got here, I was really fighting a losing battle. I have been crawling around on hands and knees getting all the weeds out of the cracks in a block work area.. I sprayed them and then I had dead weeds there, they did not vanish. It should look a lot better when we leave than when we arrived though.

OH is amused when I check out the lawns when looking at houses. There was such a lot of weeds in Auckland and I am hoping where we get to will have decent grass.

I am watching OH out in the garden. He killed lots of patches of grass by putting strong weed kiler on them. It was just meant to kill the big patches of broad leaved weeds which were spreading throuh the grass, but it killed the grass as well. He tried putting seed on before we went away, but that didnt work either,so he has bitten the bullet and bought some rolls of turf

He is going round the garden cutting bits of dead grass out and putting new turf in. I hope it works this time

I moved the washing from the line a bit after 2pm and put it on my old wooden clothes airer that makes an eeeeccchhh noise when unfolded and folded.. put it out on the patio at the front and it got a lovely lot of sun so is aired.. and now I am going out to bring it all in and the sun is still shining.

Sorry you got drenched Linda.. we are in for a couple of fine days and the North Island lower west coasters have been mopping up. If you are not insured against flooding etc it can be a very expensive lesson. Wanganui was flooded several years ago but it really got carried away this time.

Black ice is a problem down Christchurch area. It has been snowing quite heavily down there. In 1967 when I was working in Dunedin we got about two days of a little flurry of snow, nothing like what happens now.

One thing that is different here this year is the number of mosquitoes and other little biters that we have around.

The city used to be free of them after a concerted effort back in the late 60s, 70s and 80s to spray (with DDT!!) all the breeding areas, but of course that has not been done for many years. So mosquitoes have gradually returned.

I'm getting bitten at least once a day INSIDE the house, and we have screens on all the windows and doors, except for the back door in the basement but that is open only when people go in and out, it is never left open.

I've always been "attractive" to mossies, but this is really getting beyond a joke ........ I only need to be outside for less than 2 minutes and I get bitten.

The little "no see'ums" are almost worse than the mossies!

one of OH's colleagues is just back from 2 weeks in Scotland .......... wet, windy and cold :-(

He let his partner do all the driving!

Our forecast is for a cloudy day on Wednesday, and then heating up again into next week.

There is no rain in the forecast :-(

It was lashing down here this afternoon, the first decent rain we have had for ages.i was taking a lady for a hospital appointment but I had to get her from her wheelchair into the car. I held an umbrella over her while she very slowly transferred, she was tutting because she was getting a bit wet. I was absolutely drenched by the time she got in

I have heard on the news about the dreadful flooding, Persie. Travel safely.

Thank you for the news Brenda - let's hope the nasty infection clears up very soon. I also remember our day together :-)

If we don't get the washing in by 3 in the afternoon it's damp again. It's sunny and breezy enough to dry everything if the washing goes out early enough.

The clothes will be all frozen and wet when you get them in

Surely you won't put your cold hands on your OH :-D

Persephone

Persephone Report 22 Jun 2015 22:44

Frost is all around this morning.. but I will be brave and go and hang the clothes out, then I will come back in with very very cold hands and annoy him.
It is sunny as on other side of house.

Off to Wellington tomorrow. :-) Hope no roads are closed. There has been lots of flooding with evacuations here and there.
