It is the start of a new week and it sees odd not to have a five year old buzzing about the place :-)

All is peaceful as OH is at the gym, it is nice to be able to relax for once. I have nothing planned for today which is wonderful after the last five weeks which have been frenetic

From the time my youngest was 13, our house was always full of young people, we were handy to the city, though some of the others also lived close to town.. Seemed that ours was the house of choice for sleep overs. As she got older, various friends stayed the night started with just girls and then we graduated to boys and girls.
If there were a lot of them there around dinner time of a Sunday night, I would set out lots of food, and a pile of plates and they could all help themselves.

We were always happy to have them there, and as my daughter rarely stayed a night at a friends, I always knew where she was.

I remember that my sister and her husband were staying at my house on that night Sylvia, it was on the news on the morning

I cleared the sticky handprints from the French doors this afternoon. When I asked Eve about it on Skype tonight, she denied they were hers, so we decided that grandad must have done it. I told her that I would tell him off when he came back from the allotment, that put a great big grin on her face

it's cloudy and showery again today, with the sun due to appear again later.

Today would have been my brother's 86th birthday, he died when he was 61 :-(

My daughter never asked to have more than one friend to stay, nor did she go to sleepovers ....... it seemed not to be on the radar in her group of friends. They did like to come for the evening, and to have Dessert Parties, but they all went home afterwards!

The closest we got was when OH's sister, husband (before he died) and 3 kids came through here in late August to do their Back-to-School shopping in the big city.

Somehow we managed to fit 4 or 5 extra people in our house, and there would be 2 extra girls in daughter's bedroom ....... the son had to sleep in the basement with his parents :-)

The 4 of them were here the night Princess Diana was killed ............ we were sleeping in the basement, sis-i-l was in our bedroom, her son was in daughter's room, and the 3 girls were supposed to be sleeping in the room where the TV is, only they were watching it............... so the adults all got woken up when the news came on

If it sounds strange that we were not in our bedroom ............ we'd been away, leaving daughter at home, and sis-i-l had arrived several days before us, daughter made up our bed for her, and they then stacked all their new things in our bedroom!!

It was easiest for us to move downstairs!

I remember them well too :-(

It was a sunny day today but not very warm. OH sowed seeds into seed trays - cucumber, radishes, lettuce and tomatoes. Lovely fresh salads coming up :-)

I sowed sunflower seeds as the flowers attract the birds - mostly lorikeets. I also sowed some Kangaroo Paw seeds that I was given. I don't know how they will go but it's worth a try.

Oh the dreaded sleep overs I remember them so well :-(

It was fine when they only had one friend but birthdays with a room full of them were terrible

It has been warm here for the last few days Sue, not before time I should add. Summer as finally started

Notice that I have ignored the Ashes comment :-|

It's good to hear Esme is coming along well.

It's very chilly and below average temps for this time of year. Everyone is longing for the warmer weather. Everything in the garden is slow. OH hasn't planted anything in the veggie garden yet although it is ready to go.

The twins had two friends each for a sleepover on Friday night instead of a birthday party. My daughter has just rang to say that they are still getting over it :-D. So glad I wasn't there :-D

I am pleased that Esme is progressing, she will just motor along at her own pace but having Eve around must help her in her learning phases.

Speaking of sticky handprints, a while ago we were at one of our rentals with builder as we are going to make changes. The people there keep it looking reasonably tidy and clean (unlike the previous tenants that were disgustingly messy) but they don't seem to notice that doorway architraves need cleaning they all have grubby handprints on them.

When we had Nutty (the cat) he would stand on his hind legs and bang away with his paws all over the glass of the French doors.. I did offer him a cloth, when the sun shone in there the glass looked terrible. I was forever cleaning the same pane.

I took Eve back home yesterday and came back during the evening

OH had spent the day clearing the house and returning it to adult mode

Today I did quite a bit if housework, but I still need to remove the sticky hand prints from the French doors

Esme is coming on well Persie..I only saw her very briefly yesterday when her mum pulled up in the car just as I was leaving to come home..when she opened the car door and said it was grandma, Esme started waving at me. She is starting to stand holding onto the sofa and is trying to walk with a walker, she has very poor upper body strength though. She has just had an assessment which put her general development as 12 months, although she has just had her second birthday

She still won't eat, she knows what food is, she will dig a spoon in a yogurt pot and feed her mum for instance, but she isn't interested herself

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Aug 2015 11:05

Esme is doing well, she is at home going to nursery as normal. We only have Eve because it is the six weeks of school summer holiday

We are on the train on the way to London. Her parents are using holiday next week to look after her

How is Esme getting on Linda... I hope she was not subjected to Viking poo as well. I thought it bad enough when they handed me what the little morepork regurgitated.. They like to eat their warm mice but send the feet and tails back in a little ball. I suppose I should not complain as I was right up close and personal to him or was it her.

it would be too much for me :-D

The weather has cooled off here, so it is now about normal temperature for August, and we had some rain yesterday :-D

Lovely sunny morning here although very fresh. There are some signs of Spring here but not much.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 6 Aug 2015 20:31

If only we had time Sue :-(

We went to an Rspb bird reserve today. It has an excellent cafe and adventure playground

Then we went to the nearby beach, I paddled while she ran in and out of the sea, it was freezing, but she had a good time. I paddled, but OH wimped out

she is in bed now and we get the train at 10am tomorrow, I should be back home by 10pm

We get a week off then have to go down to London to look after her down there for a week. That was only supposed to be for a few days, but has turned into the whole week :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 6 Aug 2015 11:52

You will obviously need to have a holiday before too long. A relaxing by the pool holiday.

We've been to the Jorvik museum - it's very good. Viking poo? Can't say I held a piece of that.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 6 Aug 2015 10:43

I am just an exhausted grandma Sue. We were out yesterday, we went to DIG in York and played at being archaeologists, Eve got to hold some real Viking poo! We then went to the Jorvik museum

She is watching a dvd at the moment before we go out again today, she goes home tomorrow :-D
