Linda - you really shouldn't be doing things like that :-|

I have also had a busy day today. I did some training of new volunteers this morning. Tidied up the office because it was a mess and then went to a meeting for the afternoon. I'm tired but satisfied :-)

Oh dear me, I took the other lady to the dentists, but never again. She was very nice, but fairly weighty (as I am). She could only walk by shuffling her feet, so I had to take her to the car in a wheelchair. By getting it next to the car, she could stand up and turn round, then sit on the car seat. Several of our clients are like that, but they then get their legs in and swivel themselves around. This lady couldn't lift her legs at all,she had no feeling in them, it looked like bad cellulitis for a start. Poor thing, her legs were like tree trunks and weighed a ton. I had to lift them up and push them round into the car. She can only take her weight on one arm,so was no help in swivelling her body round. When we got to the dentist I had to lift her legs out and haul her round so she could get out. It was the same on the way back, even worse because she didn't sit far enough into the car,so when I turned her,she was almost laying back. I looked at her and wondered what I was going to do because she was so hefty.

I managed, but when I got home my back was really aching and still is this morning. She needs one of those swivelling car seats at least. She is a new client and has another appointment next week, which I couldn't do as it clashes with an appointment of my own. I will warn the car scheme tomorrow when they reopen as in comparison to lots of our volunteers, I am one of the more able bodied ones

When you said you had the children for tea, I thought you meant that you had eaten them :-0

Any home made chutney tastes better than shop stuff.

I have just taken an old lady back from her day centre visit, she was a bit pongy, so I think I had better spray the car before I pick up another one soon to take her to the dentist

OH said "did you have to tell us that", Linda. Your chutneys beat any that can be bought.

Another nice day today. This evening we have the children for tea. They all decided that chicken was to be on the menu - so chicken it was.

I made a huge amount of red tomato chutney today Sue

I still have the kitchen to spring clean, but the rest of the house is done. I thought I would do the chutney first as it makes things sticky.

I still have green tomatoes in the fridge, so I will probably make more chutney later in the week. There is very little left from last year, but the new stuff will need to mature for about three months until it is ready

Hello everyone :-D

No surprise there Linda - I think we all guessed it was a stroke. Hopefully Tec's daughter will be able to get some home help in place. Poor Tec can't afford to lose any weight :-(

The weather has been lovely here - sunny and warm. Perfect Spring weather..

I too have been spring cleaning. It's nice to be able to open the windows during the day and let lots of fresh air in. Yesterday I polished the wood furniture with wood oil. I love doing that job and the furniture looks so nice.

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Sep 2015 21:19

thank you, Linda.

I think we had all begun to think that it had to be a stroke.

Now, I hope he will begin to eat well, and continue to eat well after his daughter goes home.

I wonder if one of the neighbours would pitch in???

It is hard to get food ready for yourself when you are not feeling well, all too easy to snack or not eat at all :-(

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2015 15:01

I spoke to Tec's daughter today, but not to him as he was too tired. She is still there with him full time.

She said they had confirmed that it had been a stroke, but that he had been lucky, if you could call it that because it had just affected his speech. He is still well enough in himself and can transfer from his wheel chair etc as he did before.

He has had one lot of speech therapy, he will have one every fortnight. She has been trying to find out from social services what help he can get, but said that it is pretty hopeless. She hopes to have something in place in a couple of weeks, so maybe she is making other arrangements. Apparently he had not been making himself good meals,so she wants to make sure he has a proper meal each night

I hope that she can find someone who will be able to take care of him as I know he was too tired to do much himself

I told her that I would let his fans know how he is, so she laughed.

I have been a busy bee this afternoon. I made lots of green tomato chutney. I started off by chopping up 4kg of red onions and 4kg of green tomatoes from the allotment. It makes a very dark brown chutney similar to Branston.

I have 4kg of red tomatoes in the fridge waiting to be turned into chutney in a couple of days. There are still more green tomatoes, so I may make some more of that next week. The tomatoes probably would have ripened for a bit longer, but I wanted to get the chutney done before we go away

OK who opened the heavens just as we went out. I had to get changed once I got back

I don't normally comment on politics, but I think the result of the Labour Party election is hilarious, but extremely worrying at the same time. Here we go again in the grip of the unions. Luckily they are totally un electable

Well what do you know, the sun stayed out and the wind blew and all was dry in no time at all. Did another lot today and got that dry as well and we were supposed to be having thunderstorms.

We are heading south tomorrow, a night at Palmerston North and then on to Wellywood to help out with the boys. Son-in-law is off to Melbourne tomorrow on one of his seismology whatever for a few days and he will be back Friday. He usually does the crèche run on the way home from work and if he can he will start dinner or bath the boys. Stellan is full on and is all over the place.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Sep 2015 17:02

That is bound to make it rain Persie :-)

I did another community drive to the hospital this morning. I am sure that the staff in the out patients department must think that I am the unhealthiest person on the planet because I am always there

I did lots more of my spring cleaning this afternoon. All I have left to do is the kitchen, but that can wait for another day

I tell you what I will do a load of washing and see what happens.

oh dear, Linda

I hope they all get better soon.

Eve only went back to school last Thursday and she is already off with a flu type bug. My daughter has it as well, she sounded dreadful when I spoke to her at tea time. They Facetimed ( skyped) about 10 pm because Eve was awake. Poor little mite looked poorly She and mummy are sleeping together tonight.

Daddy is fine so far and Esme hasn't got it, although my daughter said she was grumpy, so she may be coming down with it. Esme was supposed to be doing an overnight sleep study at the hospital tonight, but they have had to cancel it because my daughter is too ill to go

I am glad that I am at the other end of the country
