I finally had to give in and go to see the quack.
Crackles in one lung and inflammation in the membrane, so now I am on antibiotics. It is very painful, so I hope they kick in soon

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Nov 2015 09:57

That sounds drastic Huia, I hope you manage to stem the leak until you can find a permanent solution

Sadly these things happen more often as our friends get older Sylvia

I have a very bad astigmatism as well One eye is fine, but with the other, vertical lines have a bulge in the middle. If I need something cutting in a straight line, I ask OH as my results are always at an angle

On the other hand ..............

our little grandson won a monthly Community Character Award at school for "Fairness"

and got his first monthly report. The kindergarten get ratings like Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor etc for how they are achieving.

He got all Good or Excellent, except for one Fair in fine motor skills ....... that means he needs to work on it. But we already knew he is poor with them.

He has just been diagnosed with severe astigmatism .......... eyesight good, but astigmatism bad, however that works!! He has just got glasses to help ....... so hopefully fine motor skills will also now improve.

Huia .................. good luck!!!

Linda ............. excellent idea.

This has not a very good few days.

We learnt that our friend on the island has some health problems which may be serious

Then yesterday I learnt that my brother's widow is now unable to walk or speak, in her own little world, and has 8 carers a day coming in. She is in her own flat in a care home, so at least not just in a room. She was 85 last March, but may not see Christmas. :-(

I have a big problem. The storm we had the other night was the last straw for a slight crack in our concrete rainwater tank and now it has a leak. I have spent the morning trying to find who can fix it. Any Aussies able to do it, Sue? I should be at the shop by now, but I might be late. I will go to Bunnings or Mitre 10 Mega and see if they can provide me with a gooby which will do the job temporarily while I search the whole world for an expert. In the meantime I need to keep the water level in the tank low, so please dont send us any more cloud bursts, Sue. I have drained the tank almost down to the level of the leak, which is about 3 ft from the bottom of the tank. Better get going now.

I think we should sink a pipe down to Australia, our cold air could sink down it and their warm air would rise up to us :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 22 Nov 2015 17:36

same here, Linda

It is going to be slightly warmer during the day than yesterday, with some rain possible tomorrow ............. but then we get an Arctic Front coming down, with possible "s" over Monday night and Tuesday, and temperatures down to -14C when the wind chill factor is added in. That will last for about 5 days ............ a long time for us here in the balmy southwest of the province :-(

You get weather from the North, we get an Arctic Front :-)

Board shorts and flip flops, what is the world coming too :-0

It is absolutely nithering here. The heating is on full blast and I am pottering around catching up on odd jobs

SueMaid Report 22 Nov 2015 09:24

Well of course I do but one has to go out of the house on occasion - especially if one wants to eat :-0

Santa is fine in Oz because he changes into board shorts and an Hawaiian shirt. He also wears flip-flops and a straw hat. Very stylish :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 22 Nov 2015 08:22

You need snow at Xmas, so Santa can feel at home :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Nov 2015 22:28

so did I :-D

It is a balmy 7C in mid-afternoon .................. in the sun

Overnight, it went down to -2 or -3C

The "s" word appeared in the forecast for the city for later next week.

The mountains have already had a good dumping of snow, and some of the ski hills have opened this weekend, others will be opening next weekend.

One of the ski hills has already had more snow than it had all last winter :-0

It is supposed to be a big El Nino winter ............... but past El Ninos have shown that we get snow before Christmas, then warmer temperatures and rain afterwards.

I am glad it is cooler for you Sue, but I thought you just sat in your air conditioned house sipping the cool drinks supplied by your OH

SueMaid Report 21 Nov 2015 21:39

Sounds very chilly to me, Linda. It has cooled down to a pleasant 22C after heatwave conditions that spread across the whole of Australia. I lost a few plants but on the whole the garden did well - unlike me.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Nov 2015 13:13

It is a balmy four degrees outside, but with the wind chill it is minus one. We are just back from the market place and some of the parked cars had snow on them, having come down from the hills

I was glad to get back home

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Nov 2015 21:43

I don't like the sound of that outward journey Sylvia, coming back sounds better

I got back home this afternoon, when I got off the train, I couldn't believe how cold it was compared to London. It us bitterly cold outside as the wind has turned round to come down from the north, we have had an unseasonably warm November so far.

I am really tired, so I have been dozing on the sofa since I got back, I can't wait to go to get into my nice comfy bed tonight.

Hi everyone

Sue ....... sorry to hear about the bush fires. That's a little early in the year for them, isn't it?

We had an early start to our fire season here this year, and it also lasted for longer than usual.

Linda ..... safe trip home

It was a mixed trip.

The ferry ride over was "interesting" ...... pouring rain and high winds meant we were under "heavy weather conditions". There was no access to the open decks for passengers, and we had to move around "with caution".

It wasn't actually as bad as we have seen, but bad enough!

The pouring rain lasted practically all day .......... the reservoirs were well-filled, to overflowing in fact. And that led to a Boil Water Advisory being instituted at midnight on Tuesday due to the high level of "turbidity" ............ ie, soil particles higher than allowed. That was still in effect when we left yesterday.

We went to a local supermarket to buy some bottled water, and the clerk directed us to a "special offer" ........ 1 litre bottles at a Buy One Get One Free deal ....... so we got 2 1 litre bottles for $2 (or less than £1).

Yesterday was a glorious day as we sailed home .............. chilly, but sunny and with blue skies. We now have an Arctic Front over us, which means sun, blue skies, and cold temperatures for the next few days.

We were with our friend every day, she invited one couple for dinner on Monday, another couple to join us at a restaurant on Wednesday night .............. both couples are friends of ours as well.

She was also extremely naughty ........ and paid most of the hotel bill for us. All I had to do was pay the meals. When I talked to her later, she said "I have no-one to spend my money on, except for on my friends. So why not?"

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Nov 2015 13:42

It isn't hot here, just lots of horrible rain

I had to take Eve to the hospital this morning for a hearing test, so we got nicely wet

She is fine, and the taxi driver gave her a lollipop so she had a good morning

I just have one more night before I can go home, yay!

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 19 Nov 2015 01:54

Page 3 girls again ladies - woohooo ;-)

Very hot here at the moment . A heatwave across the country and dreadful bushfires in Western Australia where sadly 4 people died.

It is difficult to keep house when both parents are working but as you say Linda - more so when a child needs extra care. My daughter's house is always untidy but she keeps the bathrooms and kitchen clean.

Nice to hear that our Tec is doing so well - thanks as always for passing on the news, Linda.

Hope everyone is keeping well <3

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Nov 2015 11:23

All is quiet, the girls are at school and nursery and daddy is at work, so I have the house to myself.

Every where I look, I see jobs which need doing,so I am slowly but surely plodding through them. My Daughter does her best with the housework, but as she works full time, when you then factor in all the extra care which looking after Esme entails, I am amazed she keeps the as well as she does

I spoke to Tec earlier n, he is doing remarkably well. His brother is coming tomorrow, then his daughter will be back on Wednesday for a couple of days. He was trumping about the fact that one of his sisters has announced that she is coming for a week early in December, he said it would be nice to have been asked

He had several hospital appointments coming up, but his GP looked at them and said that given the situation, they were unnecessary, so she told him to cancel all of them He is really pleased that he doesn't have to travel to any of them

Well this won't get the housework done,so it is onwards and upwards :-(
