It has gone very quickly Sylvia. I often think of her because her name is still on my games list.

The weather has been atrocious, but we haven't had as much rain as the west coast. The river through the town was on flood alert but the new defences they built a couple of years ago have done their job. When we first moved here, the centre of the town flooded most years

I still have a couple of days of my second lot of antibiotics to finish. My ribs still feel sore but are better than they were

I don't believe that!

Is it really a year since we lost Berona?

lordy, how the time has flown by this year!

Can you believe it's a year since we lost our dear Berona - I bet she is still practicing the tango. Keep dancing lovely lady <3

hunkering down???

you've had some awful weather in the UK

we've got wave after wave of Pacific storms dropping lot of rain and high winds over us for the next few days ................

not sure what Sue has down under, but I wish she'd stop sending it over here :-)

Where has everyone gone?

We went to see Spectre tonight, a typical Bond film, but at least the girl lived this time

Doh, when I went into town this morning, I managed to leave all the Xmas cards at home, so will have to post them on Monday.

As we walked home I saw that a new dress agency had finally opened its doors, the sort that sells your clothes for you and takes 50% for doing it. They seemed to have some nice things, but mainly smaller sizes. I asked about the rates and they seemed very keen when I said that I had some Jacques Vert suits I no longer wanted. So i sorted lots of my good labelled stuff out and took it in this afternoon. I took four suits in including the one I wore to go to the palace. I will see what sells

Now I have room to go shopping again :-D :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 4 Dec 2015 18:30

That sounds good Sue, you could sit under it as well

I have spent the day writing the Xmas cards. I walked into town to post some which needed to go. I dint feel too bad, so the new antibiotics must be working. All of the cards are ready to go now,so I am pleased. I only have the local ones which don't need posting to do

All I have to do is buy presents now.

I'm so sorry to hear your bad news Sylvia - always sad to get news like that :-(

What a shame you didn't get the house, Persie. How can a house be too posh?!?

I hope you and Eve are feeling better soon, Linda. How silly to send an unpleasant letter to Eve's parents re her attendance. If she had been sent to school they would have had to go pick her up anyway so what's the point?

OH has been busy building a shade house for my ferns. A local fern nursery that has been around for over 30 years closed down recently. As we have been regular customers OH offered to help take the structures down and came home with several poles and shade cloth....and a plan. It's looking good :-D

A place can never be too posh for me :-D :-D :-D

Persephone Report 3 Dec 2015 10:57

We could have gone higher but I think that would have been stupid and we would have needed modernising etc..

There have been a few nice places we have seen some with excellent kitchens. Either too posh for us, or needed adding to or not close enough to town etc.

I think the other couple were probably relieved when we stopped bidding. Couldn't justify the expense though if we had been the last bidder before them but we would have had to live with that.
:-) :-) :-S :-S

LindainHerriotCountry Report 3 Dec 2015 09:48

Oh I am sorry you didn't get it Persie, I liked the look of it and had great plans for modernising it

Persephone

Persephone Report 3 Dec 2015 07:48

I am floating around..

Good to see Tec has still got either his sense of humour or the ability to be rather irritated.

We still have not got a house.. went to auction today. There was a lot of people there but only us and another couple were doing the bidding until it got silly so we bowed out. They also want the place for their retirement and want to bring it into this century and live there till they leave this planet.

Because we had an interest we got the building inspector to check it out and contact the lawyer etc so that is two large bills we have to pay but way less than the over the odds price we would have been paying for a view. Our Real Estate agent told us that the place is a bit of an icon and had often been asked about it, however as there were only us and the other couple bidding seems the rest were either neighbours or it was out of their price range.

Get better quickly Linda. Hope Eve's health improves and she is able to show them how good she is.

You don't have to send a note from the doctor, but they must ring or email on the morning when the child is ill to let them know they won't be coming in
In the old days, the parents just sent a note in with the child explaining why they had been off, on their return to school

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Dec 2015 22:16

Glad to hear that you have another course of antibiotics. Hope this lot clears up the infection ((xx))

I'd heard that the UK schools were being very strict about absences ...... but that sounds more like a letter aimed at parents allowing their children to miss school for holidays, not for a child who is sick!

Did the parents have to send a note from the doctor when children are sick?

I think you are correct about kindergarten ............ I know OH took our daughter back to the UK for 3 weeks when she was in kindie, but that was only 5 half-days. Now it's full time kindie, and they do seem to be trying to teach more than was the case here so many years ago.

Plus of course, they are in a different province, and each province has different rules and regulations. It isn't like England where all the schools in every county operate under more or less the same regulations.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Dec 2015 20:30

I got a second lot of antibiotics, but different from the first ones, so I hope they help finish the bugs off

I don't think they are that strict in kindergarten about the attendance. Once they start proper school, here, they are very strict.

Eve had three days off because she was vomiting and had diarrhea, then two weeks later, she had two days off because she had a very high temperature. This is all in the first half term, par for the course after the children all get back together after the summer break. Her parents have had a letter from the school warning them that if her attendance falls any further, she will be put on a weekly attendance monitoring scheme. I saw the letter, which was written in a very nasty threatening manner. Needless to say her parents are spitting tacks and were composing a letter in return. All the school had to do was to look at last yeas attendance and they would have seen that it was very good

Hi

Hope you get some more treatment by visiting the doctor.

Worst is that our friend has given us strict instructions that we are not yet to tell our daughter ............... who was her husband's goddaughter, and is close to her. She doesn't want daughter to come dashing out here. I'm hoping that daughter will be able to come in May as she has for the last couple of years .... but that is not as easy as it was as the littlie is now in school. It is "only" Kindergarten this year, so maybe he can miss 3 or 4 days

Oh dear Sylvia, that is bad news, at least you will all be able to be together and make it a special time

Tec was nagging me yesterday to make another doctors appointment, so I have and I am going this morning. To be fair, I did try to make one yesterday, but there weren't any left

d**n d**n d**n

all tests are showing that our friend has pancreatic cancer :-(

she has a biopsy scheduled for Dec 15 which will confirm and determine which stage ........ but the doctors seem to be talking months rather than years.

she will spend Christmas at the hotel with us :-)

I think it will be rather a bitter-sweet time

Hi

Linda ............ thank you for the information about Tec. I hope his sister's cooking outweighs the other feelings :-)

It rained today ........ and was several degrees warmer.
