We have just spent ages on the phone renewing our car insurance with a different company. It would be so easy if we could do it on line, but we end up having to ring them to make sure that we are covered for the voluntary driving we do.
The volunteer bureau need to see proof that you have told the insurance company, but they don't include it as standard on their policy wording.

For goodness sake, there must be thousands of volunteers who need the same thing. Of course having taken out the new policy, when you ring the old company, they tell you that you are a valued customer and they don't want to lose you. In that case, they should have provided a cheaper renewal quote in the first place grrr..

I hope your son gets his residence permit Sue, I am sure you will pass the vetting :-D I can see lots of trips to America coming up, you won't need my tent anymore

The tree had to come down before twelfth night, so I thought that I would get on with it. My chest is getting a bit better every day, so I am finally on the mend I think.

I spoke to Tec yesterday, his cough sounds better as well. The nebuliser he is using several times as day is really helping him, so he is going to keep it for the long term. He said that before he got it, everything left him breathless, but now he can manage much better. His daughter is coming back tomorrow, so she is going to take his tree down for him

Good to see you Sylvia :-)

I thought you weren't going to take the tree down Linda :-| You're supposed to be taking it easy.

It is raining and quite cool for January here. Some flooding in some area - bushfires in other areas. That's Australia.

Getting back to normal? I'm always glad to see the silly season finish although Christmas Day is enjoyable. The tree will come down today or tomorrow...maybe.

We're on the countdown for our son going to America. He will be there for 3 months where he will line up some work through contacts he has made at Uni. He also has to begin the paperwork so he can stay and marry his fiancé. Then he will come home to finish the paperwork here. It's involved but there is no reason for him to be denied residence in the U.S. We will then have a wedding to look forward to. We have spoken a few times to our new step-grandchildren who are polite and delightfully chatty :-)

I saw the thread, it looked interesting. I used to do lots of look ups in the good old days, but there are very few posts these days

I have had a busyish day. I took the tree down this morning, that was hard going, I was shattered by the time I had put everything away. The we worked the cinema matinee which was a children's film, so it was fairly well attended

Cheeky Sue :-D :-D :-D

I think I saw Sylvia posting on another thread yesterday

I am feeling a bit better every day. I need to take the Xmas tree down really, but we have to do a children's matinee at the cinema this afternoon, so I am not sure if I can be bothered with the tree as well

Hello everyone :-)

Linda - I do worry about you but you must be feeling better. Lunch sounds wonderful - so much nicer that the beans on toast you gave us.

Huia - I hope you're taking it easy :-|

Good to see you posting Tec. I'm pleased the nebuliser is helping :-)

Where's Sylvia?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Jan 2016 21:34

The nebuliser sounds a very good idea Tec, I will be round to borrow it in the morning :- :-D

Seriously, I am glad that it is helping your breathing My cough is getting better, but just slowly, but it still has a long way to go

Lunch went well, I made a veggie pie with puff pastry, leeks, onions, mushrooms and Gruyere cheese and creme fraiche. It is my current favourite lunch. My sister in law isn't very keen on lots of onions, so I made some filo pastry tarts with bacon, potato, cheese and cream as well. Not bad considering I am not well :-D

Hope that you are feeling better today Linda, and that lunch with your brother went well.
My brother and SIL are visiting tomorrow, although the weather forecast is awful.

Yesterday my nurse arranged for the doctor to issue me with a nebuliser to use four times daily, for 15 minutes

It's very effective and my breathing is so much easier. As it is the New Year, they had to borrow one from the hospital until the chemist can order one. The machine is quite noisy, but 15 minutes is soon passed.

Don't overdo it Huia,

Tec. :-)

It is good that your children are able to help you Huia. Workshops/garages are a nightmare to sort out. It took my OH and brother months to empty my fathers accumulation after mum died and we had to sell the house.

I had better get my act together as my brother and his wife are coming for lunch, I need to do some cooking, but can do most of the prep early on, so can spend more time chatting to them

Huia

Huia Report 2 Jan 2016 04:51

Myfriend took 1 and a half big rubbish bags full of clothes away with her, some to toss out but most to put in the shop. I still have heaps of clothes!

Son came up from Rotorua last night. He has been bullying me into getting rid of stuff. I know it needs doing. We discarded a lot of music tapes, and most of my CDs (music) are going to the Hospice, along with most of my old music records. Daughter also visited this afternoon and we were all joking around. They packed up some "family historic" bits that I am not allowed to take to the shop. Son is down in the workshop going through the mess there and tossing stuff into a heap for ditching. I hope to get my dinner soon. (He took me shopping this morning so I could stock up on enough of every thing to last me a month. )

As you are grounded, I hope you will have more time to post Huia. Did you get your wardrobe thinned out?

OH has gone to check on the cinema, so I have been doing a bit of pottering and tidying up. I need a sit down though, I am wheezing like a couple of hundred a day smoker. I do feel a bit better this morning, so hopefully am on the mend

You can turn the lights out in that case Sylvia

Just been talking to Eve and her mummy on Skype, they are having a "toe nail painting party" Eve does her mummies, so they end up thick and lumpy, but they are having fun.

Sue .....

Happy New Year xxx

Did you manage to stay up for it?

We still have all day to wait for ours ................. and the weather is sun, blue skies, and below freezing. brrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm getting on OK, with my bland diet and no caffeine, no major upsets since that one before Christmas. I have to see my own doctor and then wait for the appointment with the specialist.
