Happy Birthday Tec - hope you had a lovely day <3
It's Australia Day here today (Tuesday). Not much happening because it's raining. We've been busy doing some renovations in the house. OH decided to replace the old skirting boards in the house. Messy job but after each room is finished it gets a good clean so that works for both of us. Who knows why our men suddenly get the urge to change something around the house or garden but I'll go with it :-D
A year of holidays sounds good to me, Linda...enjoy :-D

I have just booked yet another holiday This time a weeks break to Centre Parcs for a family holiday in August. Costing an arm and a leg because it is in the school holidays. It is going to be non stop holidays this year, but the first proper one is not until may, so I can probably fit something else in before then :-D
Back to the mundane, there is a duster with my name on it :-(

I agree .............
but I knew nothing about this family except what B told me!
I did know her mother and father because we met them occasionally, and I knew her mother had a Scottish accent, but her father's accent was "general", and anyway, he never spoke very much!
I'm guessing that she herself didn't know that her father was born in Lancashire, and that his grandparents came from Ireland!

Family stories should always be totally disregarded in my experience :-(

the lancashire opc site is excellent, and I've always found it a huge help for my own family!
I must admit that it was a bit of a shock when it was found sis-i-l's father was from a Lancashire family though, as she was always adamant that they were all Scottish, and her mother and father were the first to move down south.
Only her mother's family was firmly rooted in Greenock!
we're always cautioning others about believing family stories!!

It is still cold here. I did Meals on Wheels at lunchtime when the rain was hammering down
I have a severe headache courtesy of Tecs tree ,but some good progress has been made
There are lots of good lancashire records on line now, so you are lucky Sylvia. I have always found the Lancashire opc site to be very good

Hi Sue
warm and damp here, soon going to be warm and wet :-(
I was having a go at my sis-i-law's family last night ........... that's my brother's widow.
She was born in Greenock, then they moved down to Lancashire. She maintained the family was Scottish.
I could never find anything, then an ex-member found her parents marriage certificate on Scottish People, and very kindly used his credits to get a copy for me. Following the parents named on that showed that her father had been born in Lancashire. :-0
It seems that his family went from Ireland to Liverpool, and then to other parts of Lancashire. His father died early, he joined the navy as a boy in 1912, but left in 1918 and sometime after that ended up in Greenock where he met and married sis-i-l's mother.
I was trying to sort out the Lancashire part last night.
Sue ............. I'm doing well thank you, but getting bored with the bland diet.
I have a consultation with the specialist on April 4, then I guess it will be another wait to have the endoscopy done.

Hello :-)
Good luck finding more info about Tec's relatives. I've come to a standstill with a couple of people but they aren't really my direct line so I've put them on hold.
The 1939 register is interesting but doesn't really tell me a great deal more than I already know.
Very warm here already so we have a hot day coming up with thunderstorms :-(
Are you over your nasty cough, Linda?
Hope you are well, Sylvia.

I have just had an email from FMP saying that as a valued customer, that from Feb 12th they are giving me unlimited look ups on the 1939 register as part of my subscription. Good but annoying as I have not long ago bought loads of credits to view. It
Any way that means I can look for all of your families if you haven't already got them.

Just after posting I read this
Findmypast and sister site Mocavo Come Together Findmypast aims to deliver a more focussed, efficient and comprehensive service to US family historians The move is part of Findmypast’s plans for continued expansion in the US Leading family history website Findmypast, has today announced that sister site Mocavo will be incorporated into Findmypast to create a single experience for customers interested in discovering more about their family history. The move forms an important part of the US growth strategy set out by Annelies van den Belt, CEO of Findmypast, and will bring the best aspects and features of both sites into one place. The two websites are currently working together to transfer Mocavo’s strengths and expansive record collections over to Findmypast. The transition will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within the next few months. The move is part of Findmypast’s continued expansion and growth in the US market. By merging the two brands, Findmypast will create a more focussed and efficient business that will offer a more comprehensive experience to US customers while continuing to offer the industry’s best British and Irish collections. In 2016, Findmypast will also be publishing hundreds of millions of new and exclusive US records to further enhance the experience for US family historians. As part of Findmypast’s commitment to sustain Mocavo’s ‘free forever’ promise, Mocavo subscribers will continue to enjoy free access to all of the same records that were previously published for free on Mocavo. In addition, they will be invited to take advantage of a subscription to Findmypast equivalent to their existing Mocavo subscription. Mocavo customers can easily import their family trees onto Findmypast and can immediately start to receive hints opening the door to new discoveries that they never knew existed. A subscription to Findmypast will allow them access to the site’s entire collection of records, containing over eight billion names, as well as the thousands of new records released by Findmypast every week. Annelies van den Belt, CEO of Findmypast, said; “A key part of our 2016 US growth strategy is to centralise our efforts on one core brand, Findmypast. Combining Mocavo’s strengths and Findmypast’s massive collection of British and Irish data will allow us to provide a richer and more comprehensive experience to family historians all over the world.”

I have no problem getting in via my book mark which takes me to the general board. I often get the error after I submit the post but I know that it has always posted, so I just come out and go back in again
I think GR will wind down as they concentrate more on FMP which is where they make the money selling the records. The only thing FMP doesn't have which its arch rival Ancestry dies is an ability to put your tree on it. I think that GR was supposed to provide that facility for them, but they haven't really marketed it correctly. I wonder if at some stage they will absorb the tree storage bit from here into FMP
I am currently spending my time up Tecs tree, he has one particularly difficult set of grandparents. I had tried to help him a couple of years ago but it was like wading through treacle The new 1939 records have been great, although they have opened, or confirmed a can of worms. I have finally found the correct death and probate for his grandfather, so I am going to start from scratch on them. Not that I expect to get very far as poor Tec has spent hour after hour on them over the years

You are more or less reiterating me Sylvia in that GR can not keep its house in order.
I have clicked on the top of the page for this one and will start all over again.

I click on GR in my Bookmarks, then move around the Boards.
I usually start with My Threads so I can catch up on threads that I'm interested in ............... but I have only been able to get the Error message for the past week, and it never opens.
so I go to the individual Boards.
