Boy it is cold out there. We are just back from the market, I could hardly stop running on the way there because of the wind on my back. Coming back was even worse trying to walk into it

It is storm Gertude, that was my mums name, so I must have done something to displease her :-(

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Jan 2016 14:59

Doing a voluntary drive to the hospital an hour away I have been sitting in the waiting room for two and a half hours so far, I am losing the will to live

My baby boy is 37 today, where has the time gone. It seems like yesterday when I first held him in my arms and looked into his eyes

It isn't out of range for here ................ I don't know about the UK

It does translate to about £20-22 for the parts, and about £65 for labour

OH won't touch electricity, apart from changing light bulbs :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Jan 2016 22:22

That is a lot of money Sylvia, especially the cost of a short bit of pipe.
Luckily OH is OK at basic plumbing, we only need to get someone in if it is a big job.

I want an extra outside light for when we come home in the dark, It is quite a long walk down the side of the house and at the moment there is a gap between the two lights we we have. He is going to put it in tomorrow, he will just take a spur from a current light and put a switch in the new line as well. These days, you are supposed to get an electrician to check work, but what he is doing is simple and doesn't affect anything else

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Jan 2016 20:40

OH looked under the sink this morning ............ told me everything was fine.

I use both the hot and the cold water .......... and then look under the sink

a pool of water

OH phones the plumbing company at 8:30 am ................ they book us in for arriving "between 1:30 - 3:30 pm" this afternoon.

OH calls girl on phone "utter ditz" ........ she didn't understand him when he said "en-suite bathroom" :-D

Then he leaves for the university, saying he'll be back at 1:30

I get a phone call at 10:15 am ........... she has an opening for 11:00 am. Would that be OK?

Guy arrives at 10:45 am, OH walks in about 5 minutes later.

Guy leaves at 11:45 am, having fixed TWO leaks, one of which needed a new length of pipe to the cold tap.

He charges for 1.5 hours ............... from 10:15 am when he got "dispatch".

Parts cost just under $50. Labour @ $95 an hour at 1.5 hours costs $142 ........ plus taxes

Total cost about $212

but we thought the service couldn't be faulted!!

The birth cert for Tecs grandmother arrived today and it was the correct one. We just need the marriage cert to be 100% sure

You can go off Welsh people in a big way though when they laugh at you while you are trying to pronounce the silly places their ancestors lived :-0

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Jan 2016 09:20

Oh dear, they say things come in threes, so I hope we don't have a plumbing problem

OH has just gone out for the day walking. It looks grey and horrible, a really bad rainstorm is forecast for later this afternoon, so I hope it holds off untill he gets back

I spoke to Tec again yesterday afternoon, poor chap must be sick of hearing from me as he has had lots of short calls over the last week while I have been doing his tree. I promised I wouldn't bother him again until the certificates arrive

I had sent a full report on everything we have discovered. He said he had been so engrossed adding it all to his tree that the whole morning had gone and it was 3pm before he realised that he hadn't had any lunch. I think he still had a bit more to do, but he was hopefully leaving that for today

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Jan 2016 04:04

I had to get something from under the bathroom sink this afternoon .............. most of the things are in plastic trays or boxes.

So I pulled out the box, put it on my knee, and started looking for what I wanted.

uh oh .................. wet leg from my knee down

a leak under the sink :-(

OH is now trying to find out where it is coming from, so he can decide if he can do it or if we have to call the plumber in.

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Jan 2016 04:01

we had shepherd's pie like my mother used to make for dinner tonight ................

exactly like my mother and OH's mother used to make

bland :-(

The only flavourings were beef oxo cubes, salt and pepper, fine herbs and 2 bay leaves.

OH was able to spice his up by adding HP on his plate.

We usually add HP, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce, and a dollop of soy sauce

Did yor OH put a nail through a pipe fixing the skirting board on ?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 27 Jan 2016 21:41

Sorry Sylvia :-D

We had a plumbing emergency yesterday afternoon. Amazingly a plumber came out first thing this morning and by 8:30 all was fixed. Except for simple jobs OH doesn't like plumbing and electrical work. He prefers to leaves that to the experts. The skirting board saga continues but is nearly finished.

Stormy, warm and humid again - typical January weather. Back to school today for the grandchildren. Aimee and Drew are looking forward to going back - Joel and Aiden not so much.

and you 'orrible lot are talking about roast lamb :-( :-| :-P

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Jan 2016 09:36

I am really pleased for Tec because this has bugged him for years. I have had some tremendous help from an ex GR member who helps run a genealogy research page. Two heads really were better than one in this case

I love roast lamb Sue, I always choose it if it is on the menu. OH thinks it is too fatty, he is a beef man. I am glad you got some ice family time when it stopped raining

How is your boring diet going Sylvia?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Jan 2016 00:53

Sue ....... so glad you got your roast lamb and trimmings, and that bbqs were lit :-D

Tec and Linda ................ how wonderful that the brick wall is down xxxx

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Jan 2016 22:58

So pleased that the brick wall has been knocked down. Lovely for you Tec and well done Linda :-D

The sun came out in the afternoon so we were able to enjoy our Australia Day dinner. Our SIL decided to do roast lamb with the trimmings and as always it was perfect. We had lamingtons with coffee after dinner. Sylvia - still plenty of BBQ's around :-D

Today OH continues to replace the skirting boards. Not a job he's enjoying but it looks good and he is pleased with the result.

I'm envious of your trip to Venice. I love it there although it was very hot both times we've been there. April will be good.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Jan 2016 21:59

Hello, :-D.

Thank you for your birthday wishes. I had a lovely day with my daughter and SIL.

I am such a happy bunny tonight. :-D

Linda has cracked a brick wall (several actually) that I have been working on for years, without success.Linda
As Linda knows, my maternal family are so good at hiding, and are so frustrating to research.
I am so grateful, and I know that the facts now uncovered are the result of hours of mind bending research .

Have to go now - hope everyone is well.
I will get back to you Linda tomorrow when my head has cleared. :-D

You can't hide now Ethel :-D :-D :-D

Tec is over the moon,

I have a headache :-(

I am waiting for a birth certificate to arrive and I have just ordered a marriage cert today, I don't think there is much more to do before they arrive

I thought Sue was a wimp as well Sylvia

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Jan 2016 19:14

it's raining also here

Linda ...... that's great that you managed to break down Tec's brick wall. He will be delighted.

Sue .............. I can't believe that a little rain cancelled Australia Day :-D I thought nothing would stop an Aussie throwing a shrimp on the barbie or downing a few beers :-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Jan 2016 09:31

It is a shame it has been raining Sue, here I was imagining you throwing another shrimp on the barbie :-D

Still having your OH doing renovations isn't bad.

I totally forgot when I listed the holidays that we are going to Venice in April as well, so maybe we can just fit in a weekend somewhere before that

I am really pleased with myself as I think I have cracked Tecs brick wall with a bit of the old lateral thinking. I have had help from an ex GR member who runs a genealogy page. She has spotted some of the some of the things I needed for confirmation. It is good when you have someone to bounce ideas off

It is a horrible rainy day here, OH said he is just going to read his book this morning, so I will do some more work on Tecs tree.
