good grief!

LindainHerriotCountry Report 28 Mar 2016 11:21

Absolutely no chance of any help from her, she isn't coping with the situation well, not that she ever copes with any situation.

As luck has it, his daughters boyfriend is staying for a month. He comes from Finland and hasn't worked for the eight years I have known him, some sort of breakdown apparently. Their welfare system is so good that he has his own flat and plenty of money. He comes to stay for a month at a time, she goes over there for all her holidays. Anyway, he will be on hand to help my brother during the day and his daughter will cook when she gets back from work

I love Whitby, although Scarborough is my favourite place

Glad to hear the Easter Bunny found the family in Ireland :-)

Pleased to hear that they are hoping to get your brother home in a few days. How will his wife cope?

I heard that there was bad weather in the UK .........

..... we had pouring rain from about 10 pm on Saturday night until well after midnight, then showers. It was cloudy when the "sun" came up, but it was sunny with high clouds by noon :-)

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Mar 2016 23:37

Happy Easter to everyone.

We went out for the day to Whitby which I know is your favourite Sue. We didn't actually go into the town as it was heaving with tourists. We went to see if OH's brother was at his caravan, but he wasn't .

We tried to have lunch at a few random pubs on the way, but we couldn't gat in, but thankfully we eventually found somewhere.

On the way back,we stopped at a farm shop for coffee and cake. Just as we got there, the sky turned black and we had only just got inside when the thunder started. It was hammering down with hailstones, not rain. When we left, it looked as if it had been snowing outside. It was a good job we stopped as it would have been impossible to drive through it.

It is my daughters birthday today, they are in Ireland visiting a friend Luckily she remembered to tell the Easter bunny they would be away, so he found them in Ireland, much to Eve's relief.

My brother is OK, I have been to visit him twice. The physio have him up and walking using a walker, very painful apparently. They are going to teach him to use crutches and get him home in a few days.

Happy Easter to all my friends....I've been neglecting you all lately but I do think of you all.

When we were in Tasmania Aiden had a birthday picnic. I was very excited to see a few bilbies but the family just shrugged their shoulders :-D

I'm pleased to see you have kept the flag, Huia :-)

Hope your brother is keeping as well as he can, Linda <3

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Mar 2016 09:21

Huia, I now have visions of my dads hat running around with bunny ears and a fluffy tail :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Mar 2016 20:00

Huia ............

:-D :-D

it's a small marsupial, also called the rabbit bandicoot.

I believe it is now endangered .............. but designating it as the Easter Bilby, and selling chocolate Easter Bilby, etc is raising funds for research, etc etc

Glad to see you are keeping the old flag :-)

Huia

Huia Report 25 Mar 2016 19:29

Sylvia, please tell me what a bilby is. Is it a smaller version of a trilby?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Mar 2016 19:03

his wife will have to help :-D :-0

She'll also have to drive the car if she wants to go anywhere, or to take your brother around ............. so perhaps she'll learn about emergency phones :-D

It sounds from what you say, that that will be shock to her system :-D :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Mar 2016 17:33

Having geared himself up for the operation, this morning the surgeons had another look at the x rays and decided not to operate. It was too risky because he is overweight, diabetes and sleep apnoea
They said that the bones are lined up well, so they have put another large cast over the top of the small one and are going to let it heal naturally. They said that pinning it just speeds the repair up by two or three weeks. They are going to check it every week and if it isnt healing in three weeks they will have to operate.
They said that they will get the physios to teach him how to use crutches so he can go home. The cast is so heavy that he cant lift his leg, so I am not sure how that is supposed to work

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Mar 2016 03:03

That's good news, Linda!

They're really on the ball.

I hope all goes well for him, both the operation and the diabetes.

They don't have an Easter Bunny down under ............. they have an Easter Bilby :-D

To be precise, the Long Eared Giant Bilby :-D :-D

The coffee shop where we go most afternoons has an Australian (from Perth) working there and we were only joking about this on Wednesday :-)

This is going to be a funny weekend weather-wise .......

....... Rain and some sun on Good Friday, cloud and some sun on Saturday, rain on Easter Sunday :-( and cloud with sun or possibly rain on Monday :-( :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Mar 2016 23:10

I only have the one brother Sue, so that would be him.

I hope you are being good on Good Friday :-D

I hope it doesn't rain on Sunday for the Easter egg hunt. MDoes the Easter bunny still come down under of did they all get mexamitos?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 24 Mar 2016 22:44

Things are moving fast...a good thing for him. Yes the diabetes is a concern in the healing process but as the hospital will be aware of that then they will hopefully be vigilant. Is this the brother OH and I met briefly? If so please pass on our best wishes.

It is Good Friday here and raining...that's almost a tradition here.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Mar 2016 21:13

Well, I take back all I said about the NHS. Late last night, they came in to ask my brother, if he could go for an x ray in a wheel chair or would he need a trolley. He assumed they meant for this morning, so said it would have to be a trolley. about ten minutes later a trolley appeared,so he had an x ray at 11.10pm.

This morning the doctor came to see him and looked at his leg and they are operating tomorrow. I cant believe it as it is Good friday tomorrow, so a bank holiday. Anyway it will be done and then all it has to do is heal. As he is diabetic, I am keeping everything crossed for that

Just a little bit dramatic :-\

I hope you find your brother quite well although I can imagine he will be very tired.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Mar 2016 09:05

Oh, OK, I was being a bit dramatic <3

I am going to see my brother this afternoon, now that he is back on home soil

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 24 Mar 2016 08:42

Oh I'm hurt...I haven't forsaken any of you :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Mar 2016 12:34

Ah there you are Sue, Tec was asking about you yesterday.
I told him you had foresaken us :-(

The job will keep your OH busy, you know how they don't like sitting around. If it is only casual, you can say no if you want to go somewhere.

My brother should be on the way back to the UK now. He had a three hour ambulance drive, followed by a flight to Paris, then another on to Teesside then an ambulance to the bad hospital. They will probably assess him on Thursday, but Friday and Monday are bank holidays and nothing ever happens at the weekend of course, so it will probably be next week before anything happens.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 23 Mar 2016 11:04

You certainly do make chutneys, Linda...delicious chutneys.

I'm sorry Tec is not feeling his best. Slurred speech and a headache is a little worrying :-(

OH has been offered a job driving people to the airport once or twice a week. He has taken to the idea...I'm not sure. I'm enjoying his retirement but it's only casual so I guess it's worth a go.

Lovely autumn weather so lots of tidying up in the garden. We have bought a paw paw tree, a blueberry bush and a boysenberry bush so perhaps I will be making jam :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Mar 2016 09:38

I used to make jam, but we hardly ate any of it, so I used to give it away. So for the last couple of years, I have frozen the fruit instead to make crumbles during the year.

I do make lots of chutneys though and pickle lots of beetroot as we eat so much..

It was kind of your new neighbours to give you the jam Persie, I hope you are settling in and making new friends
