Hello folks .

Linda , it is good to see that you have read some of the other Tolkien books :-) I was quite obsessed with Tolkien in my youth , must have read The Lord of the Rings at least twenty times :-0 I bought the Silmarillion the day it came out , I was on holiday in the Lake district with my parents and spent my holiday money on it , I then refused to go anywhere and spent the first few days of the holiday sitting in the car reading ...lol
I haven't bothered with the Hobbit films , I feel it has been used as a " cash cow " :-|

I hope you are bearing up okay in the cold and snow Tec and Linda , it has been cold and frosty here but no snow as such .

Then why Tec?!?

I prefer books too Linda. I'm often disappointed by the film adaptation.

Don't go having a second childhood and doing silly things again Tec

You are right about reading some classics again that you may have read when young - definitely seem to absorb and understand more.

The most dangerous aspect of that escapade was if the ship hit a big wave, which can happen even in a calm sea, I could have gone under the water and been sucked out of the porthole, and under the ship.

Then you wouldn't have had to bravely come to darkest Wales to find me :-D

I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings to my son when he was young, he enjoyed them. I have read them again since then, I have also read several of the other books which go with them which people tend not to know about.

I am not keen on the films, I prefer the books.

SueMaid Report 20 Jan 2015 22:33

I shudder at the thought of that adventure, Tec :-0 What were you all thinking :-0

I've never had much interest in the Hobbit series. So I doubt I'll see the movie. It's always good to read certain classics when you are older as you have a different perspective on what you are reading. I read "Catcher in the Rye" when I was a teenager and didn't really understand it. I read it again about 10 years ago and it seemed so different to when I first read it.

It was more than dangerous Linda, more like suicidal :-D

In later years I severely reprimanded a youngster for doing something equally stupid - hypocrite :-D

I've got the Hobbit books here that the Duchess sent for. She read them, but I haven't.

You hadn't told us Tec, it sounds highly dangerous

I did watch the film, mainly because it was so long, I thought it would be better than sitting in the kiosk.

I have read all of the books over the years. Although this film is called The Hobbit, it isn't the start of the story as the book is, it is actually rounding it all off

Another time Linda :-) Was the movie good or didn't you get to see it?

Joel is valiantly wading through the Hobbit. I'm not sure how much of it he understands but I think he is enjoying the challenge. He's only 8 so I think he is doing well.

Hello Linda,

Hope you've warmed up now - did you watch the Hobbit?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Jan 2015 22:18

I think I've told this before,

When I first went to sea I was dangled out of the lowest most forward porthole with a rope round my legs and ankles, and a cine camera to film dolphins playing with the bow - this was because I was the only one skinny enough to get through the porthole.

It wasn't even my cine camera :-D

Must have been insane :-D

My giddy aunt, it is absolutely freezing here.
I watched the film and despite our new heating, it was a bit chilly in there

I am sorry you didn't get your trip out Sue, it sounds good

I love them Tec. We've been before and I love watching them put on a show. They dive under the boat and swim alongside. Wonderful creatures.

There's plenty of time to go. Our son doesn't go back to Uni for another couple of weeks.

Good Morning Sue,

What a shame the weather isn't suitable for a dolphin watch.
They are fascinating creatures.
They will even play with the bows of an ocean liner, at speed :-D

We get them in the bay here from May to September. Aslo seals around February/March

Hello :-)

How nice of your friend Sylvia. I'm pleased you had a good time.

It's overcast and drizzly here again today which is a shame as we had planned an outing with our son. We were hoping to go down the coast and take a Dolphin Cruise. We've been before and the sight of dolphins playing in the ocean is wonderful. Much more enjoyable on a sunny day.

The Hobbit is at our local cinema too.
I hope that your cinema has heating.

I have made a nice stew/casserole in my slow cooker. It smells delicious. Made far to much, so will have to freeze some for another day.

Welcome back Sylvia - your naughty friend obviously appreciated all the help you both gave her.

It is bitterly cold here, but dry.

We have had a very nice day with another of our pub lunches :-D

Sadly it is about to be spoilt by cinema duty. It is The Hobbit which is two and a half hours long. :-(

hi all

we're back ............... had a great time. A lovely birthday dinner with our friends, and then we managed to help our friend move stuff around, and make decisions about pictures to keep etc.

We packed several boxes with books ............... some to go to her new place, some to go to one of the service clubs for a book sale, some to be sent elsewhere, and some to be junked. OH moved the boxes to set places in the house ............... and then put "her" boxes in the car and tool them to her new place.

We had one really nice day on Friday and then another sunny day today .............. but it rained hard on Saturday and Sunday.

Then I discovered that the naughty friend had paid our room bill at the hotel when I went to check out this morning!

I also use Booking.com :-)

take care everyone
