On hold for awhile at least....we were rather naive in thinking that it would be straight forward. When our son goes back we may travel over with him and meet his little family.

Have you spoken to Tec lately? I've been thinking about him.

Life is complicated Sue :-(

I guess your FLorida holiday is on hold then

SueMaid Report 3 May 2016 00:33

Linda - my son is back because he has paperwork to complete to enable him to work in the U.S. Some of it has to be completed here. He's just working to earn some money and experience before going back. It's more complicated that they realised.

Lots of yellow bikes Sue :-D

I am confused, I thought that your son was living in Florida now. Obviously he is back home now, is it just for a while, or is he back for good?

SueMaid Report 2 May 2016 13:39

As soon as you mentioned cycling I thought they must be visiting. No yellow bicycles?

My son has just picked up a couple of days work at a small zoo about 45 minutes away. He worked today cleaning out animal enclosures and preparing food for the animals. I think he's going to enjoy the work although he's way over qualified. All experience to add to his CV.

Very chilly here tonight but nice mild days.

I am glad that you are still with us Sylvia :-D

My son and his girlfriend have been here for the weekend Sue. They came this weekend because the Tour de Yorkshire cycling race was passing through the town today. They have just gone home.

It was a great shame that it has been such a horrible day, it was raining all morning, there was still a very good turn out though. A huge amount of effort had gone in to decorating the town, it was yarn bombed.

It is a glorious day in London, Eve has been having a picnic in the park at a sardine festival? They are in summer clothes and wearing sun glasses. we have the central heating on

We love Staithes and Saltburn and really love Robin Hoods Bay. Very steep but worth it :-) Have you got your son and partner staying?

The nights are turning cool here but we're still getting warm days. The garden is a bit confused...I have a couple of plants that have decided to bloom again.

The household is getting back to normal now the children have gone back to school. They are getting easy to look after but can still be tiring. I guess that's why we have our children young :-)

My feet are killing me :-(

We had a day out at the seaside today. For some reason they wanted to go to Saltburn, we had a nice lunch and a walk on the beach. We then went on to Staithes which I think is a lovely place, apart from the incredibly steep road down from the car park. We went wrong on the way back and ended up on a rough field path which wasn't very easy for my knee but I made it.

We won't bad going far tomorrow as we are watching the cycling going through the town

I have to admit I dont post very often. In fact, right now (7a.m) I should be getting ready to drive up the motorway to Mt Albert for the funeral of my oldest cousin. It doesnt start until 10.00 but there are some works going on on the motorways, and who knows what accidents might happen to block it, plus I might get lost.

See you all again another day.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Apr 2016 18:37

This morning we went to St Marks basilica which was very good, we got there early so didn't have to queue very long.

We had intended to take the water bus over to Murano, but there was as free water taxi if you went to a glass factory, it didn't bring you back which was fine. We had the swish boat to ourselves which was good, then a private tour of the glass making. Obviously then they take you into the expensive showroom in the hope that you are rich, but there wasn't any hard sell. They then put you in the plebs show room, where there was some very nice affordable stuff. I was looking for a necklace for my daughters birthday. I saw a very nice one which appeared to be half the price of the others. I thought I must have got the price wrong, but it had the original price on it as well as the reduction. I hope she likes it

We had a walk round the island and went to the glass museum before getting the water bus back. After lunch we went to the Doges palace, then another museum, so we are feeling cultured out

We will have to go out for dinner soon, but it will be a chore to get ready. I would love to eat in the hotel restaurant but they have a Michelin star so even the set menu is 160 euros each, I dread to think how much the wine is

SueMaid Report 19 Apr 2016 23:29

I'm pleased you enjoyed the walk. There are so many little streets and alleys. Last time we walked far enough to find an amazing park that seemed out of place. No tourists so we sat in the shade and enjoyed the quiet :-)

LindainHerriotCountry Report 19 Apr 2016 13:49

We went on a three hour guided walk this morning. It was very informative, but my feet are like puddings now.

It finished in the area near the fish market which is lots of tiny streets full of restaurants and bars. We had a glass of the local prose do with some cicchetti ( the Venettian equivalent of tapas) for lunch.

We have returned to the hotel for a siesta as it is heaving with tourists now.

My cold is getting better Sue, I just have an annoying cough- well OH seems to be annoyed when start oughing :-|

We are here Sue. We had to get up at 4am, so are shattered now.

We had lunch next to ax canal, then had a little wander round, it is very pretty. We came back to the hotel to have a sleep before we go out this evening. It will be very early to bed tonight I think.

It was about 20C and very sunny, we are not used to that. It will be skirt and sunglasses weather while we are here

SueMaid Report 18 Apr 2016 13:40

Hello??

I hope you are feeling much better, Linda. When do leave on your holiday?

The weather hasn't been good - we are on our way into winter. We've been tidying the garden. OH has decided not to plant winter veggies so we have spread compost over the veggie garden and laid mulch over the area. Joel helped me do that while grandad pruned some shrubs. Drew and Aimee helped put the cuttings into the compost bin. They are getting a taste for gardening from their mum...it's good to see
:-)
