LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 May 2016 15:58

The weather was very mixed Sue, we had two very hot days, when unfortunately we were on half day trips, two rainy days and the rest was indifferent. It is always nice to get away though.

It is so cold here and raining. I can't believe the change in the garden in just a week. Before we left, there was bare soil, but now it looks like a jungle. We need to dig a lot out, but it is going to rain for the next few days, so it will have to wait.

I spoke to Tec. His infection is a lot better, but he has been in a lot of pain this week with his back and chest. He doesn't know if it is the cancer, or the fact that a couple of weeks ago, he decided to strip the paint off the bottom of the front door and sand it down, so he was bending down and leaning sideways on the wheel chair, I told him what a silly man he is

We had to cut our chat short because the nurse came, so I will catch up with him later

It was a looong lunch :-D

Pleased that you are both back safe and sound. Did you enjoy the holiday?

Winter is upon us :-( Very chilly in the morning and at night and quite cool through the day. Our balmy Autumn is over. We've been tidying the garden and putting lots of mulch on the veggie garden. It is having a rest over winter - no veggies as OH wants to build the soil up.

Hello Sylvia and Linda :-D

Sounds like you are doing your own thing and enjoying it, Linda.

Nice that you were missed, Sylvia.

We are going to a friend's birthday lunch today. It's cool but sunny so should be pleasant as its outdoors.

It isn't raining today, but it is cloudy and overcast, so this morning, we got the courtesy bus to the local towns. The old part is very quaint, but to be honest, when you have wandered round one old town, you have seen them all. It would have been good to have done a quided walk and learn about the history of the place. I shall just have to google it

There you go, I googled it

We've never been on any longer than a 1 day escorted tour ......... and even those have been arranged as part of a botanical meeting.

Our friend who lost his wife 2 years ago has long been a fan of cruises ........ they used to go on 2 or 3 a year ...... but never did the organised trips ashore. Thye used to get off the ship, but just wander around the port, or the beach, or take a cab somewhere.

The only cruises they did differently were a birding cruise around the UK, and a cruise down into the Antarctic, and they loved those.

Last year, as part of his "doing different things", he opted to go on a small coach tour of South Africa organised by his travel agent. He loved and hated it

He loved the places, animals and other sites that he got to see and would never have seen or experienced on his own.

He hated the travelling in a small coach with 12 other people, and the dining at set times .......... I don't think they had large communal tables all the time.

By the last week he was most definitely finding time to wander off by himself whenever possible!

He said he was glad he had done it, but he would never do it again.

Good to know you were missed anyway Sylvia

A couple of years ago, we did an organised rail trip around part of Eorope, which once we got there was mainly coaches. It was good because you got to go places you wouldn't have and had a guide to tell you things, but we hated the communal meals part of it.

We did another similar one which was on a bed and breakfast basis only. That was better because we got the trips, but could be on our own in the evenings.

It has been raining this morning, so walking to breakfast on the lethal wet tiles was an experience. I was terrified of falling down. OH put one foot out of the bedroom door onto the open passageway and skidded, so I was really careful

OH is back

He said it was a good meeting ......... but he got a bit fed up of the first thing being said to him was "And where IS Sylvia?"!!!!

Apparently at least 20 people said that :-D

Hello Emma - always lovely to see you <3

Our coach trip around Europe was great and we enjoyed it very much....but towards the back end we and another couple ducked out of a number of activities that were organised and wandered around the cities together eating where we wanted to. Organised trips are a wonderful for some people to get to see new places but it gave us a taste for doing our own thing. Having said that we did enjoy ourselves.

Hello Emma, we are enjoying ourselves thank you

I should think you are doing nothing Sylvia.

We don't need to join in, but there are free drinks and nibbles involved. The dancing was rubbish, but only for an hour before dinner.

We are just doing the two half day trips which are included in the holiday, some people were signing up for trips just about everyday. I know it is good to see an area, but OH just likes to relax and chill out on holiday as he is so busy normally

I'd forgotten that you had won this holiday!

Do you have to go to all their events?

There used to be a guy on Friends Reunited who just loved Saga holidays ........ those of us who were around on that site in those days just collapse in uncontrollable laughter at the mere mention of Saga holidays, because of what Jeremy used to post :-D . The thing is ................. he and his wife were only in their 30s :-S

It never sounded as though it was our kind of holiday ................... and we're a tad older than you, I think.

The weather has changed, and is cooler than it was, but the fires are still raging in northern BC, around Fort Mac and north into the oil sand area ........... one oil workers' lodge was destroyed on Tuesday. There was rain and even possible wet snow in the forecast for last night and the next couple of days, so hopefully that will bring some relief.

OH is due back later today ......... the end of my "me" time, in which I did nothing except put out the garbage (compost and kitchen waste only) on Tuesday.

Ciao, come stai?

Not that I have just been to the reps Italian lesson :-D

The sun went in, so it was something to do. We have decided that we are too young for Saga holidays with all jolly hockey sticks activities and communal dining. I can see it has a place for older people who re on their own, but I am dreading tonight's Puglian music and dancing evening. We hate such things specially put on to entertain tourists. Yes I know we are cantankerous old.......

I'm so jealous, Linda. Italy....my favourite place ??

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 18 May 2016 19:55

Oops, we were in an airport hotel. We had to get up at 5am and are now in Puglia in Italy.

The holiday I won was a Saga one, so it is all jolly group outings and communal meals, not our style at all. Still it is only for a week and it is free.

At least the wifi is working, I have shown Eve round the hotel room, she insists on that as her daddy is usually away on business a couple of nights a week and he has to show her his room

I feel an early night coming on

LindainHerriotCountry Report 17 May 2016 21:16

We have driven the length of the country and aren't now in an airport hotel, not looking forward to our very early start. We are supposed to have wifi in some parts of the hotel, but if you don't hear from me, you will know why
