Yes you are special, but I want to sit with the men and talk about things like football, cricket, cars, DIY, and boys toys,

While you lot are talking about knitting, cooking, fashion, shopping, and girls things :-D :-D :-D

You can't compare Sue and I to a coach full of blokes, we are special, we are :-|

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 23:11

ok - how would you feel on a coach full of blokes on a pub tour, and just you? :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Feb 2015 23:07

Of course they are coming, we need them to carry them cases.

We have been to the Lion Inn with family on a number of occasions. A group of hikers were caught there one time. I don't know when that was.

I have come to a point when I can honestly say I don't need anymore pots. Yes I know....hard to believe but it's true :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 22:49

We will need a large coach with space to lie down should we not be able to stand up, and one with a coffee machine between stops :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Feb 2015 22:46

They are usually lovely old stone built pubs, so I will sign up to do the tour with you Tec. Is anyone else coming as well? We will need to know what size coach to get :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 22:43

Wouldn't it be fun if we all went on a national tour of all the highest pubs? :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 22:41

Enjoy your coffee Sylvia

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 22:39

There is the village of Bwlchgwyn nr Wrexham that claims to be the highest village in Wales.

They have a pub, called the Royal Oak I think - that isn't on your list Sylvia.

I once lived in the next village down - Coedpoeth, that is very high too.

just out of interest, I googled "highest pubs", and found this

someone has made a list :-)

Scotland's high five:

1,440 ft, Wanlockhead Inn, Wanlockhead, B797 Dumfries & Galloway.
(Was closed for a while, I believe, but now open again?)
1,340 ft, ????, Cock Bridge, Highlands.
1,310 ft, Lead Hills Pub, Leadhills, B797 Dumfries & Galloway.
1,110 ft, Richmond Arms Hotel (assuming it has public bar), Tomintoul, Highlands.

The ones in Wales:

1,430 ft, Sportsman's Arms, A543 between Denbigh and Pentrefoleas.
1,370 ft, Lamb & Fox ???, just North of Blaenavon.
1,310 ft, Tafarn Ty Uchaf ???, Trefil, of the A465 North of Tredegar
1,110 ft, on B4246 between Blaenavon and Govilon.
900 ft, Pen-y-Gwyrd Hotel, A4086 at the turn off for the Llanberis Pass, Snowdonia.

England's Inns with altitude:

1,730 ft, Tan Hill Inn, North Yorkshire.
1,690 ft, The Cat & Fiddle Inn, A537 between Buxton and Macclesfield.
1,500 ft, Traveller's Rest, nr Flash on A53 between Buxton and Leek.
1,480 ft, Kirkstone Pass Inn, between Windermere and Patterale, Cumbria.
(Given its location this one certainly feels the highest)
1,470 ft, The New Inn, Flash, Staffordshire.
1,470 ft, Royal Cottage, on the A53 halfway between Leek and Buxton.
1,440 ft, The Mermaid, on the A53 near Leek, Staffordshire.
1,440 ft, Winking Man, on the A53 halfway between Leek and Buxton (close to Royal Cottage).
1,410 ft, Miners Arms, Nenthead, Cumbria.
1,350 ft, Warren House Inn, Postbridge, Dartmoor.

One of my nieces lived in Wanlockhead for about 5 years ......... it's a very interesting place. There's been a lead mine there since the days of the Romas

Tecwyn Report 7 Feb 2015 22:31

We have only been trapped here once in 20 years.

There is only one road through the village, and although we had little snow here, there was heavy snowfall either side of the village.

So we were cut off for three days

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Feb 2015 22:31

Yes Sue there might be more pots you could have bought :-D

Or even better, a candy chair

Tec ................

the same thing has happened here ......................

we expected big snowfalls even here in the late 1960s and 1970s

I used to keep weather records at the Garden ............... and we regularly had accumulations of over 100 cm every winter. Fortunately, snowfalls usually melted away fairly quickly, so we never actually saw that depth. But I can remember 2 or 3 winters when we had dumps of 20-25 cm at one go ..............and everything kept going
