it would be fun to get marooned in one or more of the pubs ........................

I think :-S

SylviaInCanada Report 8 Feb 2015 20:45

sorry ......... my daughter phoned for her regular weekly chat :-)

Tec ......... I'm glad that you saw the Duchess today, but sorry that she was so confused.

Surely it would be better for their residents if they had a larger staff on duty, even though it is Sunday.

Well Sylvia will be alright. Her weather and temps are much like ours really, but I don't think Sue will appreciate leaving her summertime to coming here to freeze to death :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Feb 2015 20:41

Oh I was thinking of going tomorrow, but of course we will have to wait for Sylvia and Sue to make their travel plans

Tecwyn Report 8 Feb 2015 20:30

Hello Sylvia,
The tour of the highest pubs sounds like fun doesn't it? :-D

I take it this tour will take place in the summer, or we might have difficulty reaching some of them.

Although I know Sue is hoping to be snowed in :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Feb 2015 20:18

I am sorry that she wasn't well. It is awful that they are not helping her and checking on her pain. I know you wish that you could have her home but you can't. I suppose that all you can do is visit as often as you can to keep them on their toes

We will be touring the pubs according to their height above sea level

Hi Linda and tec

The pub crawl sounds wonderful :-D

Tecwyn Report 8 Feb 2015 19:58

Well if we are doing English pubs. Can I request three areas that I am interested in?

Northumberland,
Cumbria, and the Cotswolds, be included in the route please

I did spend a couple of hours with the Duchess this afternoon.
She was rather confused today.
Still in her nightie, with clothes in disarray everywhere. The bed in a ruck.
I think that she had probably started to get dressed but ended up in a muddle and gave up.
Anyway, I got her into a dressing gown. Tidied the room, putting things away in drawers, and on hangers.
She was complaining of severe back pain, probably from a curvature of the spine that has developed. So I asked the nurse to give her some paracetamol.
Being Sunday, there is only very junior staff and a nurse on duty.

It troubles me that she is just left to get on with it, when there are days that she can't cope with the simplest things.
What a shame she can't come home.

I am not convinced, I think we will give Wales a miss and start off in England, I will plan the route tomorrow.

Did you manage to see the Duchess today?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 8 Feb 2015 18:59

We like to keep things secret in Wales :-D

Lets not tell anyone we're here, in case they might want to come, and we can't be having that. :-D

So .......we'll get a coach, though it looks more like a mini-bus, and strike terror into the hearts of the pub landlords as we pull up outside.
Then we'll cause hysteria by having the audacity to order food.

Blodwen will be summoned and told to drop everything and hurry up the mountain to the pub kitchen.
Tomos will be told to knock the butcher up get what the unexpected customers had ordered.
Myfanwy will be told to leave the sheep and get her natty little waitress's outfit on.

Then word will go round the village that the English have arrived - doors will be locked - curtains will twitch.

Then I will order the drinks in Welsh, and be taken away as a collaborator, never to be seen again.

Seriously - I jest.
Most Welsh pubs are renowned for their good food and hospitality.

The next one is the TAFARN TY-UCHAF Tredegar

No website, no reviews

What is it with these Welsh pubs???

The fourth one on the lisyt doesn't have a name, so it is out :-|

OK so the only one left is the Pen-Y-Gwryd Hotel, Snowdonia,

www.pyg.co.uk/

Nice website, good reviews on trip advisor, rooms to stay in, so we will go there today

Hang on, the website is out of date and last winter it closed for January and February and didn't open until March so we may not be going there either :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Feb 2015 17:47

I thought we would pick Tec up first and do the Welsh pubs.

The highest one is the The Sportsmans Arms in Bylchau, but it doesn#t have a website and seems to be up for sale, so no point in going there is it might be closed :-(

so the next one is Lamb & Fox , just North of Blaenavon. It is open today, but when I try to visit their website my virus checker brings up dire warnings about the site,so we arent going there.
