hi Tec

I don't see why you should wear a kilt ............. I know OH won't :-)

even though his name is spelled the Scottish way instead of the Welsh or English ........ at the insistence of his Scottish uncle-by-marriage :-)

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Feb 2015 22:43

we should go to the Lead Museum .............. it's fascinating

OH ................ I see on one review that we should take our own bedding if we sleep in the wigwams

no bedding, as well as no toilet

Hello Sylvia,

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Feb 2015 22:41

we went out for dinner one night to a restaurant in an old "laird's house", about 5 miles or so down the valley ..................... the carpets were tartan, and rather overpowering :-D

The food was fine :-)

Linda stop bullying Tec - he doesn't want to wear a kilt. What would Archie think?

Hi Sylvia :-) The area sounds lovely but then the parts of Scotland we've seen have all been quite breathtaking. Especially the Highlands.

Hi all ..................

one of my brother's daugthers lived in Wanlockhead in the 1990s ............. she bought 2 decrepit old miners' cottages, knocked them into one, and made a lovely house.

One untoward thing did happen when they were beginning renovations ............. they had to do the roof, and as they began work, one of the gable end walls collapsed :-)

She also worked in the museum, and had a little girl while she was up there ( a HUGE surprise to everyone, as she was supposed to be completely infertile, so the doctors were treating her for the world's longest case of flu for about 5 months before they realised :-) )

We stayed with her in 1995 ................... but I see the Wanlockhead Inn where we are staying is "new" since then.

She left when her daughter was old enough to go to school, as there was no school there, and even 5 year olds had to take a 10 or 15 mile bus ride down the valley.

It's a lovely area :-)

Tut, I am working my fingers to the bone here, arranging your trip around the country and you won't even dress up

Strolling along the lake on a summers day sounds lovely.

So glad you've arrived Sue. Will you tell Linda to stop bullying me?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2015 22:22

we should have tried the Northumbrian pipes today, they are much nicer than bagpipes

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 14 Feb 2015 22:22

The wigwams look fun - but no inside toilet?!? :-0

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 14 Feb 2015 22:21

Running late this morning - decided to go for an early morning stroll along the lake. So did lots of other people :-D

liking kilts and wearing them are two different things.. We'll be playing bagpipes next :-D

Tecwyn Report 14 Feb 2015 22:18

I'm not grouchy............

When I was five I was forced to dress up as a stupid page boy at somebody's wedding. Satin blouse/shirt, a kilt, black patent shoes.

I was traumatised, and threw a mega tantrum

scarred for life

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2015 22:14

Goodness, you are grouchy tonight :-|

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Feb 2015 22:12

I'm not wearing a sporran either,

Why do I need to dress up as a Scotsman anyway?

I wouldn't dress up as an Arab if I went to Saudi :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2015 22:08

Trews it is then, I wonder if you could still have a sporran, I hope so

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Feb 2015 22:07

Even though I would look ridiculous in tartan trousers, they would be preferable to a kilt.
