Buffalo - interesting :-)

I've been hanging the washing out - it's a lovely Autumn day. Sunny and cool.

I like buffalo ............. and bison, and deer, etc etc

We're taking some friends to our favourite restaurant, Bishop's, on Friday. They often have one of those meats on the menu :-)

Good Afternoon Sylvia,

The Marquis of Anglesey has a buffalo farm not far from here. They sell buffalo joints and steaks in the farm shop.
It is quite expensive, and apparently very nice, although I haven't tasted it, except in a buffalo burger my daughter brought here.

Yuk, snow showers and ice for us tomorrow

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Mar 2015 22:37

That's the good thing - it isn't a fatty meat.

it's a lovely day here .................. sunny and warm, temperature around 10C or slightly above

March really has come in like a lamb this year :-D

February was officially the second warmest on record

The rest of Canada is not the same

Ottawa had its coldest February on record

Daughter said they were expecting snow last night

when we spent the year in Melbourne in the mid-70s, one of the other wives was from Fiji ..... she was a lovely girl, we got very close.

She had gone to boarding school in Australia in the 1960s ............ and said they got so much kangaroo meat because it was cheap and easily available ............ she couldn't bear to even look at a kangaroo, let alone think of eating the meat :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Mar 2015 22:31

I thought it was fine and it is low in fat

SueMaid

Hello Sylvia :-D

We have kangaroo meat in our butchers and supermarkets. We have had roast kangaroo which was ok but not something I'd eat again. I don't know if that's because I know it's a kangaroo.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Mar 2015 22:21

They bashed the abelone with a hammer to tenderise it before they cooked it, so it wasn't tough

I have bought kangaroo steaks in this country

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 2 Mar 2015 22:20

I couldn't eat wallaby either.

Did have a casserole like dish in Sydney once made with kangaroo tail - it wasn't very nice.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 2 Mar 2015 22:20

The abalone looked nice, it tastes a bit like prawn apparently

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Mar 2015 22:19

Hi everyone

not had wallaby

I've had abalone up here ........ very chewy :-)

We did have kangaroo filets in a restaurant in Sydney last time we were down there.

it was served with a very nice game-type sauce ....... blueberries or blackberries in red wine.

It was very good :-)

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 2 Mar 2015 22:13

Oh no - I couldn't eat a wallaby. They are a bit odd in Tassie. Having said that I can't wait to go there on the weekend.
