Amanda what a wonderful relief it must be for the jet setter to get in touch with the soil, away from the hustle and bustle of airline travel, and the stress that must cause.
She obviously realises true values - I applaud her :-D

I have a couple of rather loopy individuals in my ancestry, one of them being my grandfather's brother.. which is a bit close for comfort. Mind you it was his wife's idea that they give themselves extra names and a title to go with it.

My gran's sister was quite scathing about her but also very witty. I used to love going to her place. Would take my friends there on the way home from high school much to my mother's chagrin but my Aunt thought it was lovely that I wanted to bring my friends to meet her.

Hello Sylvia ...........life is a rat race most of the time I think :-(

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Mar 2015 22:33

I agree that life is harder these days ,......................

I look at the people working on faculty at the university ............. we thought OH was under pressure to "publish or perish" 40 years ago. That was nothing compared to the pressure the young guys get now.

Mind you ............... many of them also manage to parley some teaching-free terms or years. THAT would no have been possible when OH was their age!!

My daughter and her husband seem to run from pillar to post ............... they almost have to schedule time together.

Tec , I think some things have never changed over time , smelling the roses will always be a joy .
I was speaking to a newby on the allotments today , she was there for hours and hours double digging her plot . She informed me that she works for BA , flying out of Heathrow , she very much hoped she wasn't going to get called into work tomorrow , as she would much rather be on the plot , I think this is a perfect example of what you have just said :-)

Sue , shrinking clothes are a nuisance aren't they :-D
Your 3 X g.grandfather sounds like a real rouge :-0

Hi Sue!

The skirt I'm wearing is below my calf

It is really too large for me now :-D .............. but I've taken the waist in :-)

long skirts are still in fashion ................. they're now called "maxi" skirts :-)

I don't own a skirt that is shorter than my lower calf........................ I bought 4 new ones last year that are either almost or at ankle length :-)

Tecwyn Report 12 Mar 2015 22:29

It would seem, that only Linda, and I, never had a long denim skirt :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Mar 2015 22:26

Sue - what I want to know, is did the son of your family villain survive the alleged poisoning?

I so wish I could find a real villain in my ancestry - and have I inherited any of his traits :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 12 Mar 2015 22:22

I used to have a long denim skirt but it must have shrunk over the years ;-)

I'm glad the little ones have bounced back Amanda <3

I have found interesting info on FMP. One of my 3 x great grandfather was a villain. He was a so called minister of some religion. He left his wife and 'co-habited' with another woman. He thought his wife was poisoning him so he gave his food to one of his sons to eat :-0. The dear man also collected donations under false pretenses. There is a newspaper article warning people not to give him money.

On the other hand I found that in the tradition of OHs London family several of them won prizes in gardening competitions. That skill went through several generations. OH's brother in England has a beautiful garden.

Tecwyn Report 12 Mar 2015 22:20

Yes I agree, life was terribly hard for those generations, and the upper classes ruled without a heart, but that aside, there weren't the pressures of modern life as we know it.

It seems to me that we are all rushing along at a pace towards a destination that none of us want.
Sometimes it is good to stop and take account of what really matters - time to smell the roses. :-)

But so where the people Linda .

Amanda2003 Report 12 Mar 2015 22:13

I'm also in the " hippie at heart " club :-)

I sometimes catch glimpses of the gentler life on the allotments Tec , perhaps it is to do with the gardeners pace and the soil itself ?

Tecwyn Report 12 Mar 2015 22:10

Hello Sue :-)
We've all been terribly well behaved :-D

I also think Persie is a hippie at heart :-D so am I.

Amanda - It was indeed a gentler time - when the majority lived off the land in one way or another.
Life was not so materialistic as it is today.

Amanda2003 Report 12 Mar 2015 22:08

Good morning Sue , glad to hear you had a lay in :-)

I'm not quite sure on the definition of " slob day " Persie but I'm sure if I stood still on the allotments that folk would think I'm a scarecrow sometimes .....lol

SueMaid Report 12 Mar 2015 22:03

I shall read back and see what you have all been up to :-)

Glad you are side stepping the virus Amanda. :-)

Hello Persie , I'm beginning to suspect your a hippie at heart , a vision in blue denim :-D

Tec , one of my Gt uncles was a winner at all the local garden shows it seems :-)

Oh , for the gentler days of yesteryear !
