The crates are a good idea, if you have nothing else.

The trouble is they are so isolated out there. We used to sail from Hawaii to Fiji, then to Vanatua - a lot of sea miles

Tanna has practically been flattened, they have already started to replant crops. One family moved from house to house 4 times (I think) and then ended up in a shipping crate... I have come to the conclusion that those crates are very sturdy and should be made into homes for them.

Some of the arty people here have built homes out of them.. there is one home in Huntly that has two crates out on their back lawn one for the car and the other for workshop/storage.

It looks really bad out there, I hope they get more help soon

I expect the New Zealanders were relieved to be evacuated, especialy the elderly man from Tanna - even if he wasn't sick :-D

Persephone Report 17 Mar 2015 21:37

Two planes went out there the other day and had to turn back because there was problems with their instruments. When they did go they returned with quite a few New Zealanders on board..

One of the islands "Tanna" was very badly hit and the plane turned up there to take an elderly chap of ours home. He was a bit amused by them coming to get him as he said I am not sick.

You are very kind Linda. I don't have washing to do today either so that is a very good idea. Also got a library notice to say my magazine is due back (21st) so could go up to Pukekohe. Quite a nice shopping area but then I think anything would be better than Huntly though the three pharmacies we have stock all sorts of gifts and do their best.

You do tend to go stir crazy after a while Persie.

I was like a caged lion last summer with no driving licence.

Sorry that the Chatham Islands were hit by the storm. I hope there was no loss of life, or injury.
I see the RAF have sent a supply plane of aid out to Vanatua

Think I may have scored a goal there with Linda.. and I didn't frown once. :-)

I notice that I am improving a bit more each day.. Have not been out since Saturday so think we need to go somewhere today. Whilst this place is very quiet, the most excitement would have been the rubbish men on Tuesday, and then I missed them as the house is well back from the street.

The Chatham Islands where Huia has been have been hit quite badly with this cyclone and are still feeling the brunt of it. The East cape and coast road people have been praised for how well they all handled the emergency.. came dangerously close to losing the road along there.

Hello Persie,

Hope that you are well. I had a good result today after my potassium blood test - all is stable apparently.

Thanks for the coffee. :-)

You're most welcome,

I'm watching a fascinating programme re-creating the flight in 1928 by Lady Mary Heath from Cape Town to London.

The lady now doing it is flying a similar aircraft.

Hello Linda, Sylvia and Von :-)

Sorry that you are still unwell Linda. You are in the best place.

What you need is a bacon butty - even if it's not Sunday :-D

My brother and SIL were here today. It was a lovely sunny day, a little cold.
They did some useful jobs outside for me.
I have three rose bushes in tubs in the front. They needed dosing with rose food, and a mulch of fresh compost.
The huge panicles of seeds on the palm tree, now stripped by the birds of the berries throughout the winter, needed cutting down, using the tree lopper.
That was done and the tree looks much tidier.

Thank you Von, that is very kind of you

I was bound to catch it after I went to look after my granddaughter last week
