I did see it. It was cloudy,so I didn't think I would , but the clouds parted at the right time,so we saw it when it was about ninety percent covered

Good for the dinner set lady for not just paying up.

Nice to see Customs proved wrong. I've had several run ins with them over the years.

Linda did you see the eclipse this morning?

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Mar 2015 22:26

children's clothes are exempt Tec

I have looked at Lakeland, the problem is that it needs to be stainless steel, so that cuts the choice down

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 22:23

One poor woman had inherited a dinner set from UK and it was valued at over six hundred dollars and the customs required her to pay GST on it and she said but it is an inheritance and they insisted and would not give her the dinner set until she forked out. She went to our consumer program Fair Go and customs was incorrect, you cannot be charged on a family item that has been inherited.

$400 GST seems a bit steep, and unfair on traders.

We have 20% Value Added Tax on everything, however purchased.

I think children's clothes are exempt.

Linda have you looked at Lakeland for a breadbin? I expect you have

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 22:14

The only things we or I should say he buys on the net are books and CDs.

If you purchase anything over $400 you have to pay GST on it (Goods and services Tax) to customs.. they are now considering lowering this to about $40 because so many people are buying clothes, shoes etc from overseas and this affects NZ retailers. People go into shops look through the items see what they would like try it on etc, don't purchase from the shop but instead order on line.

Glad that you are on the mend Linda, and OH not too bad, maybe he will be better tomorrow,

Sylvia I hope you both enjoy the occasion - even without trifle :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Mar 2015 22:13

OH has always put sherry in his trifle

I remember once when daughter was about 14 months old ...............

important to remember she had been walking since she was about 9 months old

we'd had people for dinner, and he made trifle. Of course we had some left, so about 2 days later, I put a small amount in a container for daughter's lunch at the babysitter's.

We picked her up about 5 pm, and I was playing with her ............. me sitting on the settee and whatever she wanted to do.

She suddenly decided to take a flying leap onto the settee next to me .......................

and landed on the floor about 2' away!

that's when I realised that the cake had really absorbed the sherry, and I had one slightly inebriated child :-0 ;-) :-D :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Mar 2015 22:13

My son and daughter both have an energy saving kettle which has a water reservoir on the back and a separate chamber on the front where you put only the small amount of water you need at that time. Sounds good, but it is the most difficult unwieldy thing to actually use

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Mar 2015 22:09

we have a very simple kettle ...................... fill, put on stand, and switch on

the only thing that gets me is that the lid locks into place, so it doesn't fall open when you are pouring out ....................... I ALWAYS forget that I have to pinch in these two little red things on each side of it when I want to open it :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Mar 2015 22:09

I am trawling the internet looking for a new stainless steel bread bin as the flap down door on the current one has just broken. I cant find one I like

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Mar 2015 22:07

OH has been in bed for most of the day, but he is not too bad, I am on the mend.

The car befor this one didn't have the parking sensors and i missed them, so we had them put in. My daughter has that car now and the sensors are a godsend for parking in London

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Mar 2015 22:06

Hi guys!!

I'm waiting again ................. OH and friend went out to the university this morning, friend had a couple of meetings.

They seem to be running late.

I'm all showered, and just have to put my glad rags on in a couple of hours. OH will be wearing his dinner jacket and bow tie :-)

OH has to whip up the cream to put on the 2 trifles when he gets home ............ so I don't think I'm going to get my latte today :-(

Of course, there's sherry in the trifle!!!!!

I always read the reviews before I buy anything on the net, but do wonder how many are genuine.

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 22:01

This kettle passed the consumer test.. and he always reads the consumer before purchasing an appliance.

I just go in and say this one will do. He read up all about egg beaters/mixers when I wanted a small hand held one.. but I just went and chose the one off the shelf that I wanted.

Tecwyn Report 20 Mar 2015 21:59

Are we all invited for coffee Persie? :-D

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 21:58

All that aside am now going to make a new plunger of coffee..

My car does not beep when I get close to another car, however, have not hit another car either.

The truck does not beep when its backing either and I think it should.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Mar 2015 21:57

Persie,

I think you need an ordinary basic kettle without gizmo's :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Mar 2015 21:55

Hello Linda,

How are you, and OH today?

Maybe the Chevvy guy bought it to be the centre of attention. :-D

The only beep I appreciate is the reverse parking aid - that is useful in a tight squeeze.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 20 Mar 2015 21:54

That is far too fancy or me Persie

The one thing I do like on the car is the rear parking sensors They dont talk, but do beep nicely if I am getting too close to anything
