That's a good deal Linda..

Our first fridge had a freezer compartment at the top the top was grey and the rest of the fridge white.. it was a reconditioned one and lasted ages.. also went with the kitchen that had grey walls.

My father had a record of that, by Bing Crosby I think.

"The Bells of St. Mary's" on the other side - couldn't bear those songs.

I think he only had that record :-D

My daughter knew several songs learnt from him as a little girl.. so she goes to school and recites:

The elephants marched round and round
The band began to play
The little boy tickled the monkey's ar**
and had to be carried away.

My daughter won the bid which is good as it is brand new but with a slight mark on the front at the bottom. When they wanted to buy a new tumble dryer to match their expensive washer, I found an EBay shop which sells brand new goods with small defects on the case. The tumble dryer has a mark in the top, but as it fits under the worktop, you can't see it. It was loads cheaper than the full price.
This dishwasher is an expensive one and they got it for £220 less than the new price

His favourite was "I'll take you home again Kathleen" which amused me as that is OH's mother's name.

Persie - Yes, the same songs.

Quite often the The Skye Boat Song :-D

no idea why

My cupboards are cream Persie, the work tops are solid oak, but all the visible appliances are steel

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 23:01

My father used to do that Tec.. always the same songs.

I am so looking forward to having a dishwasher again. He has been looking at them and I said most houses come with them now so wait and see.

Are your cupboards wooden or stainless steel Linda?

I had a roll top bench that was stainless steel, where we were before, loved it.

The dishwasher here makes odd noises as well - especially when he sings :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Mar 2015 22:57

I would also look odd Persie :-D

I am watching a dishwasher on EBay which ends in a few minutes. My daughter is trying to buy it as hers stopped working earlier in the week, it was making very odd noises when I was there last week.

They had to get some new tyres for the car today as well, so it could pass its MOT, luckily there was nothing else wrong

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 22:54

I obviously cannot go into Linda's kitchen because I would look odd.

We do tend to use things in a way that they were not designed for. I have this little plastic item round has little legs on it not very big and is full of holes. It was my MIL's but have no idea what it is for. My cousin thinks it is to do with rice cooking but it is too small. I have found it great for getting the brine or whatever they have on borlotti, navy or kidney beans, I can rinse them in it.. does half a can at a time. I use it a lot good for getting the liquid off a pot of mussels as well.

I haven't tried one of those Sylvia there are some nice looking ones around, but everything in my kitchen is stainless steel, so anything else would look odd

Persie, I have one of those wooden bread bins - to keep my crisps in.

I mostly bake my own bread, but if I buy a seeded loaf I keep it in the freezer and defrost as I use it - that way I don't waste any

Persephone

Persephone Report 20 Mar 2015 22:44

Has anyone used those stoneware crocks for keeping your bread in?

We tend to stick ours in the fridge. I had a lovely wooden breadbin that outshone all the others in one of my wild purchases and it tainted the bread. So here I was with a bread bin that said bread and used for storing string and stationery items and fuse wire.

I gave it to the charity shop when we moved..

Sylvia I suppose by the time you pay to travel down to Seattle or somewhere, and paid accommodation, the $700 duty free is hardly worth it :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Mar 2015 22:31

We had a lovely clear sky, and very sunny.

I watched it - it didn't go nearly as dark as the 1999 one, but the temperature dropped dramatically. It was really cold while it lasted.

we pay PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and GST (Federal Sales Tax) on most everything except children's clothes, food (but not snack food), and prescriptions .....

and that applies whether we buy for a shop or online.

If we buy from another country, Customs slaps on a duty as well ..............

................. if we went say to the US and stayed the 7 days for a $700 duty free allowance .................. we could buy the same things down there and bring them home without paying duty, PST or GST.

I had something I thought I wanted to buy a month or so ago from a US online retailer ................. the cost of Customs duty, PST, GST and mailing almost tripled the price of the item.

I didn't buy it :-)
