OH is there as we speak. No room for two people to work in there so I'm the gopher. OH likes to do jobs like that on his own.

Hello :-D

We have sunshine today. I have no washing machine as we are renovating the laundry room and everything is out. That of course has been delayed because of the weather :-( My neighbour has kindly allowed me to use her washing machine.

Hi Linda, and Sue

I only heard how bad the Aussie weather was last night!

But glad to hear you had not been washed away!!

Linda ........ it is much colder here today than it has been. Only about 9C, when it was close to 20C on Tuesday :-0

It is also raining hard.

Being British, meant that I had left a couple of turtleneck tops in my closet "just in case" ...... so I too am in a turtleneck top and trousers (I only wear trousers when it is raining!)

I hope your weather is better today Sue. No wonder you have been doing all that house cleaning if it is so bad outside

After yesterday when it was so hot, it was a disappointment to wake up this morning to find it cold and foggy, I was back to jeans and a jumper. I went for a walk into the square this afternoon, I didn't put a coat on, but it was still on the chilly side. All of a sudden the mist lifted and it was really warm again, I was far too hot in my jumper

Hi Sue and Everyone :-)

Just popping in to say I'm glad you're all safe Sue :-)

I was reading about the fatalities in Dungog. Very sad :-(

Hello ladies :-D

Yes the storms have been horrific. We have had flash flooding, power outages and trees crashing into houses. The Hunter Valley region have had the worst of it with lives lost :-( It rained solidly for three days and nights. We were thinking about building an ark. Thankfully we are all fine.

I would love to learn sign language - I must look into it.

Sorry, I wandered off, I got the photo thanks. Esme looked funny last night because she was in her cot on her back,so the hearing aid bit was in the middle of her forehead instead of behind her ear. She tends to roll from one side to the other when she is lying down and as it is quite big, it is uncomfortable if it is behind her ear

I may have told you this, when I worked at Unitech they asked us if we wanted to a short course or was there anything of interest that we would like to do and I opted for sign language. The tutor also taught at the school for the deaf. She was telling us how she was on the bus one day and there were several teenagers talking in sign language about the various passengers. When she got off the bus she signed to them "Hi I am Deirdre and you need to be careful what you sign as some of us can read it and communicate in it.. and laughed" Shocked looks all round. I did two years of it whilst I was there, and was surprised when we started the second year and had a large group of newcomers how much I remembered.

Sue is fine, I was chatting to her on messenger last night. I told her off for ignoring her thread. She stuck her tongue out at me, nothing changes :-|

I saw your graduation pic Persie, you rightly must be very proud. I did level one signing, I passed my exam. I did it because the children from the school for the deaf which was next door to my school used to come to my school for some specialist lessons. I usually had them in my science classes. They did bring their own teacher with them, but I wanted to be able to communicate with them.

Now I am learning again because Esme is learning Makaton which is baby signing. She has mild to moderate hearing loss so she is now sporting a nifty pink headband which has the type of hearing aid on it which conducts the sound through the bone. She had glue ear, so they want to put grommets in, but they will wait until she has to have an anaesthetic for some other reason and do them at the same time

Persie ......... that must have been fascinating!!

Here First Nations tend to drum when any of their own get a degree.

The university is on land that belonged to the local group, and that is always acknowledged now at the start of any ceremony or event on campus.

But it is great when the elders turn up for "their" graduates and drum them in.

Flooding in the Hunter Valley.. showed a house floating away the other night on the TV.

We had lots of hakas, Maori and Island ones at the Post Grad ceremony on Wed. The first one was by a young boy no more than 10 years old, he was down in the stalls in the aisle and we were up in the circle but only two rows back so could see his back view as he was facing the stage.. his voice resonated around the whole of the Town Hall. One Island woman got up when a member of her family got her award and she was along from us in the circle and again her voice carried.. don't need microphones they have some powerful voices.

The most outstanding person was the woman who was doing the sign language, she was fascinating I spent a lot of time watching her and learnt how to sign language waka. It is over 20 years since I learnt it and I really should go back to classes again.

I has better rescue the thread as Sue is not around. It is cold and windy where she is, I am not sure if that is the weather or her state of health :-D
