He does do a good job indeed

Tec was going to try and catch the porter today to see if he could get on line with his tablet, but he obviously hasn't managed it yet

Linda , thank you so much for keeping us informed about Tec . I know I don't come in here as much as I have in the past but not a day goes by that I haven't been thinking about the dear man . It is so good to know that he is inching his way back home :)

I will be glad when this election is over ( which ever way it turns out ) , I'm beginning to feel like a pan of spuds that have been on the boil for to long ! lol

Hello everyone

I had a chat to Tec today. He is happy to be in the local hospital with good food and a sea view.

he is having physio and seems to be doing well, although he is still in a lot of pain, far more than last time. He hopes to be home faster this time as less changes need to be made to the house

Will do, I like watching some of these Ice Truckers etc.. one young chap went out with his father in the big truck for the first time. They all thought that someone had gone awol and left his truck smashed into another one. The 16 year old spotted him dead underneath a vehicle. It was all very sad. But interesting all the same.

Persie .............

yes, we have!!

It's quite the road, long steep sections going up and going down on each side. It is beautiful to drive in summer, with gorgeous mountain views, but it has incredible snow fall from October through April

We've only done it once in mid-winter, coming from the north, and that was because our usual route is down the Fraser Canyon and that road was blocked by 116 avalanches. :-0

Perhaps that gives you a slight idea of the snow conditions :-D

The Coq had been cleared, but snow was falling quite heavily, so it was piling up on the road.

We were on one of the long steep uphill sections doing between 50 and 60 km when an SUV went barrelling past like the proverbial bat out of hell.

We found him about a mile up the road .............. he had obviously skidded, and then spun round, slid over the lane onto the gravel by the side and then onto the grass. He was now facing us as we came up the hill :-D

He was fortunate that the car had not over turned, and was drive-able.

He had just learnt that you need snow tires on those mountain roads :-D

Check that road out if you can find it on you tube ........ that's also quite the road! It has steep drops down to the Fraser River, with very little between the road and going over the edge ........... and that reminds me of some NZ roads

Sylvia have you been up the Coquihalla Highway in snow conditions.. watched a doco on that road the other night and the pile ups and trucks in trouble, some because the drivers had not put the chains on early enough and got a good run up. And I thought it was snowy fun going up Mt Hotham in Victoria.

We have all sorts of shenanigans going on politically. There has been so much mileage on the Prime Minister harassing a waitress by pulling her ponytail every time he goes to a local café.
Then there is all this money being spent on the changing of our flag. Panel of all sorts have to judge the various ideas. Then there will be the cost of the referendum and then there will be the cost of a follow up referendum. And the costs relating to a Maori group, nearly all spent on administration costs over the past year and no one knows what it has achieved and who has benefited apart from those on the payroll.

Some of these arterial routes can take you out of your way. We call them little adventures.

And will until the election is over and then you will have a postmortem on the results. We have a budget coming up and the opposition is going on and on about things that haven't been released yet.

We had intended to find a nice country pub for dinner, but the detour took us through some grotty pit villages, so we settled for a panini at a coffee shop

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 May 2015 23:02

Oh dear :-( I remember being detoured around numerous roads after a visit to Helmsley. A truck had overturned on the main road and it was closed. We loved the scenery but had to be somewhere for a family dinner.

It has been raining and very foggy this morning. We set off about 11am to go north to a designer outlet to buy some new suitcases. Nothing wrong with our old ones really, but they only have two wheels and I want four so I don't have to drag it.

We were almost there when the police closed the Fast dual carriage way because there had been four crashes and almost zero visibility. They just put everyone off at a slip road, but there was no obvious way to go. I knew the area vaguely, so could take a very long detour round, but I felt sorry for all the lorry drivers

Anyway we got there eventually and bought some new cases and a skirt.
