Thank you, Linda!

It is serendipitous that the VE Day celebrations are at the same time as the 71st Anniversary of the relief of the Netherlands by Canadian troops.

There has been a huge link between the Netherlands ever since their Queen took refuge in Canada from the Nazis, and it was only strengthened by the part played by the Canadians.

So this weekend has been big celebrations in the Netherlands, with veterans and politicos going over there.

Happy Mother's Day, Sue xxx

it's Mother's Day here tomorrow ...... so I have a card and a little gift from daughter to open, and she will phone around lunchtime (probably)

There haven't been too many VE celebrations around Canada ....... except in Ottawa. At least, I haven't heard of any.

But looking on the internet at photos of celebrants in London last night did remind me that I can actually remember VE Day ................ I put up a thread on General Chat :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 9 May 2015 23:29

Oh sorry.....of course they are innocent peaceful protestors :-|

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2015 23:13

Happy Mother's Day, I am glad that you had a good time with your girls.

Of course Aimee wants to look her best , she is a beautiful young lady:-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2015 23:11

Shock, you cant say that Sue, they would have been totally innocent protestors.

The policeman they showed on the news injured by missiles obviously picked stones up themselves and hit themselves on the head, just to make the sweet innocent peaceful protesters look bad

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 9 May 2015 23:03

Oh dear....that's sad :-( We had some lowlife 'people' who defaced a local war memorial just before ANZAC Day. A local company who didn't want to be named worked hard under lights to get the disgusting graffiti cleaned off but it's still upsetting that people can do such a thing.

My father was in Palestine just after the war. I read about that campaign - it was dreadful.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2015 22:35

I have been watching the VE day concert from London, thinking of my parents in the war. My father being a prisoner of war for four years and then being subjected to the horrific Lamsdorf death march all to give us our democracy

Then I think of the scum (oops sorry totally innocent peaceful protesters in their balaclavas, hoodies and scarves) who defaced the monument to the women of world war two this afternoon. This would be the protest according to social media which has been subjected to a media blackout, odd that it was reported on the main evening news then.

Sorry, but they and those who stick up for them make me feel so angry.

Hello Linda - I've just told OH and he said 'mmmm......rhubarb and custard'.

It is Mothers' Day here today. Yesterday I went out for a lovely lunch with my daughter and Aimee. Aimee is becoming a little fashionista insisting on a scarf and having her hair curled for the occasion. My daughter drew the line at lipstick :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2015 15:08

Sue tell your OH that I have just been stewing lots of Rhubarb from the allotment, I know it is his favourite

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 May 2015 09:39

I knew it and you tried to pretend they were prescription drugs Persie :-0

When I took the lady to the hospital yesterday, she was going to the Rehab centre. She told me it was physio, but I am not so sure
