Janet - when dementia was taking over my dad's memories I made a "memory" album for him of all the photos of his parents and siblings, aunties etc. He would look through the photos and tell us things we had never known. My brother would quickly scribble down notes because we knew when dad was gone the stories would be gone too. My dad always talked about his family and we always knew our grandparents and great grandparents names including maiden names. It made things easier to get started on the family history. When dad would look through the album he would tell us little things such as his father being known as Charlie not Charles and about going to tea with his maiden aunts - one who was very strict and one who was very gentle and would spoil him with cream cakes and sweets. I actually have a birthday card from these two great aunts who were quite elderly at that time. Apparently they loved having my mother and I around for afternoon tea. I also found out that I knew other relatives that had previously been names on the family tree. Of course I don't remember them - only my grandfathers and my grandmother. |

I don't know for sure Dianne - just a few things he has said. I know he's not what I'd call elderly which to me is 80 onwards. Hope that doesn't offend anyone:-))) |

we had shed loads of rain last night, but it was a lovely day today. OH went down to the allotment to do some digging, he likes digging, he keeps saying that anyway. After I did a bit of housework, I had a walk down and picked yet more sprouts and some leeks. There are also some Chrysanthemum plants which are full of flowers,so I picked a huge arm full and have them in the house and gave some to the neighbour. |
