No need to shout, Janet.....we can hear you:)) Berona when we came over from England in '56 we couldn't go through the Suez because of the "troubles" there - so we came around Cape Horn. Apparently the seas were a bit rough.
Some of Sydney's suburbs have British names - Chipping Norton, Epping, Cheltenham, Liverpool to name a few. Just to make the first Australian settlers feel at home. Of course we also have a lot of places with Australian aboriginal names. Some uniquely Aussie names such as Wagga Wagga, Woy Woy, Joondalup, Wooloomooloo, Woollongabba. Don't you Poms laugh at these names because there's some odd names in Britain - Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter for instance:)

G'day all and S'mae pawb :))
Berona Don't if you read my mail of 0.56 this morning..? If you need any help on graveyards in the area, if that is the type of research you are doing, I still live in the area only 6 miles from where my parents are buried in the local church, and would be more than happy to help. If it's not about genealogy you are researching I know all about Llanelly Parish so just ask :))

Hi Sandie, No, I missed the earlier post. Just read it now. I am not researching in Wales (although I might need to later when doing my OH's tree - his mother was a Lloyd). I am transcribing Index pages for FreeBMD. That's why I'm typing Llanelly - and other places too! I try to pronounce them as I type them but I'm still having trouble getting my tongue behind my teeth and trying to blow at the same time!

Hi Berona,
I am so delighted that you have decided to join us on our cruise - I was beginning to think that you either didn't have your sea legs - or you thought we were all barking mad - and who could blame you? Anyway welcome aboard the Skylark.
What was the name of the ship you travelled to England on - do you remember? if it was a P&O ship then possibly I worked on it, only later, as I first went to sea in 1958. Those were the days!
Sandie.......The sun is shining in the North.......whooppee!
Regards Tec.

Hi Berona,
I should have added that in 1958 I was a mere strip of a lad - 9 stone, with a 24 inch waist - I've grown since lol..........

Hi Sue...........
Yes.........I'm happy in my madness - the only way to survive these days, the rest of the world has gone bananas, so as they say - if you can't beat em - join em!
I'm also considered slightly eccentric by my nearest and dearest - whatever do they mean?

Morning everyone! I'm up earlier to-day. Good evening to all the Brits.
Tec, Glad you saved me a cabin. Is it OK if I bring along a toy-boy? (if I can find one).
Yes, I remember the ships - very well. I went over on the Oronsay, arriving one week before the Coronation. (I wasn't going to admit that - but you asked me, didn't you?). The trip home via Panama and N.Zealand was on the Rangitoto - then from N.Z., on the old Wanganella, which was the way people travelled from NZ to Oz in those days - took 3 - 4 days and 99% of the passengers were sea-sick all the way! Luckily I'd been on the other ship, and had my sea-legs, but even then, I felt queazy on the last lap.

Good Morning Berona,
Of course you may bring a Toy Boy - can't imagine you would have any trouble finding one! Just make sure he's got a few bob in his pocket so that he can spoil you.
I didn't work on the Oronsay, but I remember seeing her many times in Tilbury Docks. The other ships you sailed on sound interesting, that crossing from NZ sounds a bit hairy.
I watched the Coronation on a neighbours TV, as we didn't have one. I was 12 years old - there that's let the cat out of the bag. They'll all be doing their sums now. If I'd known I would live this long I would have taken more care of myself.
Regards Tec.

Good evening/morning all (becoming too many to mention)
Another glorious morning.
Berona, why on earth would you want a toy boy: find a real one.
It's a bit like cars, why have a Toyota when you can have a real Ota.
probably get banned now for advertising.
When we came to Oz in 1982 we had to fly (well not us physically, we came by plane). Our first real introduction to Aussies came when we landed for a couple of hours in Singapore. The plane just filled with them and I have never seen a souped up drinks trolley before!
To Susan and Janet from Perth, special greetings from Bunbury
I'm glad to see from re reading this that my sombre mood of yesterday has passed
Regards to you all

You've got to have dancing girls Allan -- and when we get to Honolulu we'll have dancing girls in grass skirts, they'll even put a garland of smelly flowers around your neck if you're lucky.

Oh my, I hope I've spelled that correctly :))) She would say Clanfair PG, she couldn't get to terms with the double L or the double D, although she is not Welsh speaking her children are. My brother in law still lives there and we spent a week with him just 3 weeks ago. Beautiful area, been there many times before so this time we took the car and then did walks most of the day wherever we stopped. Nite to all the poms and morning to all the Aussies:)) luv Sandie.x
