Tec, That Cistercian Monastry sounds fascinating, I hope the National Trust take good care!!!! Wales sounds like a beautiful place to visit.

Its fairly cold here today, still have very strong winds. September is normally the worst for strong winds. One year we lost our back shed, it blew away and landed in our next door neighbors back yard. We never bothered to replace it !!!

Am I correct with the time diffence between UK and Aus,8 to 10 hours depending where you are,,?`

We have those mushrooms on Hay Bluff ,for anyone that doesn't knows the area,Hay is in Powys, South Wales, don't all rush at once .lol
I used to work for the Social Security and we had mega probs when we had the unemployed youths camping out on the Bluff and claiming Social Security cos they came in their hunderuds
Excuse the spelling it's just I cannot correct it on this lappy, it ismy hubby,s and he doesn,t always appreciate me using it when he's gone to bed,, but my PC is in the bedroom so tough !

As far as time difference goes WA is 8 hrs ahead of GMT and the Eastern States 10 hrs at the moment, but as you are on BST deduct an hour. When your BST ends WA will still be 8hrs ahead but the Eastern States will be 11 because the have Daylight Saving.

Don't even ask about South Australia which is different again!

Good whatever it is to everyone.

Another grey day n our English summer. I remember at the start of summer the weather forecasters were banging on about us having a bbq summer. Well we did for about one week, since then it has been the usual washout.

When I read about you using the aircon because you are cold, it sounds so strange to me. To us Brits aircon is something you find in foreign hotels to keep you cold in hot climes. It is possible to buy portable aircon units here, but not many people have them as we don't have much call to use them.
Our houses are built to keep the heat in, given that it is so cold most of the time, so of course in the odd few weeks when it is warm, it gets to hot inside.

I had a busy day today - a morning meeting and then running around banking, shopping and all those other things we have to do to keep the household up and running. Later this afternoon OH and I played with the Wii sports games. Why? you may ask. Well when the young ones are here they laugh at us and give us constant instructions so we decided to have a go at it ourselves and we had a ball playing 10 pin bowling and table tennis:)) OH has just retired and he's wondering when he got the time to work - he's busier now than he was before he retired.

Linda........ I hope your day improved, it's been a lovely day here, bit of a cool breeze, but pleasant enough. Your Screen Name reminded me to drag a book off the book shelf I've been meaning to read for ages -
" THE BEST OF JAMES HERRIOT" I like to read in bed usually, but this a rather large heavy hardback - all the Herriot books in one, with lots of other relevant articles and photo's, published by Readers Digest. Will take me ages to read.............

SueMaid.....Did you conquer the Wii game? I know exactly what your OH means. Since I retired there are just not enough hours in the day to do all I want to - like renovating this house for a start.
You mentioned a cruise recently - I did the Australia Pacific cruises for years out of Sydney. Down to Hobart, then North and South Island NZ - over to Fiji and Samoa, then Honolulu, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Yokohama, Hong Kong, Manila, and back to Sydney . Quite a bit of time at sea between some ports if you like being at sea.

I'm semi retired after accepting a voluntary redundancy three years ago. I now do a bit of work for a few days a month but this involves travelling and staying away from home for one or two nights, and I'm beginning to question whether it's worth it

Hi Linda, the a/c units us Aussies are talking about are called reverse cycle ie the can be used for either heating or cooling. You can buy units just for cooling: however, do not think that OZ is always sunny and hot. We do get the odd cool day!......-3oC forecast last night for a place 40kms from here called Collie

I have an air condition system which only blows out cool / cold
dry air, so it stops condensation on the windows in the winter and can keep you cool in the summer.I live in South Wales...guess which time of the year it gets used .lol

Goodmorning Aussies and a good evening to our Brit friends.

Linda - we've stayed in a few old B & B's when it's been very warm and of course there's no air con. Even the cars don't have seem to have working air cons - understandable of course.

Tec, we are planning a Pacific Cruise - perhaps only for 10 days. This is our first cruise and because my OH is a "doer" when we travel I'm wondering if he'll enjoy a sit back and relax type of holiday. He is excited at the thought of a cruise but I'm thinking any more than 10 days and he may get bored - not that he'll say anything but we women can always tell:)) I think he like the idea of the on board activities as he didn't realise there would be so much to do.

I used to love the "All Creatures Great and Small" series and I love the
books. Linda lives in - what I think - a most beautiful part of England and not far from where my OH hails from.

Good Morning Allan,
I'm sure I will enjoy James Herriot - my kind of book - I read quite a lot, but not fiction, I like biography's, travel, history. My OH reads thrillers, detective, murder mysteries etc, but I have no interest in that.
I suppose it is difficult having to travel and stay away at times.
When I retired early I bought this house. It's 100 yrs old, and was in quite a state when I bouight it because a very elderly lady had lived here, and nothing was done. Neede re-wiring, plumbing, new heating system, new windows etc. Quite a big house with five bedrooms. Thought it would take me two years to finish - here we are 14 years down the line, still not finished.........oh well, keeps me out of mischief.

I do, South Wales UK, not New South Wales Oz.
It's hardly warm enough here to use the air con in the summer, we use it in the nights in the autumn, winter to stop the condensation on the windows, cos if you dry clothes inside, which we quite often have to the windows are running with water in the mornings.

No apologies required, but as they've been offered have been totally accepted :)) Forgiven ...of course:)

I'm the bane of my OH's life. I'm not practical like she is she is into woodwork and things mechanical. We recently purchased a chain saw so that she could chop down some trees in our garden redesign.

I try to reciprocate by by doing the ironing, some of the cooking and general housework.

We live in a generally topsy-turvy household...It's no wonder the kids moved out, they wanted to experience normality!!

Allan - This house has been topsy turvy since we came here - forgotten what normality is - left it behind in the old house!
I've surprised myself with what I've learnt to do here, case of having to, as we couldn't always afford tradesmen. And I do a lot of the cooking, cleaning, ironing etc. And the shopping!
Think I'll leave home lol
