Good morning Aussies and good evening Brits:))) I'm glad you love this thread Janet - I love it too

Just think Welsh friends. I was so close to you all and yet we didn't know each other then. Next visit we'll arrange a meet - it would be lovely to see you all. Tec it truly is one of the loveliest areas I've seen. $andie it was very warm in Abergavenny but we wandered around the town early in the morning and it was lovely. Some beautiful old buildings and houses. The room we stayed in wasn't very nice but the breakfast the next morning was delicious. The girl who served us was amazed with my Aussie accent and she kept talking to me and ignoring my OH who still has his English accent. She would ask me questions about the TV show "Neighbours" and couldn't believe it when I said I never watch it but watch the English soapies.

The weather here looks miserable today after a few days of glorious sunshine. Hope you all have a wonderful day and you Brits enjoy your evening.

Hi Janet......Hope your boys did well at footie today.

Allan.......Hope you enjoyed that half pint, and have now become accustomed to chilled beer in Aus, the Aussies used to complain that the Brits beer was too warm.

Sandie.....Glad you enjoyed your time in the North - you certainly got around. I will get to Clydach one day.

Sue......It really is a small world isn't it?......We live on opposite sides of the world, yet seem to cross each others paths without knowing it.

As you all know, I had my annual haircut today - no applause necessary - do they still have good old fashioned barbers shops in Aus? or do the Aussie lads have to suffer these infernal new fangled Unisex places?
I would be interested to know.

I have one son who goes to a barber shop and another son who goes to a hairdresser to have his hair "styled". One pays about $15 the other one pays $40 - guess which one pays the most lol. OH has the best deal - he does his own hair as there isn't much of it left:)) I of course go to a ladies salon where I pay an exorbitant price to come out with hair the colour that God most definately did not give me to start with. My 3 year old grandson summed it up one day when I visited the family with my hair freshly done. He touched my hair and said "oooh Grandma's hair......silly Grandma" with much sympathy in his voice. Out of the mouths of babes.....

I never could get used to cold beer. At one place I worked in the bush, we used to have a Friday arvo 'shout'....close the doors early and buy a carton of beer to drink in the office. I was only ever allowed to buy one carton as I left it in the sun to warm up!.After that whenever it wwas my turn to buy, I had to give the money to one of the other guys so that the beer could be correctly stored.

Now I prefer a nice red

Allan...hope the weather does stay dry just for the morning at least ( football game ). Hope can you not like a cold beer...? lol...Nothing better on a hot day.. But I am a red wine drinker !!.. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Sue and Tec... I leave the haircuts for the boys father to organise now...Its just too much hassle they all want different styles of they dont want it cut at all.

I've never been a big beer drinker, even in the UK. I used to make my own, well I still do but my OH drinks it as she is not overly fond of wine

Greetings to all on this overcast Sunday morning! Good evening Brits!

Tec - I, too, have been to Wales in 1989. Staying with S.I.L. in Winsford, we did a one-day trip, taking in Conwy Castle, then later, when we left, we went across and down the west coast and eventually back across to Oxford. Lovely scenery. I had already had a bird's eye view of the country when our plane was coming in to Gatwick. We had come from L.A. and were flying so low for so long, that I felt we saw the whole of Wales - we could almost see the people!

Sorry if my memory is dim. Twenty years! Doesn't seem like that. I THINK we came in to Gatwick and left from Heathrow - but the memory gets out of whack occasionally!

Hairdressing.. a big buisness !
I used to cut and colour my own hair for 30 yrs,it's naturally curly so bad bits never showed up straight away, used to cut it next day when I could see the bad bits and then it was fine,The colouring is a bit diffent now, my eyesight has deteriorted for short sight, so decided to go to the hairdressers.
Costs me £35 every 6-8 weeks,Gosh how much \I saved over those 30 yrs
I used to cut my hubbys hair, but he keeps it very short now and I can't handly the clippers properly.
Son keeps his very short and goes the hairdressers at least every3 to
4 weeks.
Dau keeps her shoulder length and goes regularly,her hair is naturally wavey, but straightens it daily.
when I was a teenager I used to iron the length of my hair straight but left the top of it natural,didnt want to burn my skull.lol.

Do Wales have many old castles? I have always had a fascination with historic old buildings. It must come from my English ancestors?

Good evening Aussies and good morning Brits. What a cold and miserable day - doesn't know whether to rain or not. Just drizzling, dark and cold:( We went to a Travel Expo and came home with a load of booklets and bookings for about 6 holidays - well in bookings in our minds that is. Maybe like Carole - if we win the OzLotto:)) Still it was nice looking and we are hoping to go on a cruise next year so we've got some planning to do.

Hope you all had a good day despite any bad weather - after all it is winter:)) Hope your boy won his footy game, Janet and Carole your daughter enjoyed her horse-riding lesson. $andie hope you didn't have a nasty experience with hair-colouring - bright blue isn't a good look lol.

Well it is summer here, but you wouldn't know it as it is raining again.
I am actually on the go early for a Sunday. When I wake, I go and retrieve the Sunday paper which is delivered and then bring it back to bed with a cup of coffee.Eventually OH will wake up and bring me a bacon sarnie.
Decadent I know to have breakfast in bed, but it is a tradition we carry on from earlier years. OH often worked abroad which left me to look after the children as well as holding down my teaching job (sorry vocation!). So when he was at home, he would always bring me breakfast in bed on a Sunday,so that I could have some time to myself while he dealt with the children. Even though they are grown up and long gone, he still brings me breakfast.

Hello Linda:)) That sounds like a good tradition to me - funny how these things can last for years. I've noticed my daughter does little things with her children that I did with her and her brothers when they were little. Making pikelets when it's cold and wet outside and sitting at the table playing board games while the pikelets disappear at an amazing rate. Enjoy your day Linda:))

It is a dull day here, quite cold for July... threatening some more drizzle, and we have to murder some hollyhocks later :¬((( They are too far gone to save. Oh, and I need some more weedkiller and bug spray for the blackspot on one of our roses... so another shopping trip ;¬))

Other than that, a lazy day... oh has taken a weeks holiday, and we will spend it either in the garden weather permitting, or decorating our bedroom if the weather is too wet... he doesn't know about that bit, lolol It will be a nice surprise for him!

Love it, Sue, sounds like a brilliant idea... only thing is... he hasn't needed to do any before... we lived in married quarters for 34 years... and I did all the decorating here when we moved back into it almost 4 years ago...... I always did it in between tenants as well... he was conveniently away every time playing soldiers, lol.....

Mind you... he isn't doing too badly at the gardening lark... so maybe!!!! ;¬))

G'evening Aussies all and G'day Brits!

I have just prepared a tradional Sunday lunch - podded some peas, sliced some runner beans, scrubbed some baby carrots and scraped some new pots - ALL produce from the allotment. They will be accompanied by Roast Chicken (no..................not one of my grand-chooks or even a close relative of theirs), with Sage and Onion Stuffing (sage from the allotment I might add) and Bread Sauce.

BTW SueMaid I do have a cousin who lives in Australia - on the Gold Coast I think it's called, so I should be considered an honorary Aussie!
