Hi Bob with all the numbers- does your latitude and longitude mean that you are in the middle of the Atlantic somewhere?
I don't know about all these claims to be honorary Aussies. My GF's father came from the U.K. So she could get into the U.K. as an honorary pom, but never did. Stood on her Aussie credentials each time.
Actually, her father came from north of the Tweed, but always cheered for the English team in England/Australia test matches (Rugby League and Union). I think he did it just to stir his daughter. :-)

Good English morning to all.
Sue I was out all day yesterday tending to my mum, but I thought by the time I came back that you would have at least gone back in your tree for another couple of generations.

The sun is shining here, although if yesterday is anything to go by there will be a few torrential downpours.

Hi, Linda. I have been on Ancestry and I cant find the darn woman Ellen Turnbull in the earlier census returns but to be fair I haven't had time to get right into it. I do know Ellen Turnbull/Morris/Nichol died at the age of 83 in 1925. The info you gave me has had me going off on a tangent. Ancestry has loads of births and marriages and is easy to navigate so I've been able to find more and more people. The Stockton burial site has been wonderful. Durham Rd Cemetary is the resting place of at least 22 relatives and also Billingham and Oxbridge Lane. So thank you for that. I have in fact added about 16 people to my tree so far. Not just a pretty face are you? lol

The weather here has turned cold and wet after a few days of lovely warm sunny weather. Knew it wouldn't last:(

I have our grandson here tonight for a sleepover. It's supposed to be a treat for him but we enjoy having him here so much it's more of a treat for us:)) He wanted to bring his toy trains here and because he couldn't find a bag to put them in he went into his little sister's room and took one of her little handbags. No problem with that except we went to do some shopping and he insisted on carrying it into the shops. He got some amused smiles from a few people at the sight of this little boy wearing camouflage trousers and a Thomas the Tank Engine jumper and carrying a pink sequined handbag. Don't you just love 'em:))

Have a lovely day Brits and enjoy your evening Aussies.

Morning everyone.... it is sunny!! I can't quite believe it, and I am saying it quietly... yesterday I did the same and then it clouded over and drizzled all day. It started to chuck it down while I was walking around the prison in Cardiff (long story... 45 years ago there was a lane there which led to where I needed to be... only the prison has built a reception centre thingy there.... how annoying and inconsiderate of them.) So I just looked up at the heavens, and screamed some abuse..... and it stopped, lol.... my coat was/is in hubby's car, I don't do brollies....

I'd have ended up sitting in a posh restaurant dripping wet and bedraggled!! Then, my mum would have fussed over me.... my hair is still short, you see, as soon as my hair is ok, she'll stop fussing... then my dad would have poked fun at me to make me laugh... and my mum would have been cross with him... and there are very sharp steak knives in this place.... I am soooo not ready to be an orphan!!

Now, where was I? Oh yes.... so the sun is shining today...... I do so hope it stays that way.... *blows a little raincloud over in the general direction of Oz*

Love

Hi All

Has been a busy day for a day off. I am having the carpets cleaned tomorrow so I have been sorting out the lounge . Also went looking for a new lounge but not sure of what I want !!
In between that the dryer decided to fall asleep, so have had to call repair man to come and collect ( not cheap are they?).
Exhausted now so going to bed with a good book and a yummy warm milk milo.

Hope you all had a great day and have a wonderful night...sleep well..

Good morning Aussies - I hope you're waking up to a lovely day. Blue skies here at the moment. Good evening Brits - I hope your day has been great.

I plan on a crafts morning with our grandson. A few birthdays coming up so we'll make some cards. He loves stickers and such so he really enjoys an hour or so playing with card and other bits and pieces. He's not 5 yet but can already write his name so his cards now have his signature:))

It's building up to a busy weekend which is good but I've got a few leads to follow in my family tree. As well as Linda knocking down a brick wall for me I've just had contact with someone who shares a branch of my mother's family. He has opened his tree for me and I had a quick look and there's my 4x great grandmothers maiden name and then another look gave me her parents who just happened to have 5 x great grandfather's mother living with them on the 1841 census. I'm so pleased with this info. but I'm even more pleased that I can also fill in a few of his gaps with marriages he didn"t know about. Great when this happens isn't it?

Good whatever time of day it is, to you all

Finally forecasting a week of fine weather, so i can now get back to digging up the back lawn. We are remodelling the back garden (I still can't get used to calling it a yard). As the grass was looking very daggy no matter how much water and fertiliser we used we dcided it had to go

You are certainly having a good genealogy week Sue, I wish someone could knock a few of my brick walls down as well. maybe that is why I enjoy helping other people, so that I can avoid doing my own.

My daughter just phoned, she is on holiday in Spain with her boyfriend. he arranged a boat trip to a remote headland where a table and chairs had been set up, complete with a chef to cook them a meal. He then proposed and she accepted. So romantic, only marred by the fact that she was so seasick in the boat going over that she threw up when they got there.

Hi Linda,

Your daughter was probably making more room for the romantic meal: lol

In any event....Congratulations

It has been a good week for my family tree, Linda. This contact came through on Hot Matches. The last hot match was great as the person who contacted me gave me access to her tree on Ancestry. I didn't look for awhile but when I did I got the shock of my life. She had photos of ancestors, their gravestones, documents, naval documents, stories etc. She was so generous she has allowed me to copy everything including photos. I only had the info. from my branch of the family to offer but she was pleased because the two branches had gone off in such different directions so she didn't know much about them. My brother was over the moon because he's a WW1 buff and we found out one of our ancestors had a really illustrious career with the Navy submarines. He's mentioned in several books so it's quite exciting.

I can't imagine you having brick walls, Linda. You give so much help to others I thought your tree would be easy:)) Some families in my tree have been easy others have been so frustrating. I guess most family historians find this.

Sorry Allan - I'm ignoring you. Good morning:)) I hope the weather forecast is right and you get plenty of gardening done. We had a new verandah built on the front of our house last year and have just completed the new garden. We put in native plants in keeping with the bush behind our house and the style of the verandah. It's looking good but I'm looking forward to spring when the shrubs will really take off. The grevilleas are in bloom at the moment so the garden's looking colourful

Linda how lovely for your daughter. Was she expecting it? Never mind the sea sickness - that will all be forgotten or it will make a funny story to tell the grandkids:)) Now you'll be planning what to wear. Will we all be invited?

Good evening to all my Aussie friends and good morning to all our Pommie friends - hope you have a lovely day:))

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Jul 2009 09:31

Of course you are invited Sue, (thinks, oh dear how much is this going to cost) She wasn't expecting it,so it would have a shock for her.

I don't know when they plan to marry, but I don't do hats!

I certainly do have brick walls on my tree, some lines seem more special than others, I suppose the direct line back through the male line for my maiden name is one of those. That comes to a shuddering halt with one Alexander Jackson who was born c1800, on the sea. Or that is what he says on two censuses,on the other he says Ireland. So how do you trace someone who appears to have been born on a boat on the way over from Ireland and who only reappears in England when he marries. Being before 1837 there are no parents on the parish record and the witnesses are the church wardens.

SueMaid Report 24 Jul 2009 10:34

I have that problem with an Alexander too:) My Alexander Calvert was born anywhere from 1846 onwards. He was born in Barnard Castle in 1854 or Morley and born in 1850/51. There is one in Arkengarthdale and a contact who is a cousin said her gran always remembered that her father - Alexander - said they came from that area. He died in 1907 age 61 so that means he may have been born in 1846 but the family may not have known exactly how old he was. On his marriage certificate his father is down as James Calvert. The one in Arkengarthdale has a father called Thomas. On Ancestry there is a baptism entry for Alexander Calvert with James as his father and - if I ask really really nicely - would you have a look for me if you get a moment. I'm really asking a lot of you but I would appreciate it. If it's the right one then I'll pay your airfare to Australia for a summer holiday:))

Ah Bob - grovelling is good:)) The problem, as always with the internet, is the lack of facial expressions and body language so sometimes we get a little touchy when we read into a post something which isn't there.

Nice to see you again, Carole. This family research business can be so frustrating at times but when it all comes together it's very exciting. I don't think I could have done as well without Ancestry.

I would love to have Daphne in my garden but I don't think it's the right climate. Enjoy the perfume, Carole. Hope to see you on here again soon.
