You are so right, Allan. That's what it's all about - people who have no idea of the needs of patients and their families. The Cancer Council are in the business of money making but in our local office they have 10 paid people. These people work very hard and I would never take that away from them but I'm sure people would not support us if they thought our money would go to paying wages. Our organisation doesn't just raise money for equipment we also work with patients on the ward and in the treatment centre hopefully making their lives a little easier. They don't pay my fee for training new volunteers - the area health service do. The Cancer Council have no direct contact with patients.

Sue, I can imagine they would just like the money handed over, but in my experience fundraisers like to "see" something tangible for their efforts.
That is a huge amount of money raised, and must involve a great deal of time and effort.
Do you get much moral support from your committee, or is it a one man band doing all the fighting at the top, as is so often the case.

Well, I'm here at last. I have been here for a while, but it seems to take longer and longer each day to read to-day's posts and know what we are all up to! Good night to those leaving us and good morning to those who are all bright and bushy tailed.????

Joy - just one thing if you decide to join the staff at Tec's stately home. Hold out for your own room. He tries to economise by wanting me to share with the upstairs maid (the one with the hairy legs) but as his Official Advisor, I insist on my own apartment. Share indeed!!! Hrmfff!!!

As for that maid - Allan, I'm disappointed that you don't want me to knit you a beanie to cover your head under your hat. I have some lovely wool pieces in beautiful colours - purple, organge, emerald green, canary yellow, midnight blue and of course, black - and I've been working out a lovely combination of stripes - and you don't want it!...I'm sad.

Sue - take care and get back into top condition quickly. Linda can't help wondering how things are going for you - and Diane, hope you can work things out with your daughter and get back to normal quickly.
Carole - I fully understand you not being interested in riding horses again in a hurry. My incident happened a long long time ago - and I can still remember it - even though certain people here might be using it as a reason for my current mental state! I think it was the other end of me which suffered most - and of course, the indignity!

Sue, your organisation sounds very similar to one in the UK. I can't recall the name of it now, but when my mother had cancer volunteers visited her and my dad at home.

They provided moral support, helped my dad with cleaning etc and always ensured that there was fresh food in the fridge (In those days my dad was not very domesticated and I lived a fair distance away).

The people who provided the service were like angels

Good morning, Berona. Feeling a little better today - just a little lacking in energy. That Allan is an ungrateful devil isn't he? Fancy not wanting a beautiful multi-coloured striped beanie.

Tec - I have full support of my most of my committee. Committees always have one or two apathetic members and we have our share but on the whole they are very committed to what we do. We have 250 members but not all are active. When we do our market stalls and sausage sizzles we always have plenty of workers.

Edit - oh I see Allan has changed his mind about the beanie. You don't want much do you Allan:-))

That's nice of you Allan. You've made my day. I'll see what I can do.

It's nice to know I'm appreciated.

Editted to say - 'even if my choice of beautiful colours are not!'.

Allan, They sound very like the McMillan Nurses that we have here, they visit people in their homes, and are fantastic with cancer patients and their families.

Good Morning Berona,
If you have any wool over, after Allan's hat, that will be of considerable proportions - I wonder, could you knit me a night cap, preferably with a bobble on it. Sober colours please, don't want to startle the maid in the morning when she arrives with the jug and bowl for my wash.

Sue, I could write a book about committees, sometimes frustrating, sometimes hilarious, always interesting.
That is a vast number of members you have.
