Only just found this thread. But have read all 17 pages (makes me a glutton for punishment).
My apologies on behalf of the male gender. We are not all like that PIA.
Poor SueMaid, a possibly lonely Aussie who wondered where all the others on this board lived. Well Sue, I am in Sydney (between the city and Parramatta).
My earliest ancestors were on the 2nd fleet so my first currency lad was 1794. My beloved is first gen Australian born on her father's side, although her mother came from the usual mixed British stock probably including some convict.
One of my first arrivals was one of those failures. Transported for theft (he claimed, his own belongings), he became chief constable of the Hawkesbury for a while.
My father always said his ancestors were transported by the best judges in England, but that is not quite right. His "name" ancestor was convicted in Roscommon, IRL. Still, his crime was an act of Irish patriotism, so he may have been transported by the finest English judge. And he ended up a farmer near Pitt Town.

It was a pleasant 21 here in Sydney while the sun was out - but 5degrees earlier - when Allan goes for his walk. He IS nuts!

Overnight temps have been 4 and 5 for the last few days - so it's warm jamies and bedsocks for most of us - and only silly ex-Brits go for walks at 3am. Very wise lady, your OH is, Allan.

Hello Colin and welcome to the Aussie thread. You're not far from me - I'm in the Illawarra. Please don't apologise for the dreadful person who tried to spoil this thread on the weekend. We are all aware that he doesn't represent the male gender. You have some interesting stories regarding your ancestors.

Hi, Berona and Janet - how lovely to see you both. Allan must have gone to bed early so he's bright eyed and bushy tailed for his early morning walk. Must be a lonely walk as I can't imagine Allan would meet up with too many people along the way:))

I'm having an early night tonight - tomorrow I have a meeting to chair and I think it's going to be a long one. Sleep tight.

Good morning my Aussie pals and those who would like to be:)) Shaping up to be another warm winter's day. I have a busy day ahead of me so won't be spending too much time on here so hopefully will catch up with you this evening.

Have a great day today and you Brits have a lovely evening:))

I will have you know SueMaid that I am not a BRIT...I am English ( I think ) with a smattering of Irish and Scots..and if I really must admit it....a tiny bit of Welsh......And it depends on which part of me you annoy whether I spit feathers or not.......:-))))))))) work that one out :-)))))))

Good morning/evening all.

Welcome to the thread Colin.

I wouldn't describemy OH as a wise lady, Berona, after all she did marry me...!! lol

I'm afraid that my walking patterns have been badly hampered by the weather. Yesterday 13oC and in last night's forecast, advice of winds up to 120km/pr hr and keep clear of windows.

Slighly better than Sunday nights forecast on a commercial TV channel of rain goig to be 'bucketing' down. I just lost when I heard that...had to change into dry underwear

Berona Report 21 Jul 2009 02:18

Allan, your OH is wise enough to recognise that you are nuts going for 3am walks! If you are feeling the winds, maybe you are getting aclimatised! It took my OH years to get used to our weather. He did a lot of walking the dog, but never at 3am!

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier Colin. Welcome to the boards. You're not far from me. I'm on the other side of Parramatta. My ancestors vary in times of arrival from a Redcoat, who married an Irish immigrant in Parramatta, another branch in 1837 and more in 1857 and the last lot in 1879 but all originating from various parts of the UK with a little bit of Scot and Irish in there too. My OH was born and raised in Liverpool, Lancs. so my kids are a little more than 50% Pom. Don't know why they won't admit it though!

p.s. forgot to mention that a gr/gr/uncle did seven years in Tassie after helping himself to a brass tap. Gotta be proud of that!

Allan

Allan Report 21 Jul 2009 02:29

Hi Berona,

My kids would never admit to being pommies either.

When my son was younger and we first arrived in Australia he would speak with a broad northern accent at home. When with his Aussie mates he spoke with a broad Aussie accent. Now 33, he has a middle of the road twang

Just a quick word during a late lunch break. Sue, I know part of the beautiful Illawarra. An aunt and her family lived near Warilla for many years. My grandmother in the same area about 1960-1980 and I visited her regularly.
The view from the top of the escarpment is one of the prettiest in NSW. My grandmother, oddly, was also impressed by the big stack at Port Kembla, and later the Tallawarra power station at night when I admit it did look rather like an ocean liner across the lake.
Berona, although I actually grew up on the northern beaches which were rather isolated in those days, without a car, my father's family have roots in the Hawkesbury back to 1794 and I am rather proud of that. Colin

SueMaid Report 21 Jul 2009 06:27

Hello, Colin glad to see you pop in. We live just over the hill from the power station and we have family in Warilla. Yes the view coming down the escarpment is wonderful and when you've been away it truly means you're home when it comes into sight.

Alison nice to see you - we are having a lovely sunny day here although I've been inside most of the day:(

Berona how are you? You must be also having this glorious weather - it's not going to last unfortunately according to the weather forecast.

$andie why are you deleting your posts? You know you're welcome on here. I was only joking with Susanwithnumbers and she knows that. I like people who spit feathers:)) If it's because of the nasty person who was posting over the weekend you shouldn't let him worry you. We haven't.

I have been woken up by some very annoying people starting up their cars to go to work. Some people have no consideration for ladies of leisure.
