Well, it looks like the Blarney Stone is doing the rounds!

Berona, I see all the women on this thread as matriarchs, very wise people who smile indulgently whilst Tec and myself go off at a tangent, and yet with a gentle cuff around our ears can eventually return us to the subject in hand. You each offer words of wisdom and advice, never criticise, and all in all are extremely human.

I gave up trying to physically imagine what a person may look like a long time ago. It's a bit like trying to form an impression of a person on the other end of the phone

And at the end of the day, does it really matter? I think that a person's humanity comes from within, not in physical appearances.

And that is about as earnest as I will become on this thread!!

Gee,

I hope that I wasn't TOO earnest...I seem to have frightened every one away!!

Wise words Mr Allan Sir -

People are like books, you certainly can't judge by the cover.
I have met people from right across the social spectrum, from Dukes to vagrants, and everything in between.
Appearence is often deceptive, and I've had a few surprises in my life.
We are fortunate that everyone on this thread has a good sense of humour, must have to put up with us. They may see us as insane, but what does it matter - I would rather be considered insane than miserable.

Just thought, if everyone is over here working in the big house, It's going to cost me a fortune flying them all back again for the cruise?

Good Morning..and Morning again to the brits..

Firstly have to put right my post from before about my OH having his heart attack ...He is well and now and was off work for about 6 months. He now monitors his cho0lestrol and blood pressure regularly. This did happen about ten years ago and has since been fine. I did have a lovely pm from someone that did mention to me the fact that they were unsure as to how to chat to me about this so I thought the need to put up this post.

I would nt even begin to try and work out people physically. I have been to a few meets and had the shock of my life when meeting someone and have had a mental picture of what they would look like. Have to add both physically and their personality.

I think that you are all lovely people and all have qualities that make you the person that you are. Lovely to read your thoughts and day to day activities although i am not on here as much as I would like to be.!!

Have a great day Aussies !! Sleep well Brits..!!

Right here goes with a few other observations.

Janet and Carole - fun people both devoted to their children and getting the most out of their childhood years. You'll reap the rewards when they are adults. Busy, hardworking and appearing to love every minute of it.

Alison I know you are having a battle at the moment but you've kept your humour. You are brave but not afraid to say you are having a bad time. You too are a devoted mother - your boy is very lucky.

Persey - I think you are probably quite wicked:-)) I find you interesting, smart and funny.

AlisoninOz - we don't see you often enough but when we do you always entertain us. You must visit more often.

I wouldn't even begin to guess what everyone looks like but as Allan has said does it really matter?

From down here in the South East, where the birds tend to fly to in the winter. Our birds don't go anywhere as you know they don't fly. Well the Kereru and Tui do but they stay here, in the Totara and Puriri Trees.

Tec: when I lived on the North Shore, at the end of each month the military helicopters would come out in force about 8 to 10 of them. We reckoned they were using up their
monthly petrol rations - as they just flittered around doing nothing. As you probably know we don't have much in the way of military planes - Probably as they say we could not fight our way out of a paper bag. Dunedin has this very impressive gun that can pop up out of the ground -still in working order - it was ‘us’ being prepared for the Russian Invasion that did not happen. Sometime ago in the seventies they were going to do away with it. I wish people would stop trying to mess with history - it is an historic site and when you go to the Albatross Sanctuary (I believe we are the only place in the World that has one of those) you can visit the gun site as well.

So many times buildings etc get pulled down to make way for progress. My Aunt before she died made me promise to protest if they ever tried to knock down our Civic Theatre. It was built in 1929 and it is an atmospheric cinema the interiors have an Indian and Persian theme. When my mother was young there was a dance floor shaped like a boat, where they entertained the troops. My Uncle worked as a plasterer on it, above the stage is a globe and all the workers put a half-penny in it. When I was young a wurlitzer used to rise out of the base and a bloke would play it before we watched the films. In those days they played God Save the Queen before the movie and we would all dutifully stand up.

I think the people that have seen the most changes over the years are all passing away now. My dad got to see Halleys Comet twice and not many did that. He used to ride his horse and cart up the street where I now live.

Allan – have been looking at your Mortimer history on the other thread and now I see where you get it from. You have comedians in your Ancestry. I also liked what your daughter gave you for your birthday what a thoughtful present. My Dad was born in Western Australia – Midland Junction. He came to NZ when he was eighteen months old (sorry to have to say this but he hated having his birthplace on his passport – he was very much a kiwi) along with his two sisters born in Perth and his parents. His father was born in NZ and his mother from Scotland – and they met in Oz.

Geez I did this on Word and thought must've exceeded 5000 but there is still heaps of room to go on and on and on.

Cheers

Persephone

Sue, thank you for wanting to be my friend. I have said it before and happy to say it again, that I have considered you to be my friend. You seem to be very compassionate, organised, energetic, loyal and giving of yourself - and many other things which I like to see in people - as well as having a sense of humour - (a must for this board!).

Matriarchs? I suppose we might be, but the term conjours up visions of Queen Victoria - and I'm nothing like she was - except, perhaps, when I'm 'not amused' by people who try to cause problems on the chat boards!

Tec - don't worry about the cost of flying us all back and forth - when you win the big one, you'll be able to afford your own plane! Allan can keep us amused during the flight - so brush up on your jokes Allan and be ready!!

Sue...You have me down to a tee pretty much, I am trying to forge a very good relationship where my children are concerned. I feel that we are much closer than I was with my mother, she is not one to show open affection but I know she loves me unconditionally. Hard working most of the time, but I can get quite carried away when for instance the family tree, or a book that I really must finish. So I can be quite a time waster, if you understand what I mean???

I find you Sue, very caring, intelligent, if you have made a good friend you are friends for life, you stick by your mates, never abandon them in their need, you have a very kind heart, you really care for those around you, you love to read, are family orientated and love a challenge. A must for everyone in life is a good sense of humor, tick that box too.
I admire what you do in your work, too.

I have a night driving lesson for my son, so must go.

Have a great night/day all :-))

Thank you for your kind words, Berona and Carole. We're becoming a mutual admiration society:-))

I think I may be a matriarch but not in the stern, unforgiving and controlling way. Like you Carole I have always felt the need to have a good strong relationship with my family. My mum who loves us all very much was never affectionate nor did I ever feel I could confide in her. Still can't because if it's likely to upset her she just blocks it out. Since my father passed away I've made an effort to tell her I love her - something I can do easily with my own family but always felt uncomfortable saying to my mum. Mmmm....too serious for a Saturday night:-))

I have a sick little grand-daughter. My daughter worked today and the children's father had them for part of the day. However, our little girl was ill through the night so it was easier for me to bring her home with me. She was so lacking in energy that all she could do was lie on the lounge, watch the Wiggles and sing along to the songs. By the afternoon she had already picked up enough to eat some dry crackers. Isn't it awful when the little ones aren't well?

Tomorrow I'm setting up another market stall at yet another Spring Festival. I won't be staying long but will probably miss you all in the morning. Have a great Sunday Aussies and enjoy your weekend Poms.

Thanks for those kind words SueMaid, you are a very kind and compassionate person and you have the Aussie mateship in abundance.

I've had a week off - due to our modem having a conniption (spelling?) We finally got a new one Friday afternoon. Took me ages to catch up on the latest goings-on.

I was reading the section on favourite foods and thought I would add mine - it's Shepherd's Pie (the recipe says "first, peel 2 shepherds)!!!!!

Hope our Aussies, Brits and Kiwis are all going ok and that unwell loved ones are on the improve.

Hooroo.

Good evening/morning all

Hi Alison, nice to see you on here again.

Berona, Sue, I used the term Matriarch in it's widest possible interpretation, not implying age, but implying, wisdom, compassion and all that goes with motherhood and being head of the household.

I would never class anyone on here as being 'Victorian' ( unless, of course, they live in Victoria) although I have a sneaking suspicion that even ladies from that age would have displayed the same feelings that you all do...a true sisterhood!

Carole, I hope that your son's driving went well

Persephone, my daughter is indeed thoughtful but she thinks that she is a changeling...she hates to admit that she is so much like myself in personality and is still waitng for her real father to collect her!

Hi all, goodevening/ goodmorning

just read through the latest post and enjoyed how we all think so highly of each other, there is nothing I could add only that I agree with what has been said already, this is one of the friendliest thread's there is and I am so glad to be part of it.

Tec, when do we all take up our position's at the mansion, as I need to give my notice in with my present job, though I have to say my employer will not be too pleased about me leaving.

It will probably be a while before anyone is around so I will come back later,
