Goodnight, Linda.

Allan we have also been through a divorce with our daughter. We can't turn our backs on our children because they're adults. Especially when, in our case, there are children. My SIL left when the twins were 10 months old and the older one nearly 3. It was a gruelling time and my daughter was devastated but we've come through it and the children's happiness and well-being are a credit to her. She's a wonderful mother.

Allan sorry meant to say that I'd seen your thread. Mr Mortimer is a mystery. I must admit I got lost in the replies to your original post. I'll see what I can find after the weekend. If I can't find anything see what Linda can suggest. She is great at research and has put one mystery to rest for me and also gave me ideas that led to me solving another mystery.

Diane.........

As others have said, we never stop worrying about our kids.
I am the eldest of five. My mother died four years ago, aged 85 yrs. The youngest of her children was 58, the eldest was me, then 64.
The day before she died, she said to me "Will you keep an eye on the kids"
She worried about us all right to the end.
And for the record - dads worry too.

Actually Tec - dads sometimes worry more than mums. They do so in silence a lot of the time while reassuring everyone else. It's broken my husband's heart to see what his daughter has gone through. He stayed very strong for her and also supported me through it but it was very hard for him. He refuses to speak to our ex SIL on the odd occasion we see him. He is such a family man and can't understand a man who doesn't want much to do with his lovely children. He adores his grandkids and has done everything he can to make things easier for them.

Come on Tec. You don't get out of it that easily. Where's MY description?

Morning/Evening all. I seem to be late coming onto the boards, but I've been busy catching up on the posts - and that's only this thread! Haven't got to the others yet.

Are we the most easterly members, Sue? I thought we had someone from Kiwiland - but that's my bad memory. There you go Tec - something to use about me - you don't get away with saying that I wear spectables - at my age? who would have thought?

Allan

Allan Report 11 Sep 2009 23:08

Thanks, Sue,

Basically, no one can find him!

Yet I have copies of photos of him including one that shows my g/m, father and aunt if front of a house with my grandfather's name actually painted on the brickwork!

I'll have to try some trade journals to see if I can get any further leads

He sounds like a very interesting man, Allan. I thought JaneyCanuck did very well with her theories but having said that she is sometimes a bit wordy and I got lost a couple of times.

You are so right about that Sue, my daughter is fortunate in her life, but I still worry about certain aspects. I don't say much to anyone, but I do think a lot. I think most men are like that, especially dads.
I can quite understand your OHs attitude, I would be exactly the same in similar circumstances. Some things are so hard to understand.

Diane, I hope that the problem is resolved in a positive way and in a very short space of time.

Problems always seem huge when you are tired and can't think well.

Sue I never knew my grandfather as he died in 1930 but my grandmother was a very elegant old lady. She had been in service when she was a young lady (that's probably where I got my hankering for the maid's uniform from)

She survived two terrible car smashes when she was older, the second of which left her in callipers. When she came to stay with us I remember my dad having to carry her upstairs as there was no room downstairs which could be used as a bedroom

Good Morning Berona,

Suffice to say, that you are the most delightful, and interesting lady, and always such a pleasure to talk to. Your humour sparkles through the thread. I know I could talk to you for hours. Further description is not necessary.

Yes, I suppose NZ is further East than OZ. sILLY ME.

Tecwyn Report 11 Sep 2009 23:39

Oh Diane........

I wish I hadn't started this.

Well, I see you as fair haired, cut in a bob. You are probably about five foot four - I know you do a heavy job lifting in your work so you must be fit, apart from your struggle with that condition - forgotten what it's called.
I see you as a busy lady, and obviously, a caring lady.
There you have it.

Well, Tec and Diane we are always here to "listen" should you feel the need.

I think Berona is a person I would very much like to call a friend - intelligent and humorous.

Tec, you seem to me to be a kind, thoughtful person - very interesting and witty. It would be a great pleasure to meet you one day.

Allan you make me laugh and that is such a talent. I always leave the thread with a smile on my face when I "spoken" to you.

Diane, you come across as a sensitive and very caring person and it's a pleasure speaking to you on here. You work so hard at a very demanding job and you don't complain.

Linda brings a dose of "down to earth" on here. Humorous, straight talking and obviously very caring.

Colin is serious, intelligent, very interesting and so courteous as are all our fellows. Obviously knows what he's talking about and I really enjoy his posts.

I have to go now as I'm babysitting for a couple of hours but I'll give my "take" on our other friends later.
