Oh and BTW ,my 7yr old grandson has just decided to collect stamps,I have been asked by him to get letters sent to him or me from as many countries as poss to start his collection. As im always talking to people on the internet he says I must know loads of nice people. I told him they only say they are nice, and he says they must be nice to talk to his grannyviv. Clip round ear for cheeky monkey. PMs welcome from you lot for addy. I have also been asked to buy the album to put them in and a replacement piggybank as he dropped his the other day. I told him that with all that expense he was getting it empty! Well I did buy the last piggy bank, and it came with a starter pack.

Hello ladies and girls, no win at bingo again, but lots of fun had. Kristie, unfortunately Caroline is not coming up on the tassie bmd and census records here are almost non existent. The shipping records also show only Mr/miss etc, so can't work out who's who. HOWEVER Kerri on this site is a marvel at sa records!! FT :)

Viv - my dad has some stories from Wales too. it seems all you miscrients (cant spell that) get up to mischief in Wales.
the other thing Viv that might help with your search for the dubchek's is a copy of the Jewish Year Book - its published every year and has contact details for embassies and Jewish genealogists. just a thought. i did have one from a couple of years ago but not sure where it is now - sorry.

Thank you Kirstie. Many a happy hour whiled away whilst "mitchin"from school, by aberystwyth castle grounds. And on constitution hill. We always had to make it back to Aberaeron for the school bus though as it was a ruddy long 10 mile walk home otherwise, and the parents would have found out. The friend that has the dubchek in laws and I were terrors when we were together. Oh, the stories I could tell of what we got up to,but I would prob be banned for life if I told them on here!

yes - it does seem that scrooges are meant to be with other scrooges.
damn thats unfortunate!
although on the other side of mine i have a barrister who gambled all the family money away and thats why Castle Hill in Aberystwyth didn't get passed on down to us and he had married a lord's daughter so think how much money he must have gotten through to be passed over for the family estate.
anyway am just going to sit down to dessert so will look later at dub/dubchek (any relation to Alexander?) - which i believe is a fairly common name - i am actually surprised though that it wasn't changed anymore dramaticly than that. ours was changed from something completely unpronounceable to Barnett - how much more anglo can you get?!?!

Dubchek?changed to Dub on coming to GB in 1934ish And all family left over there didnt survive, as far as Hanne knew anyway. Poor devils had even worse luck, they came here to escape on seeing the direction things were going and then my friends mother in laws{hanne} younger sister {martha}got hit by a bus riding her bike, and didnt survive.
Funny really cos the other side of my friends hubbys ancestry is nearly all scottish ,with a little Irish thrown in,and VERY wealthy once upon a time too. And wasnt it you that went chasing scots ancestors?
Mind you my friends hubby def comes from good jewish and scottish stock,on the "careful with money"stakes, he could put even Thomas to shame! DING DONG.

Viv firstly there is nothing in your story in the least bit offensive. secondly i'm having enough trouble with my own Jewish line - i have come to a standstill/ hit a brick wall - bloody name changing! i guess you can understand it though with a maniac out there culling your friends and family. i can attempt to help but i'm not sure it would do your friend any good. however Viv i'd like to point out that my being Jewish is not something you've only just found out! even dear old Thomas commented on it! DING DONG
so in summary Viv - good luck - make sure the net is wide for those name changes. the jewish add ons for ancestry have helped a little so maybe get them up on the home page and of course you can always ask - i don't know how well i'll be able to help but i can try.
FT - question i forgot to ask - when they lived in Hobart did Henrys sister Caroline live with them? was she with them when they moved from Tas to SA? cause i know she lived next door to them in SA. cheers

Sylvia. To add to Kirsties tip Baby wipes ,baby wipes and more baby wipes Wipe down as far as possible, then up as far as possible ,and dont forget possible! My maternal grans saying on a strip wash, but still useable even with baby wipes.
Interesting what one can find out about people on other threads Kirstie,we really are a mixed bag of race ,religion and ages on here. I was christened c of e and brought up chapel (well it was nearest to our farm}and now of no religion. I think its brill as I was brought up to accept all and sundry as they are and my grandad was an athiest??(cant spell that,)racist whos best friend was an ,african catholic priest! They spent all their spare money on gambling ,cards ,women and wine so mother tells me.
So would you be able to help my friend out on her hubbys chekoslavakian jewish side or any pointers where to look please Kirstie. Hope I havent offended anyone with my little tale,I havent meant to. viv

yes i knew Henry was a Captain - The hero is mentioned in the obituary.
well thats kind of why i asked cause they went to SA but James isn't mentioned except the possiblity he was the first shop owner in Port Broughton (town founded by the Captain) but it doesn't state his name and he isn't mentioned again, i'm not sure hes even mentioned in the inquest report into his mother suicide. so really i was just curious as to where he had disappeared to cause his middle name was used in his half nephews name - so he must have kept in touch but no one mentioned him not even in the written histories.
curiosity often gets the better of me i'm afraid. thanks for looking FT, much obliged. so you had to have two washes then FT - so your extra clean now.
sylvia - take along an empty bath oil bottle - fill with water and pour over hair while leaning over bath or sink, repeat as necessary - should do the trick.

No, but I didn't feel completely clean!!
Now Kristie, did you know that henry dale was the Captain of the Brigadier "Hero"? The family appear to have left lonny for SA (adelaide) in 1851, after James was born, however I can't find them coming back. So, I would ask Kerri (on this site) to run a check of sa records for james dunbar. The only one I believe may be him is the 1886 birth of a Frank Dale to James Dale and Ellen Dart. There is no marriage to be found between them, however frank was b in lonny, as was james, and the dates fit. The only other james dale in lonny is 25 years younger.

but did the shower turn you black?????
daughter emailed me earlier saying did we think we would really want a shower on Friday morning ..... if so we would have to do a "shower run" to their former house! They had to have the tiling re-done in the bathroom in the new house but ran into problems so it still isn't finished ............... apparently it will be finished tomorrow, but then it needs about 24 hours to dry or set or something.
My answer .............................. I'm not that dirty!!!
I haven't yet told her that we have 6 days on the train, and I've had experience of the showers on the train. I'm trying to work out how to do "strip" or "sponge" bath and still get my hair clean rather than repeat the experience!
